ScyFy should have picked it up. It would be better than the wrestling and cheesy monster movies they have now.

Heeeeeeey. Those monster movies have waaaay more class than wrestling.

No bad mouthing classics such as Mansquito, Ice Spiders and Mega Snake.

Good wholsome family entertainment....Quite Oscar and Emmy worthy and relevant to our times!!!!!!!

Are we talking Old Testament, Medieval, or Pre-Historic levels of Desecration???

Odd, EW seems to think Warner Bros TV would have to pay a licensing fee to use a character owned by Warner Bros.

First SyFy is cheap and would never pay what they want for the liscence.

Second, as annoying as Wrestling is that's probably their biggest money maker so they won't get rid of it.

Third the idiot in charge has gone on record saying they hate science fiction. So it's unlikely that programming will change back to a sci-fi focus until that twit gets fired.

As much as I'd like to see a good Wonder Woman TV show I'm afraid it being on SyFy would almost guarantee that it'd be poorly done and quickly cancelled. I'd like to think that a channel supposedly dedicated to sci-fi could actually do a show like this well, but I'd have little confidence in it from the start. I think there's a reason there hasn't been a Wonder Woman TV since the mid 70s on any network and that reason is no one seems to want to give it a serious chance with a reasonable budget.

The article Knight_Marshal linked to mentioned that DC may be part of the problem here. I'm not exactly sure what the Warner Brothers / DC comics business relationship is so I don't know what the licensing fees involved are. My guess is that the cost was not going to be zero dollars so that had to factor into the equation somehow. Any excuse a network can use for a new show potentially costing too much is going to be used against it, which seems to be the case here.

I understand DC deserves to be paid licensing fees for their character property, but if they are charging too much then no one will pay for it. It seems like DC would be willing to cut their rates as much as possible in return for all the free long term advertising a modern Wonder Woman show on TV would represent.

Wait a minute... are you saying the suits at SyFy actually hate Sci-fi?
Actually that could explain why that network is so generally suck-tastic right now.

I realize that running a TV network is just a job regardless of the programming but you'd think that the people running a specifically targeted network like SyFy would at least not outright -hate- the kind of shows they produce. *shrugs*

They also compared Wonder Woman to Bionic Woman, like they were both only shows from the 70s when Wonder Woman has been a popular comic since the 70s. The two aren't the same, but that site seems to have a loose understanding of facts...

It's like the people running Cartoon Network wanting to stop showing cartoons. Oh, wait...

(at least they're failing miserably at that, every live action show they air is a complete bomb)

I wonder if they will use the more common outfit, the updated outfit (open jacket and pants), or something else that is close to the Wonder Woman design since the common outfit seems kind of outdated and it might not fit the whole Wonder Woman image since Amazons seem to be the ultimate feminists.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

Presuming that a different WB company or division owns the rights, it would make perfect sense. Also a good way to shift income, presuming your transfer pricing is up to snuff.

I'd keep the leotard look, but give her one of those Roman/Greek style armorerd skirts made with leather straps to go over it, to combine her original skirt look with her more modern one.
The straps would be dark blue leather, trimed with silver, with a silver star at the end of each one, to keep the basic colors and pattern of the lower half of her outfit.

Actress Tanit Pheonix was in Toronto last week promoting Death Race 2. She was on a local morning radio show and discussed how she had been approached and has an upcoming meeting to discuss playing Wonder Woman. She mentioned there were a lot of woman up for the role.

my guess the updated duds.

How about Lina Carter's daughter for the role?

Separate divisions are treated as different companies. All major corporations involved in entertainment do this, which sets up weird things such as Disney subsidiary ABC bidding for Disney products and losing.

That would be Bonnie Hammer. She went on record as stating she doesn't understand or like science fiction and she called fans of science fiction geeks. Why she was put in charge of the Sci-Fi Network is a mystery. She's also the one who brought wrestling to Syfy, which has sadly had great ratings. Once she was promoted to president of all NBC cable, she canceled excellent ratings-winners like Monk for no apparent reason. Then Dave Howe, who replaced her as Syfy president, said the channel needed to appeal to "non-geek" science fiction lovers. That's why he had the logo changed. Apparently he always hated the little Saturn logo as being too nerdy.

Well I've been waiting, on and off, for a new Wonder Woman TV series for decades now so obviously I'll be first in line to watch anything that makes it to the TV screen even remotely Wonder Woman related.

It sounds like (from the link provided) that they are going to take a more real world tact with her, making her more like a "semi-realistic batman-like crimefighter" instead of a "Amazonian superpowered superheroine". That could work but obviously I'll need to see it before I'm sold on the idea. I'm sure some people will hate the thought of that concept instantly, but I'll give it a chance before I judge it. It might not end up being anything like the Wonder Woman that we're used to, but the show itself might be good in its own right. I guess we'll see.

So... it'll be this. Not what I think of first when I think of Wonder Woman.

Yeah if this new NBC show goes 100% completely in that "no powers" direction then I wouldn't be terribly happy either. But I find myself torn between getting a version of Wonder Woman on TV that I might not particularly like versus no Wonder Woman at all.

What's the worse that can happen? This new series will suck and be quickly cancelled. How would that be any different from the last 30+ years without a Wonder Woman series on TV? Like I said before I'll give this new show a chance. Who knows, they might come up with some "reworking" of the character that turns out to be interesting in its own right.

An unpowered Wonder Woman on television puts a bullet in the head of any proposed Justice League movie. A powered Wonder Woman, not so much.

Maybe, but we really still know almost nothing about this show so far. Far too early to cry doom just yet.

For example this article says "Kelley’s take on the property will be more serious, and less campy than the 1978 series that starred Linda Carter, but he has still found a way to incorporate Wonder Woman’s signature truth lasso, her bullet-deflecting cuffs, and her invisible plane." Sounds like some kind of "powered" version of Wonder Woman to me.

Again I'm not going to get too excited about this either way until we see more about it. I'm sure no matter what form this thing takes there will be people who like or dislike it for dozens of reasons. I'm willing to give it a chance before I assume the worst.
