Must-do's for every character? (Both sides)
The Television
http://www.fimfiction.net/story/36641/My-Little-Exalt
(This is for red side)
-Finish Kalinda's arc (Auto complete the Infected mish)
-Do the stupid Inventions Tutorial >.>
-Try and get the Gold Bricker's raptor pack
-Run all the sfs as I get to them
-Kill Ds And Scrappy as soon as possible
-Of course make sure not to out lvl each mayhem
-Do random prerequisites towards accolades when I can do them (Kill cold demons and such)
-Get Ashley's dad's temp in Darrin Wade's arc (Used to find it funny in pvp)
-Go back and get all the explorations in older zones once I get a travel power/and get the newer one's when I'm higher lvl
-Long list of arcs I like doing
I only have 1 badger, so none of that is about badging :P I'm just anal when it comes to actually lvling a toon the normal way.
(Also think I misread the point of this thread. That's more of what I do with every new toon)

Ds and Scrappy?
Ahh..
Midnighter Arc to unlock Cimerora.
Play my MA arcs!
Tracking Down Jack Ketch - ArcID #2701
Cat War! - ArcID #2788
Here's some I can think of offhand:
-Each Safeguard/Mayhem for the badges + Temporary powers -A Time Travel mission to unlock Ouroboros -The Cape Mission --The Tailor Missions |
Midnighter is the only necessary one.
The only thing that is absolutely essential is the Midnighter arc to open up Cimmeroa. At 35, a quick run to the Vangard base to join Vangard and be able to get Vangard Merits. Everything else is optional. But there are a lot of things I LIKE to do and try to complete. (blue side)
The first four safeguards.
Get the Spelunker badge (but can be done through Ouro)
The Task Forces needed for TF Commander.
The Stephanie Peebles arc in Striga to get the Wedding Ring Temp power.
Tobias Hanson in Striga to get the Warwolves temp power and a great start on the Defeat badges needed for the Atlas Medalion.
A run to get Shivans.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Ohhh, this is fun. For Heroes I:
-Street sweep or run the Sewers until level 6
-Go to the hollows and run Wincott's and Flux's content (usually lasts until level 11)
-Head over to Steel Canyon and run Safeguard missions until 15
-Run the Invention Tutorial at level 12, to start work on those level 15 IOs
-Go to Faultline and run as much content as I can (gets me to 17-18)
-Run more Safeguard missions until 20 and finish up Faultline
-Head to Striga and run Pebbles' and Long Jack's content
-Do my Cape and first Costume slot mission
-Safeguard missions until 25, then head to Croatoa
I tend to follow the "new zoned content" Hero side, using Safeguards to fill level gaps. Occasionally I'll branch out and do other content, but for the most part, that's exactly how every character goes through until about 30-ish.
Running the Striga content also enables your character to start the Moonfire Task Force (Burkholder). I've literally been on Moonfire teams where nobody had done that, and someone had to go find an alt so we could start the Task Force.

To the OP i make sure i get the 4 accolades for HP/End and Demonic/Magus on all chars.

Short Story I did: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=228383

Edit: Already corrected.
The only 'must-do' for me is the Vanguard arc. There are a lot of arcs I really enjoy in the level 30-40 range, I try to skip as much as possible before that. I pretty much never do the cape mission, I hate the Hollows, I like Faultline but rarely find groups there so I just skip it, and that's about it really.

As for me, my must does for every toon:
- Oro portal
- Vaguard Arc
- Cimerora access
- All four auto accolades if possible, at least the Portal Jockey and Atlas Medallion
@Sparky Jenkins || Freedom Server | Union Server
Main Hero: Inferno Sparky - Fire/Fire Blaster
Main Villain: Kerry Astrid - Fire/Cold Corruptor
At what levels is it feasible to get the auto-accolades? I think I've gotten two of the auto-accolades, but my main is 41 and IIRC some requirements for the others involve doing the Recluse Taskforce (Which requires Level 45..)
- I always hurry to do the first to Safeguards/Mayhems and get the packs before I end up outlevelling them.
- Villain side, it is always fun to do Doctor Creed's missions so you can make the Infected go boom!
- at level 15, ALL of my villains do "Oh, Wretched Man", without fail. That's easily my favorite arc
- hero side, at level 10 I always do the Midnighter Arc and cure the Lost. I also do the Invention Tutorial on both sides.
- I'll get the Goldbricker Rocket Pack and the Nictus Shard (at least for a mission) as long as I remember to do it. I still keep missing the hero side version with the Sky Raiders Pack.
- At 20 I will start running Tip missions and either change to Vigilante/Rogue, or renew my Hero/Villain Alignment to get the power. This will usually get me to 22-23 or so just from doing the missions.
I can usually manage to avoid having to go to Striga to get enough XP, and I avoid the Hollows like the plague. Usually, I will just pick on Contact for that level band and run through his missions. With Patrol XP it's usually plenty to get me into the 20s pretty quickly. And I won't keep playing the same character for a long time, I'll switch around, sometimes playing two lowbies in the same day. The main characters I've been levelling lately are my SoAs, so the villain missions are fresher in my mind than the hero ones, plus of course I have those unique SoA arcs.
So what would you say are the must-haves that you should have every character do? |
<.<
>.>
Several posters mentioned running the invention tutorial. I always skip this and haven't noticed any ill effects. What do you gain by running the tutorial so that you need it for every character?

Also, If I'm on redside, getting the Demonic Aura on my character as soon as they hit 25 is a must do for me.
@Sparky Jenkins || Freedom Server | Union Server
Main Hero: Inferno Sparky - Fire/Fire Blaster
Main Villain: Kerry Astrid - Fire/Cold Corruptor
For me, the things each of my characters will do: (eventually)
1. Flux's arc. I just love Frostfire.
2. Cape Mission
3. Stephanie Peebles arc.
4. The Croatoan arcs, all of them - they help a great deal towards the defeats needed for the Geas of the Kind Ones accolade power. This is my favorite accolade.
5. Anton Sampson's arcs. Plenty of Fakes to get a jump on the Unveiler badge, needed for Freedom Phalanx accolade.
6. Tina McIntyre - need the AVs for Dimensional Warder, required for Portal Jockey.
7. All the task forces - needed for Portal Jockey.
8. Midnighter arc to unlock Cimerora.
9. Welcome to Vanguard arc for Vanguard Merits.
10. Kill Dreck! Unai Kemen will give a timed version of the old Drecks mission which used to be untimed and farmed like crazy. My melee toons have always given me great joy in battling him. (need help most of the time with the way they've changed the game, and thus, my toons)

@Ukase
After you get a certain number of alts, repeating certain arcs gets boring eventually. But there's still some Goodies you will miss out on if you just power level to 50 in MA or whatever.
So what would you say are the must-haves that you should have every character do? And I don't mean LITERALLY "must-have to advance," just things that save you trouble later/are too useful to pass up, just plain desirable ASAP, etc.
Here's some I can think of offhand:
-Each Safeguard/Mayhem for the badges + Temporary powers
-A Time Travel mission to unlock Ouroboros
-The Cape Mission
