Does anyone know who's idea it was to make PvP IOs cost up to 15 times more Merits than they are actually worth?

Does anyone know who came up with the numbers?

No? Then, I'll settle for their loved ones...

Aren't they "worth" over 3 billion a pop for some of them going on Market Prices?

If 1 AM is worth about 72 million inf as my "I Hate the Market" experiment thread predicts so far, then 30 AMs translates to 2.16 billion inf. Yep, looks about dead-on to me. 35 AMs translates to 2.52 billion inf. Yes, that's about right.

Devs did it right.

I can come up with that much influ pretty quickly, I am working on earning a Gladiator's Armor proc for:

1) To really get the effect of how stupid the costs are, everyone really should get at least one PvP IO this way...

2) What better way to prep for the unbelieveable tedium the Incanrate system looks like its going to be than getting 30 merits for one IO?

No, they didn't. 5 Merits, maybe. 30 Merits is ridiculous.

Yes, when looking at it from a "money-making" perspective, your response is completely understandable.

The thing is, basing the value of an A-Merit on the most expensive items in the game is a bit misleading. PvP IOs that sell for 100-200 mill also cost 30-35 A-Merits.

Not saying its right or wrong just pointing out the disparity that exists.

Just in case you weren't aware, but you're not required to use PvP IOs. I know, I know, that's a pretty outrageous comment, but it's the truth!

Also, if you're going to complain about them, you should also complain about Purples, as well as the actual freaking drop rate of PvP IOs. ATM, it's probably easier to get them via A-Merits than PvP.

Well, your calculations seem incomprehensible. Some of these things were selling for between 2 and 3 billion inf before the A-Merits existed. Five A-Merits = 3 billion inf? WHAT???

They wouldn't be selling for 3 billion if they were easier to get.

Correct, in fact, the only reason I am bothering with this particular one is to maintain concept on my main. Keeping concept and running at full power, pretty crazy idea, I know...

A disparity that wouldn't exist if there was a better system.

So... very rare items should be easier to get? Gotcha.

Might I also suggest very hot drinks should be served on ice? Such as hot cocoa?

Also, I've earned up 30 merits for a PVP IO. It wasn't that difficult, and I wasn't playing more than 10 hours a week at the time. Taking out the days I didn't play, it didn't even take 60 days to do it. You could even do it in 20 days. Well, not you specifically, that was the general "you". You (specifically) sound too lazy to accomplish that.

What this boils down to is the game designers say "purple IOs should be ultra-rare, and PvP IOs even rarer." At least, in terms of how they set the a-merit purchases. Before they instituted a-merits, these IOs could not be purchased except from other players. And PvP IOs are largely rare due to how few people actually PvP, but the people in charge seem okay with keeping things that way -- or at least, not providing a method of purchasing them that is significantly easier.

But your argument is "they should be much easier to get". And the only real answer to that is that the people in charge don't agree.

Y'all realize there are more than 2 PvP IO's, correct? Maybe this is what the OP is talking about:

Should I spend 15 million inf or 25 a-merits on that damage/recharge? Decisions, decisions...

You can spend 1 A-merit on a Kinetic Combat Dam/End, or you can spend it on Winged Boots. You can spend 540 tickets on an Empowered Sigil or Enriched Plutonium.

Where, I ask you, is the justice in letting stupid people do stupid things?

Actually, I have the time to get up to a dozen of them in the usual timeframe (going with a low-end estimate for ease), if I wanted to spend that many hours doing so. I don't believe the time involved there is worth the reward, considering every other non-PvP/Purple rare is worth only 2 Merits, tops. They aren't worth up to 15 times the merit cost of any of those.

You do know that game designers are not infallible, right? They can be (and are) wrong about ideas just like the rest of us. This is one of them.

The reason they're so dear to buy with A-Merits is that they're supposed to be earned from participating in PvP.

The correct thing to do, given what the PvP IOs were intended to do, would be to greatly increase their chance of dropping in PvP, not make them easier to buy in PvE. That'd run contrary to their intended purpose.

Discuss.
I think we should feel fortunate that there IS another way to get PvP IO's, if you wanted them. However, when using alignment merits is the better way to get PvP IO's, than actually PvP'ing, something's definately wrong. But one the thing I've learned, the devs do not change drop rates or prices for merit purchases, so there isn't much point arguing about it.

I'm a little confused here. I was looking at the Glads 3% which is 30 A merits I think. Even if I use use 50 reward merits and 20 mil inf a day (rather than do tips) isn't that 600 million instead of 2 billion? Or did I drop a zero somewhere?
