Tanking the new content

I'm going to try to tank at least one, maybe both of the new trials tonight. On a soft cap Will/SS. Any advice/heads up tip to someone who is a newb on this content?

Ya don't do it come to TT on Champions instead or tank it on a Fire/Fire tank.

Keep in mind the incarnate trials run off different tohit values, so the 'old' 45% def isn't soft capped against them anymore. You'll need about 14% more defense in order to maintain your softcap.

Has anyone done the Sutter TF? What's with the neverending exploding ghouls in the sewers? So much purple; so much 'splody.

This was certainly my experience last night on my non def-stacking electric/fire.

With capped Energy and SL res and very-high-to-everything-but-toxic res build, I was fine untill the final phases of each trial, but then... not so much.

In those last fights, after shutting down the escaping brainwashed resistance, and getting 10/10 on the temp power glowies, it was dissapointing to be simply unable to survive long enough to protect my team.

No I wasn't the only tank there. Yes they had the same problems, or seemed to, Yes even the granite was getting flattened.

Yes I'd had a glass or two of wine. No the granite probably wasn't moving enough. No we probably didn't have a good mix of buffs and debuffs. No not all the team was 100% on the game plan, and the delay in explaining did let mobs build up, but I wouldn't be surprised if all of the above were necessary expectations.

I have only one point of data in each trial.

We all know what one point of data statistically does not make

But if the trend continues, I will have to either re-spec, which seems unlikely to fix the problem or re-roll an over-def shield dark or some such.

I've tanked it twice, first time we only got 1 guard down, 2nd attempt we went wrong on the portals (only had 3 temps from the run, then spawns overwhelmed us very fast). The run was the hardest part, we seperated very fast and keeping mobs busy while people could pass was doable, untill those psi-mobs kicked in (fear and heavy psi dmg..).

Perma granite, going cap SL/85%ish all except toxic/psi, the 'trash mobs' are no problem most of the time. Once those energy melee dudes build up fury they start to hit quite hard (had a few blows at 250ish dmg), but the main issue remains the psi mobs.

Although the trashpacks have 2 max, once they portals start spawning, having 3 on you basicly means death. For a granite majority of the blows are quite doable, but the psi mobs are your real problem. Maybe next time i pop a bunch of purples or orange (since quite some mobs do heavy defense debuff), i probably survive a bit easier.

Sidenote, i'm still 50, not 50+1 or anywhere near +2.

So is the softcap for defence still 45%?

Yes. Its just the incarnate trials that mobs have higher tohit. Grab a couple Kinetic Dampeners for when the fecal matter hits the rotary impeller.

No.. the 'new' softcap for the Trials is 59%

Until people start stacking bubbles or getting some Destiny-unlocked Barrier or Rebirth buffs.. it'll be a lil rough.

My Ivn is sitting at 52% S/L with 1 guy in range, and unless I stayed tied to our Kin on the 1 Lambda last night, the courtyard is a virtual deathtrap. I'm figuring that debuffs are the key here... the IDF base chances to hit are soooo high that we are better off debuffing how much damage take rather then worrying about not getting hit. I'm curious how a good Sonic or TA or Rad will boost Team survival in these- from my few runs lasyt night? A LOT!!!!

Still 45% except for a very few specific situations, and in all but one of those (DE in Tip Missions) you'll be surrounded by teammates.

If the soft cap didn't change whenever Devouring Earth dropped a Quartz Emanator, it hasn't changed because of the new Incarnate trials, either. If the soft cap didn't change whenever Nemesis LTs were defeated and cast their Vengeance, it hasn't changed now, either.

Special cases are special cases.

