I completely know how you feel. Im sitting here thinking "now what?" I havent touched a console game since I started playing CoH. The last MMO I played was Everquest, 8 years ago. I came here during 3rd wave beta. I remember reading the old boards and all the speculation and news about how the game was coming along. Eagerly awaiting the day I could play. I wasnt disappointed.

Paragon City is my escape. If Im having a bad day or dont feel like I cant do anything right. I could just log on, punch some baddie in the face and rescue a citizen who then proceeded to thank me for my good deeds. Good triumphs over evil. I save the day and all is right in the world. It was a great way to make me feel a little better. CoH has always been a constant. Always just there when I wanted to let my imagination run wild and relive those childhood dreams of being a super hero.

Thank you devs, you all are the best. You will never truly know how much this game meant to me. I knew it had to come to an end at some point. I just never imagined it would happen like this. This game and the people who made it happen, developers, staff and fans, deserve better than this.
  2. Surely it would make more sense to sell CoH off then to just close it down right? DC Universe and Champions are still up and running and CoH HAS to generate more income than both those games right? Isnt Everquest still running and that game is how old?

Someone must want to buy this game?
  3. Umm...what?

My 5 year relationship came to a very abrupt end last night and today I read this news from out of nowhere.

This has been a very bad week.
  4. As a fellow premium player, I cant say Ive had a similar experience as yourself. That said, I do have enough Paragon Rewards earned that Im not locked out of much save for the itrials. The funny thing is, I dont use the AE, I dont use inventions, I dont pvp and I have zero interest in Praetoria or the trials.

Freedom has been a great thing for me! I can pick and choose just what I want to play.

    I do sort of agree with this statement though;

I feel I have TOO much for not paying. I would go back to subscribing but there just isnt that much incentive for me to. I feel VIPs should be getting all sorts of stuff for their subscription that make me want to subscribe but as it is right now, I dont feel that. Im not sure what NCSoft can offer players that would make me switch back at this point.
  5. SOLD!!!

I have a couple of characters who will be making extensive use of this costume pack. I love retro, golden and silver age stuff.

Just curious, are the glowing helm details in the female pic exclusive to that hat option or can they be used with other helms/hats?

I have a robot character and those details would be excellent for him but Im not so sure the hat part would work. Depends on how metallic I can make it.

Mind you, its not a big deal. Im sold no matter what
  6. "When people like me point out that around 90%-95% of the game is soloable and us teamers like having some content and things to do set aside for us, we're called everything but red-headed stepchildren (and sometimes worse), treated like we are the ones who are being pig-headed and inflexible."

I dont post very often and I certainly dont like sticking my nose in these discussions but this comment baffled me. Sorrry, I dont mean to jump on you as well.

100% of the game is teamable so what do you want set aside for teamers? There is nothing in the game you cant team up for, so nothing is being withheld from "teamers".

And just for the record, I dont care about trials. I have zero interest in them. Im not mad at them and am happy there is something for people who like raiding. Im also glad that people who dont like that style of gameplay now have an option with Dark Astoria.

I think the shoes are unique and others have been making requests for scale textured briefs. I do agree however that the overall combination is "interesting".
  9. Itrials may have been more interesting and appealing if they didnt have a connected story line much like task forces. Not all TFs in game are against the Rikti or Nemesis. They each have their own differing story involving different enemy groups. They should have applied that logic to trials. One trial against Praetorians, another involving the Shard, another against Mot (without Praetorian involvement). Each trial making players FEEL like theyre going up against the BIGGEST threats facing the CoH universe.

Two things are needed for comic books - good art and good stories. One alone wont sell books and keep them afloat. While the art in CoH continually improves, it does seem that the story quality has declined and stagnated - Praetoria, Praetoria, Praetoria zzzzz. Someone mentioned they felt this started happening around Going Rogue but I think I started to notice it around the 5th Column VS Council nonsense. That seemed forced and unnecessary however, it didnt continually get forced down our throats constantly like Praetoria is.

Sadly it feels like when Bendis took over writing for The Avengers. Forget what came before me, I want to tell MY stories and who cares about characterization and continuity.
  10. Masks - lots of em!
Think of early Marvel Girl from The X-Men
    Huntress
    Alchemiss from Freedom Force
    Green Hornet
    Green lantern
Some should have eyes whited out. These should also be able to use with masks with hair options.

High collars without having to use a cape. See Wonder Man above as an example.

Thigh high boots for men. This is quite common in comics especially during the golden/silver age.

The Rocketeer/Adam Strange incl jetpacks & laser pistols

    Belts with symbols on them

    Mystical amulet/necklace looking neck items.

    Boots
Different leather boot styles such as Superman for example
Take a look at Black Canary's short boots from Justice League Unlimited. This style was common in the golden age.
    Elf style "shoes"

    Gloves
short wrist length gloves that can be used with full tights (currently short gloves in game can either be used with no sleeves or the sleeves come down to elbow length, leaving the forearm exposed and looking unfinished)

Hairstyles of the eras, especially golden age.

It was very common for "briefs" to be worn over tights for men. This is do-able in CoH but only if the briefs are a different colour. Would be nice if the briefs had a texture to them allowing you to make them the same colour as tights and not having them blend together.

Heck you could look at Freedom Force for a lot of examples of golden/silver age costume ideas. Not saying copy them but they definitely had a finger on the pulse of those eras.

