What is the best level-50 build you've ever had?
My Warmace/Energy Aura Brute because he is STRONG and PRETTY!
...and after I spent close to a billion inf on IO's he is pretty darn tough now also.
I really lucked out with Karmic Ashe, my fire/fire tank...she is darn-near godlike even without IOs and shards.
Many things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done.
I had a Dark/Elec brute on my second account that cost me a small fortune, but was pretty close to indestructible. I know Deathsurge does mostly energy damage, so tanking him on an /elec brute might not sound so impressive. But I didn't tank just one. I tanked six of them at once without taking much of a scratch (this was during last year's anniversary bash when Ocho was spawning them like mad in Cap on Infinity).
That account is inactive, so I'm currently leveling up the praetorian version of that character, a dark/elec scrapper. I look forward to getting her to 50 and finishing her build to see how she compares. On paper, she looks like should be even better.
And then there's my main, a Fire/Rad corruptor named Cherry Bombshell. She just kills things so fast. And my Ice/Psi/Ice permadom. Also a powerhouse.
So I think what I'm saying is, I can't pick a favorite.

My vote is my bot/traps. I just have to much fun on her its really unreal sometimes.
I personally love my electric electric brute. Tough as nails and can pretty much substitute as a tank. After about 5 'do-over's I think I got it right this time.
This takes nothing away from the love I have for my ice tank or my SoA crab
They are all my children and I love them equally

My Fire/Dark Corruptor. He is an AoE *BEAST* and has godlike survivability due to his controlling powers, healing, and softcap defense to S/L.
Make a man a fire and keep him warm for the day, SET a man on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life.
Incarnates: K'lir(Fire/Dark Corr):Hot-House Flower(Plant/Fire Dom):Kinrad X(Kin/Rad Def):Itsy-Bitsy Spider(Crab):Two Ton Tony(Mace/WP Broot):Teeny Weeny Widow(Fortunata/Widow) : Zeroth Law (Ice/Fire Tank)
Mine is my Elec/Shield Brute. Getting softcapped defences took a pretty much completely-focused-on-defence IO build (she's got a little recharge, but only about 40%, maybe?), but she got there, and she's pretty tough. Solos x8, anyway.
My vote is my bot/traps. I just have to much fun on her its really unreal sometimes.

Also, giving [Hoarfrost] to MMs was a mistake.

I'm still shocked you didn't say your Warshade!

I've actually got a couple: my bots/traps, who displays an absurd amount of survivability even without 6 slotted taunt, or a heal that isn't +regen. Seriously, she is the veritable tank mage class.
And my main tanker who happens to be stone/axe. Once I specced her for a lot more recharge she does enough damage even in Granite to hold her own, and the kinds of things I've done with her to single handedly save some teams is bordering on ridiculous. I'd like to think some of what I've done with each of these characters is because I'm a good player - I have good situational awareness my tank depends on, but having my tank on an STF opens the team up for so many more options when I can solo tank recluse while everyone else ont he team goes after the towers.

Blue Mourning: lvl. 50 Katana/DA
Bree the Barricade: lvl 50 Stone/Axe
Last Chance for Eden: lvl 50 Fire/Kin
Myra the Grey: lvl 50 Bots/Traps
1 Minute to Midnight lvl 50 Spines/DA
Most fun: Ice/Ice Blaster
Most powerful: Ill/Rad Controller
She was able to handle just about any situation, including clobbering every elite boss she ran into (while hardly ever bothering with inspirations); but she was generally not as fast as my blasters.
Honorable mention: Energy/Regen Stalker
My Dual Blades/Electric Armor brute. She is a powerful whirlwind of chaos and destruction. She's at 44.80% S/L Defense and 63% S/L resistance. And in about 10 minutes, when my Lore power finishes recharging, she'll be 50(+3) in the incarnate trials .
Ah, so many choices...
Out-of-the-box my most awesome character is my BS/Regen scrapper, who, while still in plain IOs and SOs, keep showing no need for an expensive build. The trials will probably change my mind about this, but then again... maybe not.
The most absurd things I've pulled has been with my DM/Inv scrapper. IO'd to the gills and built for awesomeness - she's the puller, as in she pulls the team forward anywhere she goes. Destruction!
However, hands down my most hilariously fun to play character is... Drumroll please... Spikey Star, level 50 Ice/Fire Blapper. PBAoE blapping, there's something about it that makes me giggle. The absurd damage, the meleeing blastering, the nearly-softcapped-against-everything stupid, yet surprisingly functional, build... It's hard to tell what that something is. But it's awesome.

