Wonder Woman Tv show fails to lasso a network

I heard they are doing a remake of this version of Wonder Woman.

Clearly this is proof-positive that Wonder Woman has never been a character that was simple to produce. The Cathy Lee Crosby nightmare was perfection compared to the first attempt to create a Wonder Woman TV show back in 1967. I'll provide the link to the info if you want to be nauseated by it, but here's some pics from that pilot that pretty much speak for themselves:

Bleeding Cool claims to have read a draft of Kelley's pilot script and describes it as "a slightly goofy comedy-drama about a hotshot business woman who moonlights as a superheroine, packed with Girl Power pop-songs and including the awkward phrase 'You go, girl'." Also, Etta Candy from the Golden Age comics is somehow being updated for the show.

Basically, it sounds like a cross between the 1967 and 1974 TV Wonder Woman adaptations. Just what post-Buffy the Vampire Slayer television needs!

If it weren't Wonder Woman, people would probably like it. Boston Legal was one of the funnest and funniest shows ever made. They weren't even pretending it was a realistic lawyer drama, just a platform for rants and silliness. But making this about WW is going to generate levels of hate Kelley has never seen before.

Well I have no delusions that this new show may end up being, how shall I say, less than "perfect". But I'm going to give it a chance no matter how bad it sounds because this would still be the first Wonder Woman show on the air in 32 years.

Obviously I hope it ends up being a watchable show regardless. I wouldn't mind it having some comedic elements (along the lines of what Whedon did with Buffy) but if they go for total "self-spoofing silliness" it'll be very disappointing.

It'd be weird if it ends up being one of those "it's so bad it's good" shows. I'm not looking for Shakespearean level drama from this, but I do hope they at least "try" to make it semi-serious.

I like Animated Universe's compromise: the jet is ultra tech and she uses it for passengers. I really would like for her to fly. Barring that, at least "ride on air currents" which pre crisis Wonder Woman could do, but Wonder Girl seemed to do more than anything.

I have to assume this show is not going to have a big enough budget to have "cutting edge movie level" special effects. It would probably be easier for them to have her occasionally flying around in a hi-tech jet than to have her flying around freeform like Superman. I agree it'd be cool for her to do that - I'm just thinking they'll likely be trying to save their special effects budget as much as possible for things other than flying around too often.

Why even bother to call this Wonder Woman?

This is proof that DC can't work with Hollywood to make good representations of their characters, outside of Batman and Superman, and even that is hit or miss.

Eh, I for one am willing to wait to learn more before assuming a very early "one sentence" summary of the show has nailed exactly what it's all about.

Sure it could end up being as crappy as that sounds, but it's really way too early to know for certain. All I'm saying is that I've seen plenty of shows I ended up liking that didn't sound so hot at first. *shrugs*

I agree that doesn't sounds incredibly reassuring. On the other hand it's so early in the process that I'm sure that script is going to evolve (for better or worse) before it appears on TV.

Normally I'm pretty critical about shows in general. If you're familiar with my history of posts on this forum you might be aware of that. But as I said earlier in this thread I've been more or less waiting 32 YEARS for a new Wonder Woman show. I actually remember seeing Lynda Carter on TV as Wonder Woman back when those were NEW shows!

With that said I'm going to be watching (at the very least) the pilot of this new show even if we learn they've cast Betty White in the title role and she's fighting mutant space ninja turtle Nazis from planet Omicron Persei 8.

I think I've gone blind.....

Although you have to admit that Betty as Wonder Woman would be funny for at least a quick YouTube video or SNL sketch.

Actually that sounds like a fun movie.
