AVs in RV

How would one go about putting together a team to hunt AV's in Recluse's Victory? Either heroes to hunt villains or villains to hunt the heroes?

These do happen and its relatively easy. Not sure what server your on but on Virtue we have a LOT of globals that would help with team building. Our badge channel, two different Loooking for Team channels, and two more that are designed for TFs all reach hundreds of on line players that are looking for badges, XP, INF, Salvage, etc.

Find the ones that are there on your server and join.. then broadcast an AV hunt in RV. If you belong to a good SG with several good coalitions you could even try doing that.. Simply put together a team from the members of your SG and the Coalitions. If you wind up short a team member or two.. the advertise on the globals.

SG is out, I'm in a small one and no coalitions. And then when I switch sides.... well, I don't want to leave the SG even if I can't get into it.

I'm on all the channels, and I did think about that, but I've never seen anyone looking to make a team for this on any of them. I thought that maybe it wasn't done that way for some odd reason.

also keep in mind for the team that rogue / vils = red side pvp
vig / heroes = blue side pvp

not that hard to do overall but keep in mind the RV versions are MUCH different from the AV versions...

A: you are gimped due to pvp rules
B: they are not (and tend to have different powers / dmg output relative to regular versions (GW is best example))
C: shivans, HVAS and RV heavies are almost a must to get the dps you need to drop them
D: they tend to spawn in groups and most of the time will chain aggro so you end up dealing with all of them instead of just one

When I was going for these badges, I would just send out in my server-specific global channels that I was looking to take down RV heroes/villains. Sometimes I would get good response, sometimes not so much. All you need is a relatively well rounded team....tanker, buffs, debuffs, dmg.

As to (C), pets are a big help, but not a necessity so long as you have a full team with at least one of each listed above. Pulling IS a big part, though that can be a pain sometimes.

Something that I found to be very useful are the drones....have one person pull whichever AV you don't want to fight to your side's drones, and they disappear. At the same time, have someone else give the other AV a runaround.

The thing that makes this the most difficult is rival side pvpers....they can ruin your attempt if they decide to jump you when the AV is almost down, but with a full team, 1 or 2 pvpers can be put down quickly and you can go back to killing the AV without much more trouble than a speed bump.

Also, as far as I can tell, the pillboxes will follow their last order if able - so if you can pull near enough to a box, jump in, and tell it to attack your av of choice it can help.

You may want to hold off on any immediate plans to get the AVs in RV, for the past two anniversaries the AVs were spawned in regular zones (the heroes in the Rogue Isles, the Arachnos AVs in Paragon City), and you could get the badges that way. The devs might end up doing the same thing this year.

I hope they do this DarkGob.
Playing on Union and well, I do not mind the pvp. Its the silent pvp'ers I am not a fan of. You know those who do not say anything, just take you down. Not even GF, good fight or anything.
So, I hope for the anniversary that they will spawn plenty of them (and that I am online). Still need a few heroes from the Freedom Phalanx on my main badger.

Too be honest, I'm not a big fan of PVP. From my experience unless you are a power gamer (which I am not) and willing to invest a lot of time and effort into building a character that can compete in PVP (which also I am not) you really don't have a chance against those that are.

I have spent some time in PVP areas and my main defense is to be constantly alert and to run (I run a lot) and to make sure I pick up some type of phase shifting ability or temp power to help me run.

But there are badges and other things to be gained, like nukes, shivens, etc. that help in other areas of the game. There is also a bit of a thrill going into a PVP area and gaining these things solo, always nervous, checking around every corner, checking your surroundings before trying to rescue a scientist in Warburg or collecting a meteor sample in Bloody Bay or attacking a pillbox in RV. Thrilling and enjoyable until someone takes you out in two hits before you can move.

I don't mind being defeated in PVP except when it is the same character taking you out repeatably. I wonder what they are trying to prove, you already beat me once and it is obvious that I don't stand a chance. Then I have to ask, why don't they go pick on someone bigger and badder? Are they the typical bully and can only attack when they know they can't loose? That's the only thing that really bothers me in PVP.

Anyway, back to the subject. I have managed to spawn some AVs in RV and been defeated by them almost as fast as by the PVPers. It was the fact that there is always 2 or 3 of them together. I tried it with 2 heavies (one from the zone and one Vanguard) and was able to do significant damage with them and the pillbox to a single AV. If it was not for the fact that 2 others where there and beating me senseless I think I could take out a single AV on my own (on my own and with 3 significant pets that is)

Now that the Winter event/2XP madness is over I'll likely be trying to put some teams together for it. But, now that I know they may spawn in PVE zones during the anniversary, I may just hold off for another month or so. I have plenty of other badges to go after in the mean time.

I would actually recommend against saying anything in the global channels.

The problem is that I can almost guarantee you that for every one person thinking, "Cool! RV AV badges!" there will be two thinking, "Cool! Easy pickin's for PVP recipes and badges!" Sad but true. You will almost invariably draw more people who don't give one whit about your badges and will actively kill your team over and over, actively preventing you from getting them. And because it's a PVP zone, there's not a damn thing you can do about it except give up and try some other time.

Keep your "broadcast" audience at a bare minimum. I'd suggest even limiting it to only sending /tells to individuals until you get eight people and avoiding mass broadcasts altogether.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

I remember at one point people were actually using coded messages to gather for badges in Pvp zones on Victory. They would say things like "we're going to do that thing in that place". It was pretty funny. I'm not sure how well it worked.

