Falling Skies Tonight
After seeing previews for this I became convinced that maybe Noah Wyle should have been cast as Rick in The Walking Dead instead.

"So come and get me! I'll be waiting for ye, with a whiff of the old brimstone. I'm a grim bloody fable, with an unhappy bloody end!" Demoman, TF2
The dialogue sounds terrible, but I'll watch sci-fi.

I'm sorry, did you say Syfy's got "Wrasslin"? For that channel it better be a giant wrassler with 4 arms, and have an announcer yelling "Flawless Victory" and "Fatality"!.
Regarding Falling Skies, I'm intruiged but lack cable (hence the surprise at the Syfy lineup). Does anyone know if it will broadcast anywhere online? hulu, tnt, other?

Well it was interesting. It's like Walking Dead with aliens as the big bad.

Ok, so 90% of the human race was wiped out not even a year ago, yet these people seem pretty ok about it. "Let's find a place to hunker down and everything will be fine" instead of "HOLY **** THERE ARE ALIENS AND THEY'VE KILLED EVERYONE AND THEY'RE ENSLAVING OUR KIDS WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO". They watched the world go to hell and they seem completely detached.

I thought it was pretty awesome, I will be watching this show. Yay for Noah Wyle.

Anyway, it was a fun show, I'll keep watching.
Bah - I'm hoping it's not just a regurgitated rikti invasion. See those harnesses the kids are wearing? And what about the fact that - even though we as humans imagine our creations in our own image - these six-legged aliens have bipedal mechas?
Because they used to be humans. Kind of obvious, actually. Whether from a future time (their own children from the future, I'm sure) or another dimension (REALLY hope not) or from some heinous super-secret government experiment on the dark side of the moon (insert any other exotic locale), I'm fairly certain we're going to have Noah Wylie on one side pondering the morality of murdering beings that are likely human on the inside and on the other side we'll have his commanding officer going full-on bloodlust and wanting to kill them all anyway.
I also wouldn't be surprised in the least to see some of the skitters "remember" their human past and jump over on the side of the resistance to try and reconcile the two in some sort of brokered peace, so that from week to week you never know which side to root for or who the bad guys are.
And I'll be annoyed.

Wow you read a lot into the first episode Smiling_Joe. But I don't see that I have a problem with any of those things.
I don't think this was as good as Walking Dead but it definitely will keep me entertained until Walking Dead returns later in the year. I'm just glad Noah Wylie isn't playing a history teacher/professor.... OH ... ummm yeah... At least he looks more badass than he did in that horrible Librarian movie...
I'm simply betting that the skitters/cooties are analogous to dogs or are just a different species that was previously conquered/enslaved.

Pretty logical assumption. The aliens could be more like the Covenant in Halo, with different species united under one banner. They could be taking the children to indoctrinate them as new members, since the adults may not be suitable.
Between the look of the Meks and the little conversation about why the Skitters are multi-legged but the Meks are Bipedal I got the idea that the ultimate fate of Harnessed kids are "remote pilots" for the Meks?
I was leery going into the show.. Noah Whiley isn't my favorite and I doubted he can carry a role like. So far I'm happy to be proved wrong! He works best with good supporting characters and this show has them in SPADES! I think TNT has another hit on it's hands.
Another hope is if TNT and USA and the other cable networks keep knocking home runs outta the park like this then eventually MAYBE the big 3 Networks will start to ask what they are screwing up... (We all know there is NO hope for Fox...)
"Well, there's going to be some light music and a short note of apology saying, 'The universe ended last week, we're really sorry, we don't know what you're doing here, didn't you get the message?'"- Steve Moffat
liked it. it sure has room to grow. It sure needs to polished.
Definitely B-movie fare. Watch The Walking Dead to see better-realized characters reacting with more variety (and more interestingly) to the end of the world. The best character was John Pope. He also had the the single best line of the show: Being the leader of a gang of post-apocalyptic outlaws is exhausting.
I, too, thought of the Rikti, particularly while they were standing over the dying alien asking, "Wonder what he's thinking?" I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's happening to the kids. I'll keep tuning in for a while, but I wasn't overly wowed by it.

I don't watch any other programs right now, but I decided (back when I saw the previews for this) that I'd give this one a shot.
So far, it is about what I was expecting (on the good side).
Not that it is super awesome perfect... but I enjoyed it!
Of course, it's just been one sitting so far... we'll see if I lose interest.
My only major negative was this (and it is just personal opinion/preference for what I want): The second episode (That was really just two 1 hour episodes) was already the encounter gang of human outlaws episode. Not that this is entirely bad, but I felt it was a bit less of what I want to see (Aliens) and a bit more of the delaying, budgetary tactic of having human antagonists instead.
Now... Don't get me wrong. This is not a huge complaint about the show thus far and I completely understand and even think there should be such stuff. It just felt weird, to me, that the second episode was so lacking in the aliens. Again, just my wanting-as-much-aliens-as-possible selfish mentality there... and I still mostly enjoyed the episode.
It just bugged me that such an episode came in just the second episode.
Of course, maybe the focus of the show will be far more on such things, as opposed to an alien action romp.
And I may still enjoy it.
It's just the one main negative I had with our little venture into the world of tv watching! Delay tactics are usually what kill my interest in tv series. Not because I don't like major plot devices being teased and held off, but usually because they are done poorly and only because they are trying to keep you around, but fail to deliver in the meantime (*ends anti-tv show rant*).
Ahem... did I mention that I ENJOYED IT??

It's possible that it is for psychological effect, as suggested, but that's probably not the case.
Honestly, this is more of a turn off my brain, for a change, type of entertainment for myself.
Pew pew... alien invasion... humans trying to survive.
I like the premise: Invasion has TAKEN PLACE; Remnants of survivors struggling along, eventually fighting back.
The cast seems pretty solid so far. Will Patton seems like a perfect fit and I liked Noah Wiley for this character.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
This is what the second season of V should've been.
The lame countdown right before the show started left a sour taste in my mouth. Like the show was full of itself already. I couldn't get past that the entire two hours...
And the people didn't seem all that concerned that they were being hunted by aliens. They walked about in daylight and set up huge tents cities within spitting distance of the giant mother-ship whateverthatthingwas. The whole thing seemed to defy common sense.
The new Stephen Spielberg-produced sci-fi series, Falling Skies, premieres tonight on TNT. I'm gonna check it out, see if Noah Wyle fighting alien invaders will keep my attention week to week.
