Weekly Strike Target Horror Stories

I was the cause of a WST horror story.

We were doing a master run and we get to Reischman with hardly a flicker of a threat to loosing anyone. In the battle we took everyone down as they came up until the Countess.

She broke out and as she approached - Reischman went unstoppable and my heal kept missing (Fire/Dark Corr) so out of habit I hit tab and healed off from the Countess - she instantly killed me. It was perhaps not a one shot but it was wham, Dot and dead.

I had no chance to heal.

Thus failed the Master run, I was so disappointed I logged immediately after the TF and felt terrible for it. What a mess, I have never been the cause of a master failure and it was a terrible feeling.

lol I got one.

Ok I was doing the khan tf this week on my MM right? So the whole tf was going well in the first few mishes, we had like 3 scraps one tank, two blasters and my mm.

We get two the last mish. Here's where hell broke loose... XD

So I was taken my time I need to set up since I'm the mastermind, so I need to deploy and buff. The rest of the team takes off and starts fighting and RUNNING to the last room. Two of the scrappers get to the last room and stand there for like 2 minutes. So you know if you run to the last room you either beat the boss or TP the team to your location... Well they didn't... When asked if they had a TP the answer we got was no... >.> Well after the rest of the team arrives, we set up and what not and begin with the fight with Reins. Then about quarter of the way in the scrapper yells out to the group IGNORE THE OTHERS, JUST ATTACK MAIN AV.... XD So you can guess it concluding with a team wipe and trip to the hosp... reinsp and back in the mish, I run toward the last room only to find enemies not defeated and staring me in the face.... down I go... XD After I was resued I rezzed and set up in the last room.

After I was ready, we started again... This time the AVs weren't in the room so the coast was clear. After about 5 minutes we noticed that reins wasn't going down as fast as before... The leader was the first to notice. The same two scrappers that ran to the last room the first time where now fighting the AVs that WEREN'T in the same room... XD After many requests to join the rest of the team, they finally did and we were able to beat rein with just Nem on me... XD lol I thought that was a laugh. Happy tfin.

Was this a speed run? You should be able to tell by this point if it is or not. If it's a speed run, this is absolutely SOP, though usually only stealthers w/TP will go there. Sometimes, it's just a freakin' race for some reason.

On a competent team, this is a very valid tactic. Almost all my speed runs used this the last few days w/great success--the only once we backed away was when we had very little (read none) debuffs, and we decided, mid-fight, to change tactics and kill off the AVs one at a time. Usually, you simply lure the 4 AVs near Reich so as to use all your AoEs on them together (including debuffs), and by the time you have Reich down, the other 4 have suffered damage (1 or 2 may just fall from the AoEs up til now), and the rest sorta melt away afterwards.

On a speed run I use that same method; someone with invis/tp heads to Reichsman's room and TP's the rest of the team there. Once there if we have a competent team... something that's fairly obvious by the final mission... we do stay on Reichs and the team ignores the AV's while the tanker taunts and holds aggro on all 5 of them. This tends to gather all the AV's in tight to the tanker and into AOE range of Reichsman. Once Reichsman dies we take down the other AV's and collect the reward.

Any decent team should be able to punch this TF out in under an hour; good teams should typically do it in under 45 minutes. My best time so far was last night... we managed it in 23 minutes... although my average time is probably in the 35-40 minute range.

I'd say the horror was you, Kotchie. I sincerely hope they reported you for griefing; there was absolutely zero reason to kick them from that second run.

Indeed, that certainly sounds like griefing to me. Kotchie, on the first run did you actually inform everyone what the story was? Did you ask the players to stick with a speed run or did you kick first and not bother asking questions? Based on your story on the second run I tend to think it was the latter.

In the second mission you were clearly out of line and intentionally griefing other players with absolutely zero justification. I only see one person at fault in either mission and that person was you.

No doubt about Kotchie, sounds like you are a horror story.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

Well, I certainly hope I never end up playing with kotchie.

Now if he had refused to play with them the second time around, or kick them right away, that is one thing, but waiting until the tf is over and they have done all the work, then kicking them off so they don't get the rewards? How were they to know who he was? Did they even know that they had offended him the first time? I mean, come on, they did the tf, played through the whole thing, and kotch even admitted it was a good run, so now he's going to grief them on the basis of some minor past offense?

Bad, bad form. I hope they petition the admins and get there rewards reinstated.

It irks me. We were doing so well. Why? Why did he do that? At first, I figured hey it must have been a huge crisis. I've had that happen before where I had to log without warning.

But this was a quit, then log. Plus, a few people said it was typical of this leader.

I still can't figure why, if we're rolling and going to finish way ahead of schedule and get shiny rewards, would he just drop close to the end (or there abouts). No wipes, no runs no errors.

