Weekly Strike Target Horror Stories

One Heart attack moment where the tank with the Thorns temp DCd at the start of the Aoen mission, but he came back just as we got to the Aoen room.

And also had one run where our tank (who was last on the team and had caused the first tank to switch as he desperately wanted to bring his tank) pointed out that he had no taunt for Lord Recluse... I was very glad we had 2 illusion controllers with us, as I doubt gauntlet could have held agro. But the tank ate floor within a second of agroing the big guy anyway.

Yup. When I was on a team with /Pain and one other buff/debuffer (I forget which), and a bunch of melee (one was a widow though and none where tankers), some not even level 50. I picked up an Envenomed Dagger for the last mission, and played taunt bot on GW (while throwing the Envenomed Daggers) and taunt bot on Recluse while they took down the towers.

Even got some "Nice tanking remarks" on GW

Great stories people!! For this weeks stike target, the STF, I ran it a total of 13 times (2 failures) with my Stone brute and 3 times (1 failure) with my blaster.

This weeks target , Kahn, should go easier, although I do feel for those locked into Red side, The Barracuda SF requires a certain mix of team, and without that mix, might as well not even start.

Heres my most recent strike target tragedy:

Join a team with a blaster. I had seen him advertising LFT, as was I, for about 5 minutes. After that, he sends a /tell that we should go ahead and start a team up. I agree and here we go. So he sends the /invite and asks what else to look for. I tell him grab some support and say I have to bio and will brb. Well I get back and he has the team filled, all 6 other slots, with scrappers, tanks and brutes. Even again, no big thing, always up for the challenge. So I glance through each toon, looking at powersets and choices, just to kind of gauge what we will be working with. 4 of the 6 he invited, No IO's (not that I am an IO snob by any means) and most have double travel powers, and they aren't SS and SJ . They have things like teleport and combat jumping as SOLE travel powers (maybe they had raptor packs). So i think to myself, maybe they got them for IO mules...but they have any IO's..so that can't be it. So as they are talking in chat, I casually ask if any had done the TF before. One and myself had, all the others had not, including the leader. So great there I am 6 melee, 1 blaster plus me, and 6 out of 8 never done this before and the one that had, had no IO's. So we have 1 guy that has an OK build (from what it looked like) the rest have SO's, and me. So whatever, always up for a challenge.
We begin, and I tell tell ya, it was like herding cats, they/we were EVERYWHERE on that first map. No deaths, but the organization was HORRENDOUS. Now heres where you say "Why didn't you step up and take some kind of lead" Well for 2 reasons, 1. it wasn't "my" team and I will not step on a starholders toes, just not how I roll. Don't want it done when I form a team, will not do it to some one else. 2. It was funny as all get out watching these guys and reading chat. They all seemed oblivious that they were just going nuts. But we got it done.
Second and third mission pretty uneventful, there were a couple deaths. Nothing big. Our DPS just powered through just about everything, so real debuffs were not necessary, although Envenomed Dagger is quite possibly the best temp of all time (3 of us had them and I had 5 recipes, the salvage to craft them and the worktable accolade if I ran out, and I did....twice).
The Aeon Fight went about as expected 3 total wipes, but we got it done. Now the fun part..the patron battle. We zerged rushed them about a dozen times. Reforming each time to the chorus of "we got this, we got this". Well we didn't "have this" and the patrons is where we met our demise. We could not immob/hold GW and she was healing off us way to much, even with everyone popping purples like no tommorrow, we just could not overcome her regen.

Total time - 3 hours 56 minutes ( a new record for me )

Now before you say "why did you stay with a team makeup like that?", I do not like to quit team once I have been invited, if I can help it, and I am always up for a challenge. While this TF did end in a failure, it failed as spectacularly as possible and it was very fun, and that is the point of the whole game, isn't it?

I do not expect any real bad stories will come of this weeks target, Kahn. As most of the runs I have done, are completed in less than 40 minutes, and I have never been on a failing team yet. But with as many times as I plan on running it, I am sure to get on some "interesting" teams, and am bound to fail once or twice. Stay tuned

My first Khan failed, leader wasn't interested in debuffs, just dps, so I think we had an Emp and a Kin for support along with my Kheld in place of the rad/rad defender I offered. The kin didn't do much, and gave up and quit 5 minutes into the final Reischman fight, followed by the rest of the team who quickly decided (wrongly, IMHO) that it was impossible. . .

No STF failures this week, but the time a couple of years ago a friend and I tried to do it on our Warshade/Peacebringer twins, we found out the Stone tank who had joined us was an AE baby, and totally incapable of (1) standing up to LR, or (2) following instructions to take insps BEFORE running in and faceplanting. He apologized, and said he'd fix his build, but that didn't help us much right then. The team was light enough on debuffs/damage multiplication that we couldn't take towers down in the time he could survive, and ended up giving up, elapsed time ~4.5 hours. Both times I've been on a STF that failed because of lack of tanking survivability, interestingly, it was with a Stone tank. . .

