We're going Free To Play!
Judging by the comments being made, I have to wonder if everyone understood that if you are currently subscribed now, you will never fall into Play For Free status? If you chose to stop "subscribing/paying" you fall into Premium Player status. In other words, you retains 80-90% of what you have now...with out paying for it. Anything you do lose, can be recouped by a single, one time fee; after which you keep it even though you don't pay a monthly fee.
....sorry, not seeing any restrictions here what so ever. |
Premium is not at all restricted from communication channels, or has very few of them from what I have read. It is only the people who haven't paid jack-all to Paragon that get silenced. Like Ryxx said, those people are basically on trial accounts that get to level to 50. To be bothered by one of those people, you would really have to go out of your way, or keep standing next to them as they spammed you in Local Chat.
Premium only seems to hit you if you have so many toons you may want to play at a given time. When you stop subbing, you get tokens and can choose which of your chars you want to activate. This would not affect most people unless they truly have more than 12 or so chars in their active stable - not things they play once in a while to get a shiny or two, but chars they actually want to play.
I can't see a downside to anything in the announcements so far. For people who pay every month, I cannot see much about the game changing other than maybe running into a newb once in a while.
The way I understood it, I get to keep all the stuff I purchased, which includes the Costume Packs and extra toon slots.

In other words, as a VIP player, you no longer get nickel and dimed for shiny new packs. If you found yourself wanting most of the packs, you're better off staying on a VIP. If you passed on most of the packs, Premium may be the route for you, particularly if you have 8 alts you don't play very often.
Sorry, was being rushed through posting by the Mrs. and didn't get to proofread as much as I'd liked. Originally I quoted a few people, didn't really mean to single you out in particular, just erased most of what I said originally and it kinda sounded like I'm just mad at you or something. You're not a doomer, all I was really addressing at you is why they limited communication to trial accounts, then moving on to shout my feelings at the empty room.
More shouting at the empty room: From PC gamer article at http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/06/21/ci...s-and-details/ : I stopped reading at that point. |
I almost quit with the first incorrect possessive "it's" but the CoH staff have been messing that one up for years, so I gave them a single warning.
If the Journalists don't even have English degrees anymore, who does!?

Yes, you keep them. Keep in mind, new packs will come out. Under the new system, you can use your 400 points a month purchase the items you like from future packs. If you're are on a Premium, you will have to shell out cash from your pocket. As I understand it, they want to make the VIP accounts a no brainer, the way to do that is release really shiny packs that F2P and Premium players will want to buy. VIP players will simply use their points.

Rock, rock on Hamster.
Wait, what ARE the differences between VIP and Premium? Cost wise.
|
Where you would look at costs is checking the different purchasable options and seeing whether the $15 for the sub fee is worth the 400 points you get to buy things.
If there aren't enough options in the store that you care about, and you only play enough characters that none are inactivated by the restrictions of not subscribing, premium would be worth it.
Premium is free. VIP is the same monthly sub fee.

Keep paying your 15 a month, and get lots of bonus stuff. Don't and you get less, but still more than if you quit. I'll keep paying.

Did they state otherwise somewhere else? If so, they need to clarify their side-by-side significantly, as that's a fairly significant detail. I'd also love to know what they mean by "limited" for inventions with Premium accounts.
Guide: Tanking, Wall of Fire Style (Updated for I19!), and the Four Rules of Tanking
Story Arc: Belated Justice, #88003
Synopsis: Explore the fine line between justice and vengeance as you help a hero of Talos Island bring his friend's murderer to justice.
Grey Pilgrim: Fire/Fire Tanker (50), Victory
My comments on communication differences is from the side-by-side comparison shown here. Premium's only channels listed are "Local, Team, Whispers (Tells)." Nothing else. VIP's specifically notes "All game channels, and can create them." The implication is that Premium cannot use any other channels than local, team, and tells, hence my earlier comments.

The idea here, is that a VIP account will be cheaper than having a premium account + purchasing everything that's in the VIP account.
Ryxx , gosh you only notice the gramatical junk .. I feel sorry for Hamidon being called HAMMADON . LOL!

Hmm... Just noticed that the F2P people only get access to 8 Archtypes. I wonder which of the 10 basic ones they won't have access to....
Assuming the amount of new content available to VIPs stays is consistent with what we've gotten accustomed to over the last seven years, this is pretty much an all-around great change for the game.
You need to let new players team with existing players if they are to have any hope of actually becoming a veteran player in the future. Complaints about Winter Lord and AE Babies? You are talking very high probabilities of having a permanent section of the player base emulate these reviled banes to the server. You can't learn about the game and proper behavior/mission etiquette/slotting if you have no one around you to learn it from.
I'm not going anywhere, and I hope no one else from Vic flees for the "promised land" of the VIP server either. Ignoring a given player is such a minor expenditure of time I can't believe it would even register on someone's annoyance meter. |
PenanceжTriage
I might have to fall down to premium status as I get my hands on something else that is finally out after being on hiatus "forever".......
Ya know, for the few hours it'll take to actually get through anyway.
I've already forgotten about most of you
In the end I hope this ends up bringing in more, not less, money for CoH development - through getting a larger player base, some of which are VIP and some Premiums paying piecemeal. I would imagine that figuring out what to make available in Premium is difficult - give away too many game features and you lose a lot of monthly subscriptions via players thinking VIP is not worth it. Put in too many restrictions, and you won't get enough people willing to play in Premium mode. You want players to have some fun with Premium - enough to keep playing and buying features piecemeal - and also be drawn/tantalized by VIP.
Personally I don't know what is the best thing to do business-wise with global channels. If Premium players don't have access to global channels, they miss out on most of what the active players are doing now; both socially and with organizing activities.
If Premium players can access global channels, then that's one less (big) reason to be VIP.
Maybe like Des said, you'll be able to buy global channel access if you're Premium.
I am curious to see what they decide.
I hate to be the bringer of bad news... but Willpower sucks!!! you're better off rolling a regen

I'm assuming this is because MMs are said to be hard to play for a first-timer (it says so in their description). Trollers on the other hand... not so much, but for 2 reasons I think this was the case. 1: they had to make it even, can't kill one redside without killing 1 blueside. and 2: farmers. Think of how many people with free accounts would have to buy access to trollers just to make a fire/kin. It's brilliant.
|
fire/kins are easy-mode farming. Broots actually cost some cash up front
unless you're veng farming... that's a bit easier.