I used to like getting the AVs in close to Reichs to keep things controlled, help drop them with AOEs, or whatever the team wants to do. But most of the runs I did of Kahn, the other AVs did not like to move. I would have aggro (besides taunting, they were shooting at me and hitting me), but even when I broke LOS, they would not budge. Quite bizarre. Not sure if that's a consistent thing for others, but it was for me.

Well it has been a while since I posted here mainly because I really haven't had any horror stories to relate.. This is until today! I was on Sister Psyche TF number 9 of 9 with my ILL/EMP Controller (Perfect for stealthing those base leader and sonic device missions in Sis P). So the team leader has 7 of 8 slots filled and then the next thing I see is new mission.. Investigate Freakshow activity in Skyway. I make my way to SKY and along with the tank and 2 other members of the team we are in the sewer, staring at the first mob and waiting on the rest to arrive. When I see in chat.....

"How do I add another member after the TF starts? It won't let me" After having that explained to him we all head back to IP to reform. I no sooner arrive in IP and apparently the potential 8th member has disappeared and we "decide" to go ahead with 7. /em eyes roll

Okay after the 2nd mission, which I stealth us through successfully, I head to Talos to speed things along when the leader comes on team chat again...

"So what city is the contact in cause she won't talk to me?" We explain she's in Independence Port and he makes his way there. As soon as he bring up the "Talk To" mission I click the contact, since I have been waiting in front of him for several minutes now,and we get to the board train missions.

We get through those okay but somewhere along the way lose a member to either DC or RL .. now we are at 6.

We start the kill alls and the first is in Talos ... after that we head to Steel and then Skyway to finish up. At some point the leader uses his Ouro Portal and we see this in chat..

"Why wont the contact talk to me anymore? I am still the team leader but she keeps asking to speak to the leader." Bright boy is a Rogue MM and has Teleported into the Rogue Isles! We have to direct him back.. showing him the several options that will get him back to the BLUE side.

By this time we have lost another team mate to serious Computer issues and overhear the leader telling that member to try to reboot. "Don't quit you will still be on the team when you get back!" Well team mate 6 never came back BUT we got to fight his/her added mob members!

Now I am starting to stealth since this thing is getting LONG and I find Axel -F and we defeat him. Guess what ocurs next..

Team leader drops and as we head into the final few missions we now have a 4 man team. 1 Tank, 1 Blaster, 1 Troller (me) and 1 Defender. Okay No big deal the next couple missions are click the glowie and move on which we do with ease and get to the final.

It becomes painfully obvious now that several members never quit the team, probably including our former fearless (and clueless?) leader, as we are fighting huge mobs and darn near team wipe a few times. I stealth and start finding hostages to rescue and FINALLY we manage to get a mission complete.... In only 2 Hours and 52 minutes Keep in mind this was the 9th time since Tuesday I have done this TF and most were barely over one hour with 2 lasting around 1:30 because we had a lot of lower levels on board and spent more time killing stuff so they could level. I don't think I have ever done a Sister Psyche that took so long.. Heck I don't think I ever did a Synapse TF that took that long!

Anyway all of my Incarnates have now completed week 4's WST and I can move on to other things. I still have only had two Failures on WSTs and both were week one (the STF) with that same team leader but this was an even bigger nightmare than those failures.. No shards, no chance at a purple drop, recipes and salvage base on being a 25 level and after almost three hours the only good thing I can say is .. I got my Notice of the Well and the three players that stayed with me (I eventually became team leader) were fantastic. Here is hoping things go better next week on the APEX TF

I have a few weekly tf horror stories.

STF (it's almost always STF) - I was on my Brute when the TF was formed. The leader tells us nothing while he sets it up, though i do a quick look at the team composition my level of concern rises a bit. At the time i joined we had 2 tankers, me a brute, and a blaster. We need support desperately, debuff would be nice... heck a troller would have been great. He adds a 2nd blaster... now we're down to 2 spots. I suggest we use the last two spots for a healer... or debuffer or better yet something that does both. My concern was further heightened by the fact the 2 tankers are a lvl.45 no io'ed wp tanker (i love wp tankers, but lvl.45 with no ios?) who also happened to be the team leader... and a lvl.50 fire tanker... with no emp/kin for cm/id, no shields or buffs and no debuffs i had grave concerns for the fire tanker's ability to... you know. tank

Well i was assured by the team leader after i expressed my concern privately, that the fire tanker was "well io'ed" and very good... so my concerns were alleviated slightly. he then added another scrapper leaving us with 1 spot open

An ice/cold troller was looking for a team and i begged the team leader to get it on the team... figuring that with one last spot available, this would probably be the best one to get for us. The team leader said "cold sucks"... at this point i started to watch the broadcast for other STFs sensing disaster.