This is the main reason the I avoided just going ahead and broadcasting in the channels and why I was looking for input from others. Everyone will know what is being planned.

Although, what would happen if I broadcast in those channels but not for a right away type of thing and instead that we would plan a day and time once a full team was formed. Even if we waited a few hours... or some other random time. No reason to run right into the zone once the team is formed.

PvP zones tend to be pretty barren, so just put together a team from wherever you can find one and set a time and place. (best to recruit more than you need just in case)

See if you can include at least one decent PvPer so if any wannabe ganker comes after you they'll get their *** kicked instantly.

Well, I've been working on these, villain-side, for a little while now. I seem to have bad luck with the spawning, because, so far, out of maybe 10 Hero spawns, Sister Psyche and Synapse have not spawned! Finally, just a little while ago, while I was solo'ing, Sister Psyche spawned. I managed to pull her away from BaBs and Positron - one other guy then teamed up with me, and we managed to get her down to about 1/4 health (with liberal use of large inspirations, of course). Then another player joined in, and she was down to a teeny tiny sliver of health, and then heroes captured a pillbox and she disappeared!!!

Agh!

I didn't think the AV's/Heroes were supposed to reset until the ZONE reset - but apparently I was wrong.

Anyway, I'd definately be up for planning a time to work on this (Virtue server), rather than just going into the zone solo, and hoping to pick up one or two people. I have found, by the way, that two people CAN take down one of the AV/Heroes - you just have to both grab Heavies, probably be level-shifted, and probably have a smattering of other helpful temp powers (like Envenomed Dagger). Three can definately do it, contrary to what I've been told by some people when recruiting - I had a team of three recently that were sailing thru the Heroes, no problem.

So, anyone up for trying a run on this at a low-pop time? Like, say, 3am some weeknight?

Last year I spent like 40 minutes staring at Mako (last one I need for Justicar), both of us completely frozen by the lag that comes with 200 people crowding into Galaxy, pushing the buttons for all my powers and hoping for the best. I didn't get the badge.

Well this just goes to show you that you can learn something new everyday.

I've been collecting badges for years and know a lot about badges in general but I've honestly never heard about this opportunity to get the RV AV badges outside of RV during the last couple of anniversary "celebrations". Maybe I just never paid attention because I got those badges done so long ago I wasn't thinking about it. *shrugs*

Anyway it sounds like this has become an annual event so this is cool news for those people who still want/need those badges. Hopefully they'll choose to spawn them a bit more regularly so there won't be a repeat of what happened to you Silver Gale.

Ok, no one has taken the initiative on trying to organize a team to do this yet - so I will!

Tonight (thursday night/friday morning), at 3am Eastern time, I'll try to put together a few people to do this. Keep in mind - it should only take 3 if we all have heavies and good builds/level-shifts. So, even if just ONE of you can join me - let's try to do it - I might be able to find one more from my SG or private globals.

Send me a tell ingame - @Silver Streak

This is really better posted on the server forums for whatever server you're planning this on. Also, publicly advertising the time means that you're going to get some PvPers in there to oppose you as well, even that early in the morning.

So, your suggestion is - post this in a more visible place, where more people will see it, but I'm better off NOT publicly posting it? Thanks for the constructive feedback, dude.

In any case, to address your points - since this thread has already attracted people who are interested in doing this, and several have said they are on Virtue server, I'm just following up on the thread topic. And, you're right, keeping it on the down-low is better - hence, why I'm not starting a brand new thread on Virtue forums, announcing it. If we get PvP'ers in there opposing us, we'll deal with it. If they outnumber us, and therefore we can't accomplish our goal, we postpone and arrange another time. No problem.

Exactly. He suggested posting that it is going to happen in the Server forum where people who can join are more likely to see it, but to leave out the time and date until you get enough people interested to do it.

If you end up having issues with PvPers my advice is to create a channel and invite folks to it so that next time you can organize without drawing attention to yourselves...I suspect you shouldn't have much trouble though. Also hiding from searches while in a PvP zone is a good way to avoid drawing attention to yourselves. Best of luck to you!

There is a channel for this on Virtue. You must be invited. If you join you cannot use the channel to plan the best time for hunting other players. Joining means that you are also willing to police the channel, reporting anyone in the channel that attacks other channel members during a planned event.

You can be invited by sending a message @jh2. Channel is just starting so not many members and it may take us a while to build up enough to be of any real use, after this initial invitations it will be up to member to invite others that they trust.

All we can do is try it and see what happens.

For hero-side, I organized large events which were publicly announced to get a maximum number of people participating.

There was interference from PvPers, of course, but there was always one team patrolling the area while the other teams took on the AVs. Unfortunately, after 1 or 2 zone respawns, people lost interest in fighting off the players and the event ended from attrition.

For villain-side, which I did last week or the one before, there was no announcement and no public organizing. I was with some friends (PVPers as well) and our original intent was to get the Spiderling pets. Taking out an overall total of 5 heroes with a 3-man team went fairly well and there was no player interference. I just need Statesman and Synapse to complete the set now.

Both methods work. The latter is definitely easier, while the former draws in a lot of attention from the server populace - which can still be a good time for all involved when handled properly.

Awesome, Hube! Great idea - I'll definately join. I won't be on much this weekend, as there is a local boardgaming convention that I'll be spending all my time at, but I'll hook up with you next week. Thanks!
