Lethal Weapon doesn't need a reboot and Oh, God is best forgotten.

The only remake mentioned that made me do a double take was Lethal Weapon.
I heard they were going to remake Oh God, which I think I saw on HBO when I was 10. Joan Rivers was mentioned as playing George Burns part. This was in an internet article, which usually have more writers personal opinions and pipe dreams then facts.

I liked Oh, God, but I think the Almighty movies (Bruce & Evan) did a fairly decent job of being new versions of it.
Westworld doesn't really need an update, in my opinion. Despite its dated appearance and tech, it has a basic story that holds up well and has been done quite a lot. (Tech gets away from us! People die! Not again!)

I'd hold off on slamming some of them, but even given what I just wrote a minute ago in the Adaptations thread... There ARE some things that just do not need remaking. Can they be called 'adaptations'? Or does the word remake simply conjure something entirely different at times? I dunno.
I loved Westworld. Robots terrify me. Yul Brynner was smashing in that role, and indeed echoes of it - only echoes though - were in the Terminator movies.
hahahaha @ Betty White as God though. That would rule.

Ah well, perhaps the entire Terminator franchise can be rebooted now too......
If it stays close to Crichton's story, I could maybe see a Westworld remake, maybe.
On general principles, I wouldn't want to see a remake of Oh, God. Now given the suggestion of Betty White in the Burns role? Maybe, but highly unlikely though...

After the last Tarzan TV series, which was from Warner Brothers, I'm really not that thrilled by the news that they're looking to make another one.

If a remake stays true to Crichton that would be great, but.......well this is Hollywood and they are attempting to make a modern 3 stooges movie......, 'nuff said.

Westworld: Although I'd much rather see Larry Niven's "Dream Park" on the big screen, it's old enough that an updated remake would be a nice thing, as long as they leave Crichton's story alone. No "virtual reality" crap. No 3d gimmick. Just robots running amok with unlikely heroes worked then, it'll work now. One recommendation... keep Yul Brenner as Gunslinger, through the magic of CGI.
Lethal Weapon: They will never match the chemistry between Glover and Gibson. That chemistry is what made the franchise work. I say "leave it the hell alone."
The Wild Bunch: If it's done well, and faithfully. I'm all for it, but it'll be harder then the feat the Coen Brothers pulled with True Grit.
Oh, God: Why? George Burns is gone and it was cute once, as a one-trick pony.
And lastly, Tarzan. Sure, I'm all for that. But keep your dirty, filthy, nasty, pretentious, "re-imaging" paws away from it please. How bout this... have the screenwriters READ THE FREAKING BOOKS and then make a screenplay faithful to them. Don't update it, don't modernize it, don't re-image, don't combine several into one. Just adapt one of the several fine ERB novels for screen.

The thing about Westworld and Futureworld is that Delos was designed around themes that had been big in the movies; the Wild West, the future, medieval and Roman times. I think a modern version of Delos would need to be updated and, aside from Futureworld, we'd see a completely different set of themes. Say Spyworld, Superworld, Romanceworld (doing double duty as Pornworld), and maybe Horrorworld.
Edit: Giving it a little thought, there's really only one choice to play the Gunslinger. He'd need a little CGI massaging to de-age him for the role but really the only actor to step into Yul Brynner's shoes is Clint Eastwood.

I'll admit that was only a huge problem in the first book, but it was HUGE. "All Black Africans are cannibal savages" huge.

I don't know if I'd consider Tarzan a remake. Unless, it's like a remake of a remake of a remake or a remake of one specific movie, but really, it's Tarzan. 
It'd be like saying the last Robin Hood movie was a remake of Robin Hood: Prince of Theives.
Tarzan is just Tarzan. Seeing a new Tarzan movie is nothing suprising.
What really suprises me is Lethal Weapon! It sounds like they want a buddy cop movie, but want to give it a titlle people know. :/
Not saying I won't see it, but I think they'd be better off as doing it as a passing of the torch type of thing, instead of a remake, and yes, they'd need two actors with great chemistry.

Aside from the fact I think I'll be boycotting the cinemas due to the absolute lack of anything that seems to be not Darren Aranonofsky or Christopher Nolan in terms of originality, I think only Westworld stands a chance of surviving an update.
Lethal Weapon had a rare combination of actors and director that were all on the same page, and I don't see that being repeated easily. Bear in mind that was the prototype for every other cop buddy movie ever done, and finally got parodied in The Other Guys.
Interesting note about the Terminator; Arnold did indeed base his performance on Yul Brynner in Westworld in that manner, though he did teach himself to shoot a gun without blinking because that's what John Wayne did...go figure....