I did have another one where the tank, who also formed the team, DCed during the LR fight, AFTER all the towers were down. We tried a variety of things to survive fighting him, since all the rest of the team were squishes, but couldn't manage to drop him without losing critical dps due to deaths. Shivans helped, but when he would have his final bane bloom, they would start fighting the banes and he'd go back to killing us. After giving up, I was at the markets when the tank logged back on and expressed surprise that he was still on the TF, apparently when he DCed he decided to go out to get dinner. THATS what got me annoyed.

I've been on failed Khans but they're never spectacular failures. Just eight people pounding away at Reichsman for a half hour and not getting him down far enough to trigger the first AV. Or finally getting the first AV and finding Reichsman totally healed before we finish it, leading people say say "I don't have four hours for this, sorry".

I did the WST 4 times last week. 3 were cake-walks with no problems at all, but the 4th one, dear lord... First of all here's our team dynamics:

1. Warmace/Shield Brute (Me)
2. Gravity/Empathy Controller
3. Plant/Radiation Controller
4. Soldier of Arachnos
5. Robots/Dark Mastermind
6. Fire/Fire Tank
7. Invul/SS Tank
8. WP/DB Tank

So I look at the team, and I'm like "okay, this might be a little tough on the DPS front, but otherwise I think we'll be fine". I'm not crazy about having 3 tanks, but 2 tanks are great, so one more won't kill us. I'm also worried because half of the players have not done the task force before, but again, this doesn't really worry me: the learning curve isn't that bad. We start the task force make it all the way to the final mission when I discover that NONE OF THE TANKS HAVE TAUNT. NOT ONE. Only the Brute (me) has taunt. After the team wipe three times in a row because the tanks cant handle LR, I order them to go pound on the pylons while I take on Recluse. We succeeded because I "hover tanked" him, which I hate doing because it feels so cheap, but at this point I realized the only way this TF was getting completed was if I did the hard parts.

No failures so far.
Stf is boring though. Most my vills are heroes/rogue for this week since bsf is horrible.

Look forward to rwz imploding next week.

It used to be using all the tools at your disposal was considered good gaming. Now apparently it is exploiting. It isn't like he is saying he is flying under the map and taunting or anything.

A tether isn't really a "tool" to be used. It's actually supposed to be an anti-exploit tool itself, and using it to make Recluse "easy" doesn't seem to be "good gaming". It's taking advantage of poor coding (if I were coding a tether, the tethered mob would clear all threat (and probably most other effects) when pulled back.)

LOL last night, we had one of these "horror" stories...

We had a team of three brutes, one scrapper, one tanker, one blaster (3rd tier alpha) and two Fortunata (3rd tier alpha). I believe all of us are well IOed.

We felt lazy trying to figure out who wants to play MM. Oh my... we spent an hour trying to kill Reichsman and in the end we just gave up. Our damage was good and almost nobody died during all the ambushes (we cleared them all) but the AV just regen and phase out too much.

We knew we might encounter problem in the end without MM but we didn't know even with 3 level shifts (and tons of buffs just no -regen debuff), we couldn't beat him eventually. Oh well. lesson learned. I am not mad...I just thought maybe we could eventually beat him. Maybe after 2 hours? lol

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

STF. Ahhh, so, we get all set up. Leader is friendly and helpful, we are cooking right through it. I'm impressed. What a great pickup group. True professionals. Even those with little experience are keeping up. Leader is very happy. Say's we're awesome.

We get to Dr. Aeon. Leader quits. Leader had the temp power. No goodbyes. No reasoning. Not a disconnect. Then, one team members says he was warned that said leader is horrible and he should never have joined.

It irks me. We were doing so well. Why? Why did he do that? At first, I figured hey it must have been a huge crisis. I've had that happen before where I had to log without warning.

But this was a quit, then log. Plus, a few people said it was typical of this leader.

I still can't figure why, if we're rolling and going to finish way ahead of schedule and get shiny rewards, would he just drop close to the end (or there abouts). No wipes, no runs no errors.

apologies, no real horror stories...

My very first STF and we get to ghost Widow. the team has hit a speed bump. I get the bright Idea to hit bloody bay for a fresh pack of shivans. about 15 minutes later the team is back on GW overwhelming her with green jello. the rest was cake thanks to someone explaining the battle plan.

My very first Nazi ballerina man type guy and I -had- to go afk for the grounding rod mission, totally missed out on the temp power, totally didn't need it. I forget the team make-up but we pretty much stomped a mudhole in everything. Shivans and backup radio this time. I also found myself in the role of "rez the scrapper guy" and burned through my temp revive power

I think the key to success is: bring as many temp pet powers as you can, be prepared like batman.

Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.

I guess jousting mobs with my defender back in the day was exploiting as well. I can live with that.

It is nice to be able to succeed using different methods rather than everyone stop in front of the AV and faceroll the keyboard.

Heres one that happened today:

I was finishing up my 5 run marathon of Kahn and we were on the last mission. Let me preface, this was supposed to be a speed run, as were all of them. Well for this final run we are going good, no real bumps...until the last mission. We get there and start pounding on Reischman, going well. We get him down far enough to were all AV's were spawned....no big deal, like I mentioned 5th run today...I had done 6 the day before, mind you all on the same toon, all the same way So all four start in and we are still ok...then the Psi damage starts in...am I a Stone, as is the other tank..and thats when the problems start. So down I go, and out of wakes..hosp it ...get back and try again...down I go again...regroup and take out the 4 AV's and then back to Reischman...only now he is TOTALLY regened...crap So we start pounding on him again and right as we get him halfway...my computer crashes

So I have no clue whether they finished (I am sure they did, but I won't know until I log in this afternoon for another marathon). But I feel bad I DC'd, they probably think I quit and 1-star'd me. Oh well. Not really a bad story, just a bad experience.

BTW ...all runs today and yesterday were sucessful, including a Master of run (although 2 of the 5 yesterday could have been masters, we just didnt set for it)....and thats assuming today was a success as well...so in total that was 11 runs on one toon and 1 run on my blaster

Shhhhh! I just found out about this on a pug STF last week and I'd rather keep this on the down-low. It's great having unencumbered access to that door.

That just makes enemies run around corners looking for you. Not the same thing as a tether.

I don't see how this is considered a bad thing. My main has TP as her travel power (Dark x3 'Fender), and has CJ for the extra defence and Immob' protection. Even then, I took TP pretty late, and CJ wasn't in the levelling build. Due to lag, I'm often using Ninja Run to get from mission to mission.

Recluse is a cheating godmoder. He deserves it.

That is the best argument in favour I have ever heard. I think I might be convinced!

You can get the shivan mission while on a taskforce? Thats awesome.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

IIRC, the shivan mission isn't actually a mission. It's just kind of a special zone event.

We did a 'Cuda SF without MM or Defender.

Whoopsie

Seems like the team consisted of people who had never run it before, including me (or maybe didn't run it enough to learn the trick, specially if they weren't MMs or Defenders themselves). The leader had but mistakenly he had thought that the Blaster we had would get the temp. I informed everyone of the error when, after a couple of phases, I opened the wiki and checked the TF info.

There was also a bit of confusion because my Stalker was supposed to clear stuff.

Leader: "Did you get the temp power?"
Me: "Yup."
Leader: "Okay, use it when the SHTF."
Me: "Um, use it? They're all passives."
Leader: "Nope, one of them should be clickable, we all get a special power."
Me: "I didn't get a clickable power."

Later on I realized my power was indeed supposed to be passive - just letting me walk into the rear death rooms to clear 5th Column.

Newbie mistake I was clearly responsible for

Oh, and I had atrocious connection issues too, which really sucked. Still, nobody seemed too downhearted by our team making mistake, as there were many shards to be had.

Ooh, ooh! I finally got one.

So I get into this Khan PUG with one of my marketeers alts (ELM/SD scrapper, weak build) and everything goes more or less just fine. At the glowie/temp mission, that one dude insists we wait for everyone (in a full team of 8) as to get the temp... I tell him there's no need to hit Reich more than once if you hit him right away, and sure enough the guy starts flipping out telling me he's done it 22 times and in 26 minutes (I think he thought that was a great time).

Cue in the final mission. Of course he runs in the final room and just sits there (along with the tanker, admittedly, but he was clearly trying to make it fail), Reichsman starts his speech and aggroes before getting whacked with the temp, so we have to hit him multiple times with it. Then people start asking for the temp when Reichsman unstops... Sure enough players were so busy spamming the temp rather than attacking we wiped, and wiped, and wiped, as some insisted on staying dead on the ground rather than hosp it up.

Finally, while leet dude went to his SG base (apparently to get T3 insps for the tank... which he ended up giving to me, after telling me I was a moron ; guess his vast experience of the Khan TF didn't let him know how to click on the right teammate... nor how to avoid getting killed by a regular group of -1 councils while on the way back, as a matter of fact), we regrouped, took on the easier AVs one by one, then as leet dude joined us we finished Reichsman. What seemed like it'd be an usual 30 minute run by the fourth mission turned into a 1 hour long TF because of... Well, I'd lie if I said "that guy's ego" alone, because I certainly didn't help matters by confronting him, so I guess I asked for that horror story.

In the end, easily the worst team I've been in and still a sub-1 hour completion time, so I really don't get people who claim this is hard.
