I would like this.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
I'm hoping to get this one day as well.
Enjoy your day please.
sign me up.. I hate starting in Praetoria.
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.
If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-
See, that's the thing I think is the snag in the suggestion - they've gone through the trouble of implementing the system, I don't think they'd want to trivialize it by just saying "OK, here, start whatever, wherever," and just leaving side switching as a feature for Epics.
I don't think we'd see anything like this before they make GR part of the base package - if they ever do do that.
I'm a fan of this. Side Switching should be a system for having a character switch sides, not for a crutch to start a character who never had any reason to be anything but the alignment I wanted for him all along. Side Switching is for a hero falling from grace and turning into a villain or a villain discovering his morality and turning into a hero. To my eyes, it makes no sense to start a hero as a villain just because I want his meta-game AT on the hero-side, even though the character's concept does not include any of that.
And I can live with this being Going Rogue exclusive.

Last summer Ghost Falcon was adamant that this would never happen. However, I reminded him of the dozen or so things they said would "never happen" so don't lose hope folks.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

/bets power customization (not enough people when that was said to do so in a realistic time) and the market merge (system suddenly got too complex with three currencies/markets and the way they were "going" to do it) were on that list.
And just what was this list, how many of them were actually "never happen," and what were the reasons behind them?

MoG getting fixed - Positron mocked me for even asking.
Market merge
PPP respecs - Not that they were very adamant about it
That's what I can think of off hand, if I gave it a bit I could think of more.

I am generally in favor of this suggestion, but I don't see it happening any time soon, if ever. If this ever gets implemented, Praetoria will become a ghost town. Unless they first add new zones and a level 20-50 storyline to that world.
(Sometimes, I wish there could be a Dev thumbs up button for quality posts, because you pretty much nailed it.) -- Ghost Falcon

I'd rather just see tips mission (and the prae exit mission) start at level 6-10, to preserve flavor, but I like this idea more than the current system
I absolutely agree! I love several of the villain archetypes, but I really prefer the hero environments. Being able to roll up any sort on either side would be great. Praetoria is nice and all, but the storyline gets pretty repetitive after playing it so many times.

Real Numbers - Statesman told me point blank this would never happen

The devs never said the market merge or PPP respecs would never happen. They always said they'd like to do them but there were reasons that had to be resolved before they could be implemented.

- Posi (I believe) said "We've run the numbers (pre-GR) and don't like the projections for what would happen in a merged market."
- GR announced around the same time, with the suggestion of Vig/Rogue "Gun Runners" swapping sides.
- GR beta-ing. Third currency, third market. Beta players getting a bit irked at the (IIRC) "Well, when you switch sides, you'll still have your money, but you can't access it since it's a different currency."
- GR beta - (speculation) - getting a bit ridiculous with three markets, three currencies, and "what's available/what's not."
- Convenience of merging markets compared to complexity of system and player frustration outweighs projections of "ebilness," decision not to merge markets reversed. (Thinking the gleemail probably weighed in here as well.)
So, while they didn't say it *couldn't* happen beforehand, they said they wouldn't do so because it would make the situation worse. Things changed during development to make it a better idea to implement.
Actually, as far as the market merge, it went somewhat like:

Actually I was thinking farther back to when they said that they'd like to merge the markets when the amount of available influence on both sides becomes more equalized. They were using the argument that back then merging the markets would make it impossible for villains to buy many items at the prices heroes were able to spend on them.
Of course once we had the ability to email inf to any faction that argument went out the window.

Yeah, when it was discovered that Going Rogue wouldn't allow for such a thing right off the bat, I was a bit surprised (a bit, not entirely) and have never liked it.
As Sam said, later on in a different reply (and I agree entirely), if people need to be strong-armed into starting into Praetoria... then that is not a good thing at all.
I am not convinced that people need to be strong-armed into there anyway.
Anyway... What Sam said.

It would be really nice if we got to do this now. Preatoria is okay and all, but sometimes you wanna start in the old zones.
Epic AT's can be exempt from this. |
Sometimes I go "Great idea for a hero!" and then I realise I'll either have to go through Praetoria or the Isles till 20, and the characters aren't supposed to be Praetorian or so on.

Jay Doherty: Yes, there was this one night that I was ready to go home but had to drop the browns off at the super bowl before I left for home. While on the throne it hit me. I stayed for a few more hours and that why we have the pain pads in the game.
