Wonder Woman Tv show fails to lasso a network

I look forward to see what he has in mind and hope it succeeds because I like superhero shows to succeed even if I am not interested in watching each and every one of them.

In the meantime it provides a lot of fodder for humor like blending Wonder Woman, Ally McBeal and Boston Legal.

Sure this show might turn out to be "Wonder McBeal" and if so we'll probably get a lot of milage ripping it apart. It might not be the type of "entertainment" we wanted, but it'll be noteworthy nevertheless.

Besides for all we know there'll be a race of aliens who'll like this show and we'll have to keep making it in order to keep them from getting angry and attacking us 1,000 years from now.

Now we just have to wait and see who they cast.

That's no fun!

I suggest we offer up our own suggestions.

In that light I submit Rhona Mitra since she was on his Boston law shows. I'd give her about a 1% chance to actually get the part but I still throw her name out there.

Yeah I'd give Rhona about a 1% chance too. Not that she's technically bad for the part, I just don't see it happening.

My guess is that they'll go for a no-named actress aged around 25-30. If what they said about this pilot is true there were problems with the budget for this show being an issue in the first place. I figure they'll try to trim as much money as possible by finding someone who won't cost them that much money to play the part.

Frankly in light of the huge legacy Lynda Carter is going to have over this new show they're probably better off with a fresh face regardless. People are going to draw comparisons between Lynda and the new actress filling her boots no matter what. Might as well open the gates to someone willing to tackle that with as little baggage as possible.

Sounds like some kind of "powered" version of Wonder Woman to me.

Again I'm not going to get too excited about this either way until we see more about it. I'm sure no matter what form this thing takes there will be people who like or dislike it for dozens of reasons. I'm willing to give it a chance before I assume the worst.
Seriously though, do we really need the invisible plane? Just let her fly like Superman.

I always thought the invisible plane was silly until the recent animated movie where she gets it from Owlman(?) in the alternate Earth. At least in that one you didn't see her sitting in the air flying around.

I'll throw in Odette Yustman, since Sarah Lancaster is already busy with Chuck, she looks the part, and judging by the quality of work she's gotten since Cloverfield, she could use it.

Yeah that showed how she got it and would retain it for JLU episodes, but still.......its just not needed for a live action show. Where is she going to store it? How is she going to fuel it? Etc etc etc. Her strength and durability rival Superman's so she should be able to fly around the world on her own power like he can and not need the jet.

Just let her fly like Superman.

Or, spend several seasons coming to terms with her birthright and being unable to fly at all because of angst?

Eh? Eh?

Yeah I've never been too much of a fan of the invisible plane/jet either. But my guess is that based on the following phrase used in the article calling her "a vigilante crimefighter and successful corporate executive in Los Angeles" many of her traditional "magic items" (tiara, lasso, bracelets, and invisible jet) are going to end up being more tech-based like Batman's gadgets. As a "corporate executive" we could assume she'll be financially well off and able to afford tech-toys like Bruce Wayne. If this is the case then the invisible jet could be easily be "explained" as being more like a super-stealth 007-like jet that she keeps in a hidden corporate hanger.

Again that's just a guess based on the nearly zero-info we have about this. Hopefully they'll spill some real details as soon as they can.

Problem with her magic items going tech is that it pretty much would change the character completely. She is supposed to have the strength, speed, stamina, etc of the gods similar to Captain Marvel/Shazam. So if she is just a tech user like Batman then she would likely not have the speed-reflexes-timing-hand eye coordination needed to deflect bullets or beams with her bracelets. How would the lasso of truth work if it were tech based? By electro shocking the person into telling the truth? Seems like torture and I doubt that would last for long on the networks.

They could have it where she comes from her homeland of the Amazons, armed with her magic weapons, etc. and decides that in order to effectively fight evil in "man's world" that she must learn the ways of "man's world" and that could include creating and running a business empire that she in turn can use its resources in her fight. Given that she and the other amazons are supposedly immortal she could have left her homeland decades ago and spent that time building her corporate empire. This could also be used to show her fighting the Ratzi's in the 40's then returning to her business for a time after the war and then emerging again the present to pick up the fight again.

UPDATE: “Wonder Woman” has lassoed a network!

Quote:
NBC has given a pilot commitment to the “Wonder Woman” remake, according to Deadline.com.

Coming from producer David E. Kelley (”Ally McBeal,” “Boston Legal”), the modern reboot of the iconic superhero is among the high-profile pilot pick-ups announced Friday by new NBC entertainment president Bob Greenblatt.

This reinvention of the Diana Prince/Wonder Woman character (made famous on TV in the ’70s by Lynda Carter) is described as “a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. and a successful corporate executive … a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life,” according to Deadline.

Kelley recently said he wasn’t giving up on his plans to bring “Wonder Woman” back to TV, despite initially experiencing a setback when a majority of the networks passed on the expensive project.

“I think the likelihood is we’ll see it next year,” Kelley told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m being optimistic, but I don’t think I’m being unrealistic.”
The background of it makes me hate it already. vigilante crime fighter in L.A.? WTF! Gus?

I couldn't stand watching her grotesque lip implants in Underworld 3.

Seriously Knight_Marshal: You bothered to spend a few minutes cut-n-pasting a quote about the show without realizing we've already been talking about it for like the last 20 posts. Who tosses quotes into threads without spending at least 10-15 seconds reading the last few posts to see what's going on? WTF! indeed.

Well for what it's worth I wouldn't mind if they kept her personal items "magical" but redo the jet as a cool new super-stealth deal that has nothing to do with being literally "invisible" like the semi-cheesy 70s era cartoons made it out to be. I think casting Wonder Woman as a "corporate executive" could open up the possibility of mixing some of her "traditional" Amazon/magic abilities with modern high-tech things.

io9 had an interesting article about why Captain America is easier to do than Wonder Woman. I thought it was a good read.

Actually I looked at the last page and all I saw was people talking about tech gear vs magic gear.

Hey no worries. Just poking a little fun...

But then again why would anyone be bothering to talk about something as off-topic as Wonder Woman "tech gear vs magic gear" in a thread that technically started out as a "Wonder Woman show fails to get started again" thread? I realize this thread's original title is now pretty misleading given how things progressed since yesterday, but still.

Why can't she have both magic and tech equipment? Is there some law I'm unaware of that says she can't use both? Why does she have to be restricted to one or the other.

Wrestling has a fanbase that will follow it wherever it goes. It's a shame more of the shows that we like don't inspire that kind of loyalty.

Too many people don't want to think when they watch TV.

[edit] it occurred to me that may have come off as a dig but I meant that in the sense that gameshows, wrestling and comedies are easy to watch because you don't need to pay attention.

That is why we get quirky detectives in detective shows to keep people's attention.

This is true, but there's also the fact that it's so bad it's fun to watch. We can all relate and think of of a movie or some other production that became a cult classic because it was so bad, so cheesy, so whatever that we just love watching them over and over.

Hmmm...I'd love to see a new Wonder Woman show. And I've usually enjoyed DK's shows. A little bit worried with how they might go with it though.

I don't know if I want to see a NEW Wonder Woman. I want to see the super strong, durable, can fly, deflect bullets Wonder Woman. What we've seen in animated movies would be great.

If it turns out she's just a female Batman with the name Wonder Woman, I would have to wonder why they don't just call the show Batwoman.

Will just have to wait and see. I have faith the writing will be good, it's more a question of, will this be Wonder Woman or will this be Wonder Woman in name only.
