How many times must I die to ambushes before I can re-complain?

If you soloed a x8 DE Tip mission with only one death, it was because you have over 70% S/L resistance due to stacking Tough on Invuln, and DE are, with the exception of Devoured spit and mushroom holds, entirely S/L. It's not the inf and time that you spent. Sorry, Atomic.
My Katana/Invuln also has much less issues with DE tips than MA/SR. One reason is that Invuln has a lot to fall back on when defense goes away. The other is that DA/Parry is one of the few ways to get enough defense to beat the quartz (triple stacking it plus TH + Invincibility +Weave actually causes the DE to occasionally miss me).

And yet by the late 40s all that's left is ice thorn casters and death mages, turning them from the Circle of Dooooom into the Circle of Fail.

I think Praetoria isn't the only area of the game where the difficulty runs backwards from what it should

You know what I really, really hate?

Old style MoG on Crey PPs and especially on Valkyrie.
Who decided that thing was going to last that long? So...she can't even dent us....and we can't dent her. For 15 freaking minutes. How....lame.

It could be. Should you be defeated five times in EVERY mission? No. But sometimes that's acceptable. I find that many players often need 2-3 defeats before they will change their tactics and/or seek additional resources.

At least those guys go away at 45. Of course there are only two types of Paragon Protector Elites, once again homogenizing the group. But they don't have MoG.

Edit: actually, the part I *like* about those missions is that they encourage AoE restraint, in a game that is stupidly saturated with AoE. My problem is that the mission doesn't say "don't spam AoEs or we'll hurt you" it says "if you spam AoEs we'll kill all your SR scrappers so there."

Yes, yes this is true...
Whats the whole thing with Behemoth overlords suddenly being wussy little Lieutenants? I liked them when they were Boss con!

And Nightwidows! Christ alive, leave them as Boss con! Having Smoke Grenade spammed at you ever other spawn is beyond a joke. It's another, very nigh auto-hit 'Haha you lose' power that seriously annoys me.

I still don't understand why there is City of Heroes CoT and City of Villains CoT. Why not merge the two? Add Hellfrosts and Succubi to higher levels, Hordelings and all that....add more variety!

Not in the early game, when you are trying to hook new players, many of whom, surprise surprise, don't share your opinion that everything in life should be a challenge and drive you to excel, even your entertainment.

Now I'm curious. I should try to track down these challenges and see how well my scrapper does.

Kind of a tangent, but did they remove the ability to change your screen name? I was going to change mine to my global handle when I resubbed but I can't find an option for it anywhere in my profile - but I KNOW it was there before ('before' being 2+ years ago, though...)

The fact that he didn't accept PMs from the beginning and seemed impervious to common sense did not endear him to me. It was a wonderful day for this game when Castle took over.
It really was. Once he took over, we received unprecedented information about the game, and someone in charge of powers that listened to logic and reason.

Castle leaving made me pretty sad.

But they added the Nerva Spectrals to CoH! Variety!

But seriously, please do. Every Hordeling that spawns is a Spectral that doesn't. Unless you rely on S/L/Neg damage, in which case you'll get nothing but Spectrals anyway.

I never assume you do. I will tell you what I do think. On occasion, I do believe that you get so wrapped up in the math that you don't see the forest for the trees. This DE tip mission issue is a good example.

The sheer gaul of the devs to have something so mechanically unbalanced grates on you I think (Yes, I'm putting words in your mouth, but you are my Queen O' Maths and I claim the right to do that! ) to the extent that you plainly just ignore that unfairly harder or not, it's not really holding SR and other defense sets back in any meaningful way. It's not stopping people from playing defense sets or slowing their reward rate. So who cares that it's completely unfair and the devs are big meanie heads for adding it?

They did when they switched to the new forum software. You might be able to PM Avatea or Zwillinger and ask for yours to be changed, though.

Yes, but some players in fact DO share my view that games should have some challenge.

You every play Super Mario Brothers? How boring would that game have been if you could immediately win every level. Yes, I went there and used the Jack Emmertt gameboy analogy!

Since the rewards are already lowered when you put it at -1 difficulty, I took that as a given. I would have used the option numerous times in the Villain patron arc had it been available way back when I was doing it. And I would certainly use it for the Trapdoor mission that I have been unable to defeat on my own.

In the switchover to the new forums you had to pick a permanent screen name. The old forums allowed you to change it as you will.

I did get beaten down once (mostly because I was getting cocky) but I finished the mission, because as annoying as the emanators are there are ways to negate them (kill them first, drag mobs away from them, etc).
On my Invulnerability, the guys who summon cairns are more annoying than the ones who summon quartz. On Invulnerability, when defense fails, I've got 90% Smashing/Lethal resistance.

I think my shield tanker would find Devouring Earth a lot easier to deal with if I set up a macro to target quartz, because right now, it takes me upwards of 5-7 seconds to manage to target it, during which time, I'm not really attacking.

What, you don't have a power that grants you 90% defense for every 20% to-hit bonus the enemy gets?
