Has the costume option for 'torn' ever been popular?
This is Ragetear, a ghost character I made several years ago (but rarely play). Perhaps only female models get the options, but there's definitely the option for torn clothes with skin showing for them.
I think the option has a place here; City of Heroes definitely has a darker side to it (as the Rogue Isles attest.)
There are a few torn options, But I rarely use them.
thematically it would be good to costume change mid battle to represent wear and tear, but then people arnt going to see your costume.
And how far do you go? By the end of an STF your down to your tattered undies? heh.
I use some of them; however, a lot of them are older and low quality.

I'm pretty sure the male torn options don't show skin. They should add it though 'cause I've wanted to make mummies and zombies and stuff that would totally use it.

I see the torn tights pattern that Eiko-Chan posted an example of quite frequently. I don't always see the torn look as a centerpiece of the costume, but I see it used as a component in a costume quite a lot. I seem to see it (or at least notice it) more on female characters than males.
There are torn robes and cape patterns. I see the torn capes occasionally, often on fantasy-themed characters and especially on undead themed ones. I don't think I've ever seen anyone with torn robes. I see torn short sleeves on characters going for the Ryu/Ken look.

I'd grab screenies, but not in a position to do so right now

Sonof-damz , a martial arts scrapper who uses the torn bottoms/robes option with the feather cape.
Yes i love the torn look, it makes a character look more "street worthy" in my opinion.
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
I have a couple that use torn costumes.
Some years ago in one of the costume suggestion threads I asked for a torn shirt similar to Doc Savage's usual stage of undress after a dust-up. That seemed like a fairly popular request. Combine that with a fisticuffs/streetfighter/bar brawler powerset and you get manly-man win.

My DP/Sonic corruptor, Calamity Bane, being a zombie cowgirl uses the torn options on the trenchcoat.

Sadly, because of limits of the CoH character creator, you can have skin showing or you can have two colors (and mixes thereof), but not both at once.

Character index
In some ways, perhaps a next generation game--not the current competition but a CoH2 or CoH3 era game really--should include battle damage customization in the character creator. i.e. toggle if your character's tights can get shredded (not in cheesy ero fanfic ways but more like what the OP has posted), or if your character is made of metal and will get scratches and dings (ala cars in GTA IV), will get bruised or burned, etc. etc.
This take on the thread is might be a little left field. And I realize for a population that's still asking for things like animated fingers, MM customization, more power animations, animated hair, dresses, other dynamic cloth items, dynamic battle damage for characters is a bit to dreamy. But I don't think it would be an out of question innovation for something that is truly next or next-next generation.
Hear that, secret CoH2 pre-alpha team?
Thanks for the replies, folks!
I was rather thinking that some upgrades to the 'torn' costume options we already have would be very nice....being one of those crazy roleplayer types, I like doing the costumes to represent the biggest of the baddest fights where you're all tore up afterwards.
I love the Doc Savage option and always thought that look was cool, if not outrightly iconic. Ah well...maybe if I just mention Noble Savage and Sexy Jay in my post, they may smile kindly on my (and now I see others) request.....

My NRG/NRG Blaster has a ripped up, torn and ragged version of her armored trench coat look. I used to have it bound to a key to change her costume to it after she used her Nova.
It should only be unlocked if you disturb catgirls in Pocket D.

I'd use them more often if they weren't limited to one color.
I'd go from 2 color tights on my main, an outfit that's all one color and torn. Wouldn't look right.
If I just had plain one color tights on my character, I'd use the blasted option for tights for sure.

I have an Illusion Controller who was essentially killed by a Freddy Krueger pastiche and is now a ghost. The torn and shredded patterns work wonderfully for him, especially with a blood-red undercolor to represent wounds.
Storm Summoning is great because it makes you better than everyone else in the game. - Camma
Knockback is mitigation. It won't be removed just because meleers ***** and moan. - Chaos Creator
The torn/Blast patterns are really limited by the relatively primitive character creator. Textures for the legs and torso only cover half the costume part, and the texture gets mirrored to cover the other half, so any "damage" to your costume is going to be perfectly symmetrical. Also, since the creator only supports up to two colors per item, any option where you can see bare skin needs to reserve one color for the skin color, meaning any torn clothing with exposed skin can only be one solid color.
Issue 16 made me feel like this.
Warning: This poster likes to play Devil's Advocate.

I'd love some more options for them. Like others have said, there is the Blast pattern, but since it doesn't seem to extend to gloves or boots, it always looks kind of weird. The torn capes are nice, torn robes usually just look bad.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.
Hi all.

I did a bit of snooping on the forums and suggestions threads, and it only seems to have come up once or twice from what I could see...but I was wondering if the notion of 'torn' costume parts have ever had much popularity? To illustrate what I mean, here's a picture, done by the master of such, George Perez:
I realise this is heavily detailed and Superman's become a War Hammer/Shield Defence guy, but the essence is there: it's still PG-13, but there's identifiable torn patterns there that show skin.
To the best of my knowledge, only the Blast pattern for legs (which allows for no skin) and the Robes Torn option come anywhere near this. Now this is obviously your 'Battle Damaged' option, but I'm sure people would like to play zombies or mutating monster types that go all Hulkish, so this might be an option too.
I'm just wondering if it's ever had any real support and would people get behind it? I don't think I even saw it in Noble Savage's art thread....