The team leader then grabs a TA/Archery defender and off we go... on a MoSTF (yes... he set it up as a MoSTF). Well the fire tanker died to Sands, which killed the MoSTF attempt before we got going. the leader claimed connection issues and logged off on the spot pretending to disconnect (i say pretending because he was back on with an alt forming a new STF 2 minutes later, global name is global name)... We won the fight without a team wipe because i was able to tank Sands and the spawn while the team took him out.

We continue on without the leader down one, the firetanker keeps faceplanting, sometimes on simple mobs, so i start to tank for the team something i didn't want to do because my brute can't tank LR toe to toe without some healing or buffing help (no temp powers for the flying trick, no one else on the team with flying as a travel power), and never tried to tank the 4 avs.

The fire tanker gets upset at kissing pavement even 2ndary tanking for me, and ragequits before we get to aeon. As a 6 person team we now grind our way slowly, though we're doing it and in defiance to the moronic leader we refuse to quit. We get to the council and somehow get through them, we get to lr... and i can't hold him. period. After trying and failing several times, so i figure since we have no buffs, and no way to tank LR, I suggest we ignore LR and just attack the towers and hope it all works out. We DID have a lot of damage on the team, so our reasoning was sound.

It was bloody, it was messy, but it worked. 4.5 hours later we completed the longest and bloodiest STF i've ever been on (i've been on failed ones, but none that took that long)

No real horror stories, but a few interesting runs, some successful, some not, and some that we technically succeeded at that raised some hairs.

I was on an Apex this afternoon in which the Tanker and several others died about 4 times in the opening minutes of mission 1. By this I mean not the tentacles, but the Clockwork trash groups you encounter prior to going in the sewer. He seemed like a nice guy, so I actually felt bad for him, but needless to say this all came to a huge crash when we actually got to the pylons. At least partially to blame here was our "support," a Kinetics Controller of the "I only Speed Boost people who are having endurance trouble" sort. Her signature moves were an AoE sleep and standing outside enemy range with Arctic Air running. Luckily, we all agreed that it just wasn't going to happen and split up amicably, no harm done.

Later I did a successful Apex run with a Tanker who used his ample time dead to bark orders at the rest of us. Luckily he was at least competent when he was standing, and for the most part able to keeping Battle Maiden off of the squishies. We did have one complete team wipe at one point during BM, but managed to come back for victory. I died at least 6 times during the run, but Rise of the Phoenix took the bite out of it; during our huge wipe out, I was able to come back and save the da--I mean, stand around dodging halberds until the rest of the team got back from the hospital. The only other notable thing about this run was a point during the sewer/tentacle part where the team basically wiped and me and one other teammate managed to kite about 20 Hydra and duo the remaining 50% HP left on a pylon... may God bless corners, and Ice Slick.

I should note that to at least some teammates, I'm probably a horror show on my own. Of the 4 TF's I've run this weekend, I've probably died at least 20-30 times. But Rise of the Phoenix means it was never really substantial. Managed to score my level shift on a character who was 47 yesterday. Good times.

Apex run

Brute on team last night kept dying and would wait for his self ress to kick in instead of going to hospital. He was barely IOed so his wait time on self ress was about 3 minutes, TL wouldn't kick him. He literally died, self ressed, died instantly again and we waited yet another 3 minutes for him to ress back up. Hindsight I should have starred him as he probably does this sort of stuff with other toons as well. Instead his name is ingrained and burnt into my brain.

Took forever to get it through everyone head they needed to either fight from the same direction on BM and to ignore the swords. It took 1:32 Minutes to finish it.

I was the tank for a similar run (similar enough that the above may have been me). I tried Apex twice on my DA/Ice tank this weekend. First try we got to Battle Maiden with little problem but the controllers/doms kept immobilizing her, which would first cause a Blue Patch of Death around her (making life difficult for our melee dps, which admittedly we only had 1 scrapper and I think 1 VEAT) and then a cascading failure as all the space around her filled up with more BPoDs. At least, that's my interpretation of why we failed.

My second attempt went like Tex's description above. It was my fault, I built the team and it consisted of scrappers and blasters with 1 controller. DA doesn't eat energy damage well . On top of that, I knew the hydras would be a problem and they were. I suppose I should go and get the wedding band temp power, that'd be something anyway. Or craft the kinetic dampener. That'd at least help for the Clockwork.

Let me say, that by the end of those two task force attempts, I was well and sick of retoggling Dark Embrace, Murky Cloud, Obsidian Shield, Death Shroud, Tough, Weave, Combat Jumping, and Cloak of Darkness. My tank still needs the stupid notice before he can get his rare. But, I shut off the computer and did some productive things for the balance of the day. So, not a total loss.

