Mod05's Toys...

Mod 05 already said that My Little Pony stuff was a banned topic on the boards, even if it was about a comic about My Little Pony.

So what's up with this thread not being heavily moderated? Can we please get some consistency?

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

I believe it was stated that MLP didn't fit into the context of Comics and Hero Culture (even though it's filled with fun fantasy stuff like basilisks, hydras, and dragons). It wasn't an outright ban. Besides, this is a discussion of Mod05's desktop, posted via the CoH facebook profile, and gives us insight into daily life of the Paragon offices.

So relax... this isn't a pony thread. There's talk of burger joints, Kamen rider, and just getting a feel for the people behind the game.

So, are those ponies REALLY MOD05's, or did some co-workers hear about the great forum debate, go out to McDonald's, and buy the girl's My Little Pony happy meals to decorate his cubicle with...

I just discovered 5 Guys a couple of months back. Sadly we don't have an In-n-Out around these parts. Heck, we finally got a Sonic, some 40 miles away still, but it's closer than before. Been seeing commercials for Sonic for like 5 years now but never able to try one. Still haven't, not crazy enough to go 80 miles round trip for a burger and shake.

Last time I had Sonic was when I stopped by there on the way to Disneyland.

Now that I know about the In & Out "Message" I'll have to go there more often myself. I might have a burger for dinner (or is that supper) today.

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

5 Guys has fantastic fries, and they give you so many!

I'll definitely have to check out a place called "Murder Burger." Although apparently it seems they changed their name to "Redrum Burger."

...Also they're across the street from an In-and-Out.

Actually, the pony thread with the comic links (even though most were broken) was left open. It just ended up falling off the boards for lack of participation.

With regards to consistency in moderation, especially when it comes to the Comic and Hero/Villain Culture forum, it's a matter of "How much is this related to CoH?" While I know there are a lot of subjects out there that our users would like to talk about, we try to keep the focus closer to things that are related to City of Heroes: comic books, TV shows and movies with heroes and villains, science/sci-fi, etc. This is, of course, always something that's under examination, evaluation, and a lot is left to discretion, but the main point is that we do not want the Comic and Hero/Villain Culture section becoming a "General Off-Topic" area for any and all subjects, especially those unrelated to City of Heroes.

Currently, discussing or referencing other video games on the board isn't just.

Again, while I understand that people want to discuss other video games, perhaps draw parallels with CoH, the forum is a City of Heroes forum. Ultimately, the game that everyone is on the board to discuss is City of Heroes. There are many other boards out there that allow for general video game discussion, if you are so inclined. And with regards to comparing/contrasting, while we always appreciate feedback, constructive criticisms, and suggestions, there are certainly ways to voice them without relying on "X game does this."

They're mine. I didn't even pull the, "They're for my daughter/niece/little sister" excuse. I walked into McDonald's every few days for the two weeks they had them and was like, "YOU GUYS GOT PONIES?"

Ah, I just said "they're for my wife" and everyone there gave a somber nod of sympathy. They still remember me from the "Beanie Baby" happy meal trauma.

Justice doesn't have a "current" status - something is either just or unjust, and that never changes - freedom of expression is always just, for example
What you mean is that it currently isn't legal - and as Tyrant and his loyalist stormtroopers have shown us, the law and justice aren't always the same thing

The toys are a bit ooogly, though.

That's right. You saw it with your own eyes. A guy who mentions guns in his sigfile loves him some Rainbow Dash and the rest of the Ponies.

I believe that makes "security in manhood" stereotypes balance out to zero, right? Lol.

What's with the ponies/horses = girly thing? Manfully manly men used to ride horses all the time in the old days

Which is just as stupid a stereotype as the one that assumes all men who carry guns are insecure in their manhood. There's nothing wrong with fancying fantastical creatures and there's nothing wrong with people who live outside of urban areas carrying guns. There's no Animal Control office to call out in the sticks, if something tries to eat your cats you have to deal with it yourself up here.

Horse =/= Pony.

In "the old days", men rode horses to hunt (killing helpless animals is fun!), for transport (they might as well be inanimate objects... like a car), for farmwork, for war (which is generally an entirely different stock from other horses, with the catchall name 'warhorse'), etc.

Ponies are cute little pets. And there is a difference between a pony and a foal/colt/filly/yearling.

A pony is just a size classification - and at the top end of the scale it overlaps with the size range that was often used for cavalry horses.
Several breeds, like Arabians for example, lie across the cut-off point, so some of them are ponies, and some of them aren't.
The difference between horses and ponies is the same difference as the one between humans who are over 6 feet and humans who are under six feet.

I knew there was a reason I liked Mod 05. Bronies represent.

It is also unmanly to be under 6 feet tall. The standards of masculinity in our culture are arbitrary, constricting and occasionally contradictory.

Ponies/horses =/= My little ponies... not the over use of pink, wings, etc. Horses are great to ride, my little ponies are aimed at girls.

Wow, that's quite the explanation. I'm used to you being much more brief. Thank you.

No offense, but the fact you guys left the Zero Punctuation review threads up for The Other Other Superhero game (and even had Red Name posts in them) sorta undermines this whole paragraph. I know Yahtzee was (relatively) nice to CoH and it's nice to wallow in Schadenfreude every now and then and all but it still smacks of double standards somewhat.