My Dark melee/ Invulnerable scrapper is pretty tough!
Hmm that is a toughy. Usually for me, if it gets to 50, its fun to play, and fun also means capable
My main on Justice, a little aussie hero I created called Jirra Roo, who became quite popular, the name 'Jirra' seems to have replaced my global name when people see me
It is a plant/storm/stone controller, the sets I chose for theme (such as a nature spirit), but boy do they mesh well. It over took 2 other controllers to be my first 50 controller! It was a very fun journey, It mob mauls so well i've taken it into various AE maps people tell me to 'try' and it was indeed the first character I've made that could 'farm'.
IO'ed to the guills, S/L softcap, it has taken point as a tank on task forces such as the ITF, tons of recharge. I went Musculature Radial (Moar damage and stuff) on the alpha. I now have tier 2 Interface slotted for 50% chance -regen and a tier 2 Ion blast attack (again for theme).
I plan to get all the incarnate goodies before I move on, but Lore.. could be a toughie for me, any help there would be appreciated

Oddly, my pure Human Form Warshade.
I say oddly because during my first play phase (i3-i12) I never really enjoyed my WS at all; she was a real nightmare to get to 50 and I basically just parked her afterwards. Since I've been back though, I dug her out, did a moderate respec, completed her IO setting and she's now an unstoppable (apart from disorients; Damn You, Disorients!!) killing machine, abley assisted by 2.5 fluffies of doom.
That said, I do still love playing my Ice/Fire tank, oldest and survivablist of my toons, but my WS is just a little more fun

On teams my Plant/Emp, oddly enough. I levelled her a lot during City of Dual Pistols and had a lot of fun jumping from PuG to PuG. She also managed to solo Trapdoor, The Honoree and chum and Mr Minotaur in the Incarnate arc without dying once (which surprised me given how I'd read about peoples issues with Trapdoor).
Solo my Necro/Dark mastermind. Most EBs are a speed bump to him. In fact some died so quickly I hadn't even noticed them until after they were defeated (hi Mirror Spirit!).
Fire/Fire/Fire Dom here.
This is the only character in my stable that I spared no expense in building. She's had a number of various incarnations since I got her to 50, improving drastically each time. I've had her at peak level for a couple of years, now, and then they went and gave her access to Fireball, Rain of Fire, and Rise of the Phoenix.
Now, she's got permadom without Hasten, just over 200% recharge when Hasten is up. She does ridiculous damage, has excellent control, and is an unstoppable goddess of pain if someone casts a buff or two in her direction. She can permahold and solo AVs through the purple triangles. She can do a whole lot of things, really, except survive for very long if I miss one of my controls. But that's what RotP is for.
When I get around to running some trials with her, I can't wait to see how much chaos is unleashed when I snag her Reactive Interface Fire DoT and Pyronic Judgment.
The Ballad of Iron Percy
If in "best" I'm allowed to read "favourite" there's not a fraction of doubt that it's my main, a dark/pain corruptor.
She doesn't exactly excel at anything, but she's so versatile even when exemp'd down. Buffs, debuffs, soft control (and ST hard control), HP regaining (both self and allies), attack chain made of cones, can ghost, can tp, can solo decent sized mobs or tough mobs (too many tough mobs tend to hurt a bit), has snipe and can pull AVs safely even on MOs thanks to Phase Shift, can tank if fed just a few insps... Incarnacy is rounding out the toolbox even more.
It's lovely and means she's hardly ever stuck doing the same thing in every team. Versatility keeps my altitis from twitching. \o/

The bots/traps makes the whole team absolutely awesome.
The bots/traps always has status protection.
The bots/traps effectively has 75% resist all and softcapped defense to S/L and ranged.
The bots/traps has six commandable damage dealing henchmen that sit at the softcap to everything and heal each other.

My three most effective 50's (out of...well, I've lost count, actually) are effective in very different ways.
My Will/DB Tanker, with a set build designed to maximize survivability and hold aggro, is exactly that: survivable. I haven't done any of the i20 Trials with her yet (concentrating on a different character, who I'll get to below), but there are only a few things in the game that can put her down at all, and outside of Battle Maiden's hilariously over-the-top orbital nanite strike, nothing that can put her down quickly. Toggle-dropping enemies are her biggest fear, and even then, they have to burn through a LOT of hit points to put her down. The joy of playing tankers, of playing the first line of defense between her team and the bad guys, never gets old for me.
My Ill/Kin Controller has, to this point, solo'd 11 AVs (w/o Shivans or Nukes...). Yes, her build has more purple than Welches (perma-PA...), but still...I think that says it all. She's also the character that most surprised me by being effective at all: she was a "for laughs" tribute build to a literary character, with powersets chosen purely for that purpose. I never expected her to become so powerful. Oddly enough, though, I'll very likely harvest all her purples via respecs and delete her in the near future (after trying a couple more AVs, ones I doubt very much she can solo). I'm first and foremost an RP'er, and I've taken her story as far as I think it can go without disresepcting her actual creator.
Last, and the opposite of least, is my Elec/Nin Stalker. Quite simply, the most devastating PvE character I've ever created (and I pretty much stopped doing PvP in this game when i13 hit...). Two out of her three most hard-hitting attacks are PBAoE...with Knockdown. Ninjitsu is an incredibly underrated, effective powerset, with a fantastic self-heal and multiple aggro management tools. Despite her low Stalker hit points, I can confidently march her into entire red- and even purple-conning spawns and simply expect to defeat them. And while Stalkers are undoubtedly my best redside AT, I'm by no means an uber player...the build is just that effective.
I note that the above three are also some of my favorite characters to play (from an RP perspective), not just the most effective. Interesting...
