I ran a speed LGTF this morning with 8 in 1 hour and 3 minutes and got 10 shards, lots of Vanguard merits and my notice. I love this TF because it's a two for 1. I think this is the best Shard TF in the game for collecting shards. Any comments? I consistently get 10-15 shards every run whether it's farm or speed.

Personally, I get more shards on the ITF than the LGTF on average.

I did okay but this one/Lady plays very different than my other toon that get the 10-15. I know you guys say it's random but I don't believe it. I think the powers you choose puts you in a better position. For example, Diva Attitude/Dominator, when she runs the LGTF has energy assault powers. She has enough of them and the range on her powers is so great that I can play and steal more kills than I can with Lady Attitude who is a Controller. Her powers are so pathetic she's late to the kills so much that I just level shifted to the top on just one of the Alphas this week. But Diva had all of them since December.

I totally agree with Major Tractor. The chance to receive a shard is greater on bosses/EBs and such compared to lower level spawns. The only way to increase the likelihood of more shards on a TF that drops shards to eligible teammates is to defeat more spawns.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
Every kill the TEAM gets rolls to drop a shard seperately for each person. Meaning on a team of 8, each time someone kills something, all 8 people on the team (if they are eligible to get shards) have a chance to get a shard, but each is rolled seperately. So some may get a shard from that kill and some might not, or even no one. How many kills you personal character gets doesn't matter.

Shards: 10. I would of had more but my battery ran out in the final leg just as we were attacking the honoree and his herald. Also, I had a B.S. MM on the team who didn't know how to equip his mercs and extended out time with Hamidon unnecessarily.
On one LGTF run (not a speed but a defeat all in the way but not a complete defeat all run) I got 9 shards.
The next LGTF I ran (same type of defeat all in the way) I got 5 shards....yep, random is random.

Drops are not tied to the amount of killshots you, yourself manage to land. If that were the case, I would consistently be getting more shards on my elec/shield scrapper than I do on my Willpower/War Mace tank. I have not noticed that to be the case.
Running the LGTF, I will typically get about 6 shards on either of these characters. I have never recorded the most shards on the team, and in many cases, I recorded the lowest amount. I have seen anywhere from 1 shard, to 10 shards, with 6 being the closest to the norm. On the scrapper, I have yielded 2 on a regular run, and with the tank, I have yielded 6 on a speed run. Admittedly, the 10-shard run was with my scrapper, but the Empath on the team got 11.
On ITFs, I notice I tend to get more shards. Usually in the neighbourhood of 8. The most I can recall getting on a single run was 13, with my tank, and 12 with an ice/cold corruptor, running regular runs. The most I can remember getting with my scrapper was 10. This was when we literally defeated everything.
Hard evidence? Not at all. But my anecdotal evidence is just as valid as yours.

Thank you, Champion.

Resident, what part of this don't you get? The RNG(random number generator) is RANDOM. Notice the first word in the name is RANDOM. So, incase you still don't get it...

Number of shards per run just isn't cutting it when we don't know the variables involed in each individual run. Chiefly; HOW MANY ENEMIES WERE KILLED. This can vary from run to run, and since shards drop FROM enemies, it is something we need to know. A lower than average shard count could be from a team that just waited around for the stealthers to get the hostages killed (or assasinate the horsemen). While a higher shard count could be from when the non-stealthy team members start clearing the hallways while the stealthers do their thing.
And then, if you wish to prove that the LGTF has better shard drops, you need to run, say, ITFs a similar number of times, tracking the SAME statistics.
*possibly broken down into pet/minion/Lt/Boss/EB/AV/object - I'm not sure if available tracking programs can do this. I haven't messed around with this.

Yeah, unless you have some actual tracked data from, say, hero stats, compiled in a spreadsheet that shows aspects you feel are influencing the RNG (team composition, Number of personal killshots* on enemy critters) combined with relevant data like total enemies killed*, Completion time. And even then, the data might not be relevent unless you track a hundred+ runs. So far with the data samples ResidentX provided, one could just as easily claim that characters who's names start with "D" get more drops on average than characters who's names start with "L".

Herostats is useful but all must use it for it to be effective, it just tracks my stats not the team/everyone else's right? *possibly broken down into pet/minion/Lt/Boss/EB/AV/object - I'm not sure if available tracking programs can do this. I like your thinking. I will try to do just than memorial day weekend. Until then I will be running the LGTF tf because I know from personal experience that it gives the most(VG merits and shards).
I'm posting this again, I hope to run LGTF and ITF mostly this weekend to confirm.

Try running a TF with a bunch of SK'd folks and then run the same one, in the same fashion, with all 50s. On the one with SK'd people, the 50s get more shards, because the game seems to be able to generate a shard for each player but will only allocate them to 50s. This concentrates the shard drops in to the 50s who are present and might explain why you sometimes get two or even three shards when a mob dies. On a TF with all 50s, the same mean number of shards are dropped, but they are spread amongst more 50s, so each player gets fewer. This has been my experience with the system, and I regularly find that the ITF generates more shards for me when I am SKing people along rather than running a doom train of Incarnated 50s.
