  1. Shame to go out in his prime like that. He made an epic action hero.
  2. He was always my best source of news about movies and tv shows. I miss him.

    Where's Wall-E?

160 is a MSE "mouse" droid from Star Wars
  4. One thing I hate seeing in a movie about super heroes is when they try to tone them down and make them look mundane.

The ENTIRE twilight franchise not just turns vampires into sparkling emo freaks, but it also turns the entire fan base into irrational idiots.

Target audience or not, there just something seriously wrong with people with how blown up this franchise as become.
And this is different than any other fandom how?
  6. I think people who bash Twilight need to get a grip. It falls in the genre of Teen Romance, not Gothic Horror. It's like bashing Micky Mouse for not being a realistic portrayal of rodents. You need to consider the target audience.
  7. Since Netflix is planning a major price hike if you rent DVDs and use their streaming service, it's good they are adding content to the streaming service. The only thing I watch on their streaming service is Doctor Who - I'm almost caught up and I was going to cancel the streaming part when they start charging separately for it. Now I might have to postpone that.

I saw it. I immediately noticed it was the same story as "Phoenix", a short story by Clark Ashton Smith, first published in 1954. I think it's rather scandalous they didn't credit it in the movie.

Currently the audience meter show more than half liked it. The difference between the critics' score and the audience score on this particular movie is much wider than normal.
  11. I saw it. I liked it. I don't trust Rotten Tomatoes any more. I think a lot of critics have a fundamental disconnect with movies that have heavy fantasy or science fiction elements.

I didn't see this movie expecting a heavy plot, bravura acting performances, deep philosophical subtexts, or a commentary on social issues. I just wanted to see the spectacle of a superhero visiting alien planets, fighting space monsters, and winning the girl. I'm not hard to please.

They didn't doubt themselves, they just felt sorry for themselves.

So Green Lantern was entertaining to me because it was about a super hero. Not about some emo guy who just happened to have powers.
I think that's the main difference between DC and Marvel comics.

Movie trailers used to be more cryptic about what the plot twists were, especially for monster/horror movies. Go youtube the original Alien trailer. You don't even get to see what they look like. No one knew till they saw the movie.
I Alien they feed you tasty bits throughout the movie: the derict ship, the fossilized pilot, the egg chamber, the face hugger.

What I don't like about the Super 8 trailer is people getting dragged across the ground or things flying through the air but the camera just manages to misses it or it's just off the edge of the screen. There's no evidence of anything, it's all just editing. You don't even get a sense of what the movie's about: supervillains, ghosts, monsters, aliens, experiment gone awry, my cats when I don't feed them on time, or what.

It's gotten good reviews but the trailers did not make me want to see it. It looked like they tease you the whole movie and don't tell you what's doing it until the end.

I've seen a few green clouds. Here they usually they indicate a strong chance of hail.

I was watching an episode of The Clone Wars animated series the other day and it struck me how different Anakin's character in the animated show was from the character portrayed in the movies. Their personalities were so different I wouldn't have known they were even the same person. It felt like Lucas wasn't satisfied with his portrayal in the movies and decided to rewrite the character. The petulant kid from the movies was replaced by someone much more mature and confident and entrusted with great responsibilities. The scene I watched showed Padme irritated they couldn't spend more time together and Anakin telling her how duty must come first - it was a complete reversal of their roles in the movies.

    Thundergod

In the movie, the Aesir themselves weren't Scandinavian, they were a bunch of aliens who descended on Trondheim (Norway) in 965 to stop a Frost Giant invasion.

If you want to nitpick the gods' appearances, you should start with Thor himself. In mythology he was described with red hair, not blonde.

Personally I just liked the action, I thought the rest was a downer.

The emotion of losing the mother, the scumminess of the stepfather, the loss of the little sister, and then the arrival at the mental institution all play very well and are beautifully shot and genuinly emotional. As soon as they switch to night club/brothel-mode it starts to break-down. The action sequences, while awesome, then feel forced and thrown-in, and just become a distraction from actual plot.
I enjoyed the movie. But I can see why a lot of people didn't like it. It's the dichotomy of two vastly different stories: the real-world drama and the fantasy action. Someone might like one or the other but probably not both.

Just as you thought the action scenes were a distraction, those like me who went to see it expecting a light-hearted, anime-style action movie probably didn't appreciate the disturbing real-world story with a tragic ending.

Unfortunately bad things like that still happen. When I was a paralegal I worked on lawsuits stemming from both wrongful incarceration and rampant sexual abuse of patients.

Hard to argue with those choices, but if Data was one that we wish were real then his brother Lore should be on the list of ones we glad are not.
Daleks aren't really robots. They're mutants riding inside small tanks.
