Veteran badges and Freedom
Better save those Paragon Points if you're missing any VR badges, because it doesn't look like they'll be obtainable just by keeping an active account anymore.

You just might be able to turbocharge your Vet progress with Paragon Rewards.
Please say that's the case, redname.

Yes they will.

Also I hope these Paragon Rewards can be used for things like missing anniversary badges.

And it kinda goes without saying that I'd like to get that same badge on my badge villain.

Current players of City of Heroes® have enjoyed the Veteran Rewards program for years. Under that program, players received new bonuses for every three months they subscribed to the game. With the launch of City of Heroes Freedom™, Paragon Rewards--a superior rewards program in every way-- will replace the Veteran Rewards program.
Paragon Rewards gives you credit for every single month you are a VIP player, not every three. In addition, purchasing Paragon Points for use in the Paragon Market will improve your Paragon Rewards standing. You'll be able to select from all the rewards that you to could find in the Veteran Rewards in the Paragon Rewards program and new rewards exclusive to the Paragon Rewards program, as well! In addition, you can choose which rewards you receive every time you earn a new one.
Looks to me like points are only about in-store item purchases, and a separate rewards currency applies to subscribed time. I guess using the store bumps your rewards up as well.
I hope they stop the badges and just use this reward system from now on. Allow players to earn the vet badges up to the cutoff, but don't add any new ones after the cutoff point.

Firstly the Vet badges:
I agree with just stopping the issue of new Vet badges (ie halting it at whatever badge is in force at the change over day).
It would formally mark the end of one era and the start of the new. It would act as a reminder of our loyalty to the original CoH.
It would mean I would be forever 14 badges behind, but that is a proper record of my time with the original game.
Let this happen for all existing Vet badge holders on the "Going Live" day and then no awards to new alts of any class and yes I do mean that if I roll a new alt in the Freedom game it would have no Vet badges. New game, new rules!
Secondly the rewards:
I do hope that the rewards that are in place now for all the Vet badges are made available (along with any new stuff) for purchase with our new merits (or what ever it is we are getting as money) and are available to all the player base independant of what Vet badges we hold.
lastly I really hope that there will be no method whatsover to "purchase" any additional Vet badges. (or any Anniversary badges as well)
That would just totally devalue any intrinsic value/status the badges have/had in the old game. Might as well just sell a "Badge Pack" available from day one! Pointless

The VR system is changing there is no doubt of that but, as I recall the vet badges were giving out first then the Vet rewards came into play later did they not? I see no reason to stop giving out the badges as a progress meter of time played. As for being able to buy the Anniversary badges, I don't see that happening...

You all have my sympathies.
My guess is, once the Vet badges have been stopped for example say the devs stop the vet badges at 84 month. At that point, the new system will allow players to use their tokens to purchase up to the 84 month vet badge. So a new player could come in and purchase all the badges if he/she wanted to.
After the vet badges are stopped, I'm sure newer rewards will be available to be earned in place of the vet rewards. But we'll have to wait and see.

Yes, it'll be nice to pick and choose what I want and "buy" rewards in advance, but I think the system of earning Vet rewards/badges automatically, and for free, should remain in place indefinitely.

This is an interesting one and I am of mixed mind here. On one hand I think that buying vet badges sounds terrible, either you should be a vet or you shouldn't. I say this as someone with only a middling vet status (39 months) not as long timer. On the other hand they have set a precedent for getting older event badges after the event. I killed a lot of snowmen to get my holiday badges for instance. The main distinction I can see is that I had to put my time in on the snowmen to get the badges, but if it is just a case of dropping a twenty on them the chase will be much less appealing to me.
If I were the one to make the call I wouldn't cut off the vet badges at all, I would just separate them from the rewards that come with them now and make them only available to VIP members. If that is unworkable I would cut them off as of the change over. Perhaps later a method could be put in game for VIPs to claim further time badges as their account aged, perhaps in Oro.
Currently when I see someone with a long time vet badge set, I Know they are truly vets and that they really have put in the time. It would be sad if it just meant they had spare cash.

Remember, when CoH launched, there were no badges.

I will headbutt you. The devs have already said that they're not removing anything previously earned by subscribers, including Vet Rewards.

The Audition, Arc ID 221240 (6 mish, complex mech, comedy)

The only thing I don't like about this idea is that it penalizes players who are under the cap for Vet rewards. I will be a 42 month vet on July 2nd. If they stop the Vet badges/rewards at 84 and they stop giving them out to vets automatically, that will mean that I have to spend Paragon Points on something that was previously free.

Well keep in mind, you are not forced to buy these Paragon Points, you still get them for free each month, so you can still get the Vet badges you need for free, up until the stop point, you just need to use the free Paragon Points you get. But if you want them right away, then yes, you would need to spend money to buy more Paragon Points.

Therefore, an 84 month vet will (as far as I know) get the same 400 points per month as me, but s/he has the advantage of not having to spend them on Vet rewards to have those Vet rewards.
Now, if the Vet reward system remained in place as is - automatically granting new rewards every three months, and it just stopped when you reached 84 months, this would be fair because then I'd only have to spend my PP on these rewards if I wanted them early, but otherwise I'd get them automatically, and for "free" like everyone before me.

Zwill just said on today's ustream that you will NOT buy veteran rewards with paragon points, they are free. Although they will work in a "different fashion."
They also said that only one badge would be available for purchase, a free 'I used the store' badge. That would seem to imply that we won't be buying vet badges. No definitive statement on exactly how it will work, but I suspect they will just separate the rewards from the badges.
I think you misunderstood me. I know I'll get 400 free Paragon Points each month and that I can use those points to purchase the Vet rewards badges, but even if I don't spend real money to buy more PP, I'm still being penalized because I have to "spend" the free points to "buy" Vet rewards/badges while the vets who are ahead of me don't/didn't.
