Entertainment Weekly is reporting that NBC is going to reject Devid Kelley's Wonder Woman TV series (also Ron Moore's magical police procedural, 17th Precinct).

Suffering Sappho! How will WW escape from this predicament?

Can't say I'm surprised by this.. Look on the bright side, at least it didn't make it 10 episodes in and then get canned..

Fantastic news! Now there's two free slots for a procedural cop show and a hospital drama! Yay!

Still waiting for the press release about what's staying, what's going and what's new from NBC. Right now it's a battle of inside sources.

The Hollywood Reporter has also picked up this story, citing multiple (anonymous) sources, so add that industry paper to EW and Variety in the "no" camp. The key factor emerging is that the pilot's scores among test audiences were dismal. How bad does a show have to be to get rejected by NBC?

Who trusts test audiences? Really?

Unemployed art students. People who think they're to good for television. People who want to seem intellectual so they just say meh ont he premise it's a superhero show.

Should just put it on the air and let people decide, preferably with at least 6 episodes if they're worried about it. That's the pilot and 5 episodes for the cast and crew to get the show where it needs to be.

Maybe NBC needs to start taking risks again, if they want to be back on top.

Look at CBS. NCIS was not a top rated show it's first year. It was ranked 23rd. Now it's ranked 2nd or 5th and the #1 drama.

I would watch this one.......every week could be something completely different. Put it on later at night so as to open up the possibilities a little.

I'm shocked. This show was shaping up to be as loyal to the comics as Birds of Prey and the Catwoman movie. Maybe they didn't make it whacky and campy enough. Throw in a goofy witch aunt, and have Nemesis show up as a hip biker dude love interest. That kind of stuff always works.

Idiocracy implied it was going to take several hundred years for society to get dumb enough to produce TV shows like that.
But with the way things are going I figure we'll get there in a matter of months at this point.

Test audiences can ruin a film or tv show. It could be that the test audience is *really* *really* *really* unfamiliar with Wonder Woman and don't know how to wrap their minds around the day of a female super hero.

Look at "Little Shop of Horrors." They had to can the unfinished original ending and reshoot the "happy version," because the test audience didn't like it (in the original everyone dies.)

Here. (skip to the 2 minute mark to see the difference)

Maybe they think being owned by Comcast will be enough.

Meanwhile, chiming in on NBC's all-but-done decision to pass, Deadline claims (again, from anonymous sources) that Kelley will shop the series to cable instead. Why do I have a feeling that the likely bidders will be Lifetime and Oxygen instead of SyFy?

Well it'd probably be better for a new series like this to be on a cable network anyway. We know SyFy would likely ruin it, but there are other channels out there that would probably be able to handle it. I figure even if someone other than Kelley was behind this series it probably -still- wouldn't have worked out well on the classic networks anyway. *shrugs*

I'm coming around to the possibility that Kelley made some actual enemies at NBC, given the way anonymous sources are talking to the press about the apparent rejection (E! is the latest to claim their own for this news). There's a rumor that as bad as the test audience screenings went for the pilot, the one for the executives was worse.
