Not dead at all... your experience will be improved by joining the community chat channels on what ever server youre on...

No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded...

I would suggest the Freedom server. I may be biased tho.

How is good old Guild Wars doing these days anyway?

This game is heavily instanced so unless you join a global channel on your home server you're bound to be missing out on most of the action.

If you're new to the game, consider joining the N P C channel. It's great for on-the-spot help - whatever server you hail from.

This game is still quite active. Freedom and Virtue have the highest populations. The server list puts the last server you were on at the top, then list the other servers from lowest population at the top to highest populations at the bottom.

As said, it's best to join a global channel to find people. Check Channel Search under the Tab button on your chat window. If you can't talk at first then the channel has auto-silencing turned on (an anti-spammer measure); check Friends on top of the chat box and open the listing for that channel. A name with a star by it is a mod and they can unsilence you upon request; right click on the name and pick 'chat' for that.

Note that if you are using a Trial Account most of the chat functions are disabled; another anti-spammer measure I'm afraid.

Full of people in the cities and Battle Isles, a smattering here and there in the minor outposts, and crowds paying to be run through missions in the end-game outposts. Not so much changed.

If anything, they're biding their time for GW2, or working on stuff for the Hall of Monuments so that they can get the Champion of the Gods title (and all of the titles, equipment, pets, and minipets that come before it) in GW2. (Hmm... I just noticed that simply having EotN and speaking to the NPC inside the Hall, you get half of the Heritage armor set, and if you complete a campaign, you're only missing the Heritage headgear)

There are 4 links in your signature, and none of them look anything like N P C. Maybe you should specify which link it is for the OP.

Just an FYI. If you took the time to check the links you'd have found that the Mentor's Project goes to a thread that explains how to join the N P C channel.

It explains what to type to join the channel and that the initials stand for the New Players Council along with some other information.

Welcome!

Far from dead. High population server like Freedom and Virtue always have folks on. Medium pop servers are still very active, and at peak times like last Sunday evening all of the servers had their load levels "into the yellow." I play on Champion, a medium population server, and even during the day Mon-Fri there's people getting raids together and running good Tip teams and such. Good times.

Find the server forums, pop in, say hi, make some friends and find out what is going on. Most servers have global channels and schedule events that are open to everyone. Once you get active on the server channels and on the forums, your opportunities to team, raid and in general do stuff go up dramatically.

I can make a few additions, it is far more crowded in hero zones than villain zones. The top places to see other people are near the auction house, but those folks are typically busy and not looking to team =)

Positron gave some interesting statistics in his recent interview with ten ton hammer:
175,000 praetorian characters have been created since the launch of Going Rogue.

51% of all existing characters are heroes, 26% villain, 10% vigilante, and 13% rogue.

Best zones for success with finding teams in broadcast, are Atlas, Steel Canyon, Talos Island and Peregrine Island for heros, and Cap au Diable for villains.

Otherwise all the advice about finding your server's teaming channels is the way to go.

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

The game is definitely active. It was never in danger of dying and it's seen a significant increase in activity lately with some of the updates.

On the down side, I have no idea of the hardware requirements for DCUO but I do know that this game requires more powerful hardware than WoW. I hope your computer can handle it.

Why do I get the unsettling vibe that account hacking will soon be on the rise?

Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.

Pretty much what I expected. Didn't think Steel would be a hotspot, but I guess the Vault, WW and University all being close helps draw crowds.

I didn't read the article...but:

Praetorians are neither hero, villain, vigilante nor rogue.

51 + 26 + 10 + 13 ~=100.

...so those 175,000 Praetorians don't really exist?

Before you commit to buying this game play it with a trial. Despite having been around for years the graphics engine on this game has been upgraded recently and the minimum and suggested requirements are pretty much a match for DCUO. It's possible that the requirements to achieve maximum settings actually are greater than those of DCUO.

That other game has a little higher requirements but its single biggest problem is some ATI video cards which work here will not work there.

total kick to the gut

Why would you say this? What makes you think it may happen?

Never argue with stupid people. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