I ran the Lambda 3 times last night. Well, "ran" may be a bit too cocky. We attempted the Lambda 3 times last night. Wowza. My softcapped Will did not feel like a blaster, more like a Fire Armor Brute. Everything is fine until it really ain't, and then its godawful. The last time we ran we set a league w/ 16 before loading. Good peeps. It was new content to all of us. We did not get enough containers/crates. So..... the unending ugly fights in the courtyard began. Like watching monkeys try to put corks in the titanic, it just never came together. I did unlock my first new ability though, and have 5% towards my next. Following Zombie Man's excellent guide I will just 1st tier that 1st ability (I chose the debuff, for obvious reasons...) and when I get the second ability unlocked 3 tier it for the level shift. I will only be doing Lambdas until I get that 2nd Slot opened up. Then i will start the other Task Force. But, yeah, Lambda seems to eat tanks (And I heard a rumor it is tougher on Stone Tanks...)

Ran it with my stoner last night. The only times I was dropped was because I was dumb enough to fire off earths embrace right beside Maurauder. Rooting + unresistable damage will ruin anyones day.

Kinetic Dampener does not work as it is a temp power. Day Job powers like Combat Shield do not work as well.

Eye of the Magus works though.

Don't get ahead of your team. The old mentality of "I'll gather the next spawn solo and hang out until the team catches up" will get you killed. You'll need the team to back you up. Their heals, and buffs, and foe debuffs, and foe controls, and taking their own turn at absorbing damage will save you.

And it doesn't hurt to already be Alpha'd +1.

I ran the Lambda 4 times on my fire/fire/body yesterday.

Never completed. Three runs were with 8, one run with 16.

My tooled up fire/fire was able to do more than okay, gobbling purples and oranges like candy the whole way through the maze.

When you hit the courtyard: You NEED to get the team moving on the portals RIGHT NAO.

We never got the portals under control early enough to make a difference. I dunno, maybe people are trying to get the badges and hoarding or something.

BTW, those badges, if they are what I have heard, are literally rewards for griefing. I have no ideas who thought those things up.

I had no idea they built in rewards for griefing on this thing. NICE. Badges for hoarding the acid thingys I am guessing? Anyways, I know from your posts Mauk that you are a solid player. I feel better about my multiple failures knowing others (especially people I figure know what they are doing) are struggling as well. I am actually pretty happy with my 3 Lambda failures in one night. After all, I unlocked one power slot, and got 5% towards the next. 19 failures until that bad boy is unlocked lol.

But seriously, i cannot believe they put rewards in for working against the team. It's basically an open message to the players "Never PUG again." i was already looking to get with some known friends to form a good run. Maybe even gonna start organizing them myself if I have to. And I have seriously tried to not lead teams for the last 3 1/2 years. I want more info on the badges for griefing high end task forces you are talking about. Devs, it's like they smoke crack and come up with these "great ideas" they need to put in.....

Also thanks to everyone for the good advice like lots of purple and oranges, and staying with the team. Course, once the courtyard chaos starts to happen half the time the team ports away from you to the hospital.....

Exactly. Once you get the +2 for itrials and unlock some i-powers, tanking the incarnate content is a breeze, even on a fire tank.

Yeah, I just got my first i-level, and wow, what a difference. Time to get that second tier 3!

Yup, teams really need to stick together: that's really the ticket for these. There's a lot of buffing and exotic damage flying around against you, so they are really not go it alone ventures. Once you figure out where things are for Lambda, make sure you coordinate with team members... on the one run I've done (on my Fire Tank) we had a few people know where things were in the warehouse, and they basically ditched people that didn't know where things were as well, which made it more difficult than it should have been.

Reading up on strategies and working with team leaders helps with all that, too.

I had my second chance to run both these tonight, and it was fundimentally different.

I knew where things were, and, importantly so did the team. We didn't wait around for mobs to build up while things were explained, etc. etc. etc.

I think incarnate powers (not mine) have also hit near critical mass which made it easier.

We smashed through both trials, though I think we weren't so overpowered that there weren't still places we could have messed up.

All told though, it was a night and day experience from the first time I tried these when they first came out a few days ago.