Thats all I got for now.
  11. Have to echo what a few others have said - not a fan of the break dance move but otherwise LOVE the set. Been waiting for staff fighting since beta and regardless of that one move, the rest of the set rocks and Ill be buying it. Already have a character created for it, just waiting for it to arrive.
  12. - A Savage Land zone
    - An Atlantean Zone
    - More Golden Age costume options/styles (really looking forward to the retro/sci-fi set)
    - More Silver Age costume options/styles
    - Utilize Cimeroa more, with all these heroes trying for incarnate/god powers, wouldnt it make sense to use the Greek/Roman mythology of the zone and implement the Gods. Missions from Zeus for example. Fighting Hades. Trials of Hercules.
    - More powersets are always welcome
    - since we are now getting wolves and dogs, an animal based mastermind comes to mind.
  13. Thanks again. I figured out what the problem was and got it installed. After that 3.0 and 4.0 installed no problem. Once that was done CoH had no problems installing and launching.

    Its good to be back!
  14. Thanks for the response Hyperstrike, much appreciated.

I have done the steps you suggested but received the same error message.
  15. Im hoping someone here might be able to give me an assist.

I havent been able to play CoH ever since it shifted over to the NCsoft Launcher. I have never been able to get it to launch as it were.

Anyhow, I am trying it again however, I am having difficulty with installing the .NET frameworks. I have .NET 1.1 installed on my machine but receive an error message every time I try to download .NET 2.0.

    I get the following message;

Error 25015. Failed to install assembly 'C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Mic rosoft.VisualBasic.Compatability.dll' because of system error: 0x80131107

I use windows xp and would appreciate any help. Hopefully, once I get past this hurdle, I wont have any problems downloading .NET 3.0 and 4.0...sigh.

Interesting you should mention this because I think that is another one of those bugs that could actually be turned into a cool game mechanic.

For example, a player runs through the story arc of Dark Astoria and successfully completes the final mission - what happens? The fog and gloom is removed from Dark Astoria and the sun shines once again. I think it would be a great way for a player to feel heroic and like they actually changed something in game. Of course, this all resets back to the fog so others can complete it as well but I think the effect would still be there. Much like Recluses' Victory and how the zone changes. I think they missed the boat with not implementing more of that mechanic throughout the game.

So why can they not continue that trend? Why does every revamp HAVE to tie into a massive, multi issue arc? Why cant Dark Astoria, Boomtown, Perez Park have its own story to tell with missions, TFs tied to the events of that particular zone?

Wouldnt this be an easier way of adding new content than always creating new and connected stories?
  18. While not all that interested in steampunk, this does look like a nice booster. Much better than the last couple. Cant wait to see what people come up with using it.

    New zone?!

Does anyone remember the story reason for the upgrade of Faultline and how it tied into the overall arching story at that time?

I dont understand why it has to be one or the other when it comes to revamping older zones while working on the on-going story/adding new zones what have you. Why not work on new content that moves the Praetoria story forward but at the same time throw in a few contacts, missions, TF what have you into Dark Astoria for example, at the same time that focus on the story of that zone? Why does it have to tie in with the overall story? When I run story arcs in Independence Port, they dont tie in with Arachnos, Orobourus, Praetoria etc.

Crotoa for example is a zone with its own unique story that doesnt tie into anything else going on in Paragon City story wise. Its its own self-contained story. I would like to see that method applied to revamping older zones. Give them some unique flavour that isnt Praetoria/Incarnate driven.

As for the amount of work involved revamping older zones while adding new ones - youre telling me its more work to add contacts and such to an already existing, created zone then it is to create one entirely from scratch? I find that odd.
  20. I admit, I didnt read this entire thread but are both these TFs Praetoria based or involve Praetoria?
  21. Congrats to all the winners! Lots of excellent costume designs in this thread.

So call it a /mehquit. There's nothing in this issue that interests me, and seeing every new art asset, map, enemy group, mechanic and power being poured into TFs and Raids really does take the shine of the existing game that I do normally enjoy. The likelihood is that I21, at least, will be more of the same, because they need to get more trials out there before everyone starts complaining that they have nothing to do with their 50+ characters. The devs can barely support CoV in addition to CoH (hence the increasingly boring emphasis on co-op content that has spilled over into the Trials) so how do they expect to feed the need for Incarnate content in addition to that?

Put it a different way. Someone in the beta forums (I forget who) summarised the current direction of the game as "We're sorry you don't like large team content, because we really want you to like large team content." For the first time I'm really wondering what the game will look like in a year's time, and whether or not it's still going to be a game I want to spend time on.

And if I21 won't be 'all team/trial all the time' then why is that all we're hearing about? Answer: becaue they really really want us to like large team content. Add in I22 (not an unreasonable possibility) and you're looking at 2012 before they've got this established, never mind whatever comes next.

It's not about me wanting the powers but not wanting to grind for them. I have 2 50s, both naturals. Neither of them really want to be throwing giant AoEs of godly death around, or have a Praetorian ghost/spirit/whateverthehellitis following them around. It's more about a shift in the culture of the game, which I think we're already seeing, with all the forum trash talk about people not wanting to 'work' for their rewards. Nah, not for me. If I wanted to run the same stuff over and over again for epic loot I'd be playing the 800lb gorilla, not City of Heroes.

Thank you, this is exactly how I feel.
  23. Wow...I agree, The Underdog is a really well done character. Nice work!