So I started an Apex w/my scrapper. Team is a brute, other scrappers, some blasters and dom and a squid (important! remember for later). No debuffs. Fearing trouble, we started anyway. Ppl dying in the 1st fight against clocks. Zero aggro control, but still, even w/minimal support, I usually expect alpha-slotted squishies to be somewhat self sufficient, but not so here. Still, we get to the hydra, and I tell ppl how to just kill the pylons from range, so we get through it.

Last stage of the 1st mish, ppl are dying left & right, and even my IOed out DB/WP is dying a few times (damn clocks won't gather for me to regen off of). I suggest this isn't going to work and I'll get my..., er tank, since that seems to be the biggest deficiency (I was wrong, my Cold defender prolly would've been best...). This is maybe 20 min in or so.

Grab my Stony, start over, get through the 1st mish okay. Not great, but okay. Get to BM, usually her 1st half fight is fast... not today. Fine, we're into it, ppl get killed, more than usual, but I expect it. Eventually, she runs away and we're hunting champions. More deaths, but we get BM back, and the fun begins. *Deep breath*

Remember that squid? Well, it seems that khelds will spawn cysts in this mish. Multiple times. So w/BM at 50% or so, and regen'ing fast due to lack of debuffs, along comes a cyst. At first, we're trying to concentrate on BM. No good, too many deaths. Fine, we get on the cyst, and finally finish it off (more deaths, more ppl complaining, dying in the dirt, refusing to hosp it). Back to BM who's back up to full by now. Slow progress, more deaths, more corpses just lying there, etc, etc... we get her down to around 50% again (remember, no debuffs), and bam, another cyst spawns. WTF??? is the main reaction of the team. Serious despair sets in. Get the cyst again, back to BM (back up to 100% again), again w/the whining, lying, afk'ing, eventually take her down to around 50% again... yup, a third freakin' cyst spawns. Rinse, repeat (the whining & despair increasing all the while), and, well, long story short, we eventually get her down before the inevitable 4th cyst would've spawned.

Final time was 1:25, though it seemed infinitely longer. Add the initial 20 min for the abandoned 1st attempt and you have a 1:45 run that I usually do in 30-35 min. And it really felt a lot, lot longer. Moral: no khelds if you have no debuffs on your team. In fact, just bring debuffs.

I was responsible for a Apex Horror Story this past Friday. I was on my 50+ Fire/Rad troller. PuG team, mixed ATs, couple blasters, 2 tanks, 1 PB. I was the only support toon.

Eat floor a few times, but I play pretty aggressive, and rare is the tank i can't steal aggro from. First mission gets a little brutal on the steps of the PPD, but we soldier through.

Second mission is tough, but much easier to hosp and rezone, so we just keep putting the screws to BM. Got her down to about 20% health...

And then I hear this through my baby monitor:
THUMP!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

I was out of my seat in a flash. I was zoning at the time, to the hosp in RWZ, so not even a BRB. I just booked.

My daughter was OK (if she was a Co* AT, she'd be a Brute for sure.) Mostly shocked, and for the life of me, I have no idea how she climbed out of her crib. Imagine trying to climb a shoulder high wall while in a sleeping bag. So I calm her down, set the crib mattress to its lowest setting, get her back to sleep, and finally get back to my comp.

I was still on the medipad in RWZ. My team was gone. The chat log as a series of "Where are you?!" and "Screw You!" Since I was the only source of -regen on the team, they couldn't take down BM.

So if you were on that TF on Virtue on Friday Night, around 10 pm est... sorry about that!

In all fairness, they had no clue what happened. All the knew was that my toon was standing on a medipad picking her nose while they were trying to finish off Battle Maiden. I did try and respond to a few of the tells, but they were already offline by the time I got back.

I have kind of a horror story, although it wasn't from the WST. It was a couple weeks ago, and I ran into an STF team forming. I decided to join, but I told everybody that it was my first time on the STF. I was also the only tank. But they didn't seem worried, so I figured it would be ok.

The team consisted of good players, but the problem was the makeup. We had a full team of melees...me on a tank, couple brutes, couple scrappers, one stalker, and one blaster....and all of us were backed up by ONE emp. Zero debuffs on the team.

We got to the 4 AV fight without any problems, but this ends up being a complete dead end for us. Of course we end up pulling all 4 AV's at the same time, and I'm supposed to tank all 4 at the same time....as a fire tank with zero buffs or debuffs. Oh, I also happened to be completely out of insps. Of course one emp can't be expected to keep an entire team buffed, so most of the team has to rely only on themselves.

Anyway, we spent at least an hour on the one fight. Never got any of the AV's below like 98% health. Never even really got a chance to coordinate anything, since people were dying like every 20 secs.

Eventually we just gave up. Nobody blamed anybody else...it was just obvious that we had a wrong team for the TF. For a couple guys (including me) it was the one and only TF failure we ever had in this game. Oh well, at least it was a good learning experience.
