OP, try out something completely new to you. If you have even the slightest bent toward RP then come up with a concept that you like rather than picking a powerset. That way you have an idea that is interesting to you and fun, and then you can fit the mechanics to your idea.

If you haven't tried one before, check out masterminds. They are a completely different animal from the other ATs and can be a lot of fun. Between pet management, secondary powerset and maybe even a couple attacks in your primary, you can end up with a lot going on. I recommend sandolphins keypad binds from the sticky in the MM forum if you do end up checking one out. Maybe a demons summoner/thermal hellfire themed character or something.

Basically, the general answer boils down to: Check out something you don't already have in your list. or, reroll something you have now and enjoy a lot, but with a slight variation. Switch from Katana to broadsword or twin blades, that kinda deal. Or... let your sub expire and take a week or two off, that can really help my enjoyment of the game every now and again.

Try a new AT and build for concept over power-gaming. Most of your builds fall fall into the classic power-gamer types: Stone/Fire Tank, SS/WP Brute, Fire/Kin Controller.

Try something new (Dom or MM are my suggestions as they are very unique), something that is team oriented (Def or Corr), and build for concept with a cohesive back story and design for the character. Build your character by choosing a primary and secondary that are new and unfamiliar with little to no concern for how well they will farm/solo.

Yea, it's certainly happened to me. Too much of anything eventually leads to burnout of some form or another. What's always worked for me in the game's I've played over the years is to just take some time off from gaming and then come back with a more 'fresh' mind.

Back when I played for several hours most days I'd have to take a couple weeks off every other month or so.

.
This is pretty much what I do. Whenever I feel burnt out on the game I just take time off it.

1. Yes, quite often. These days the maximum amount of time I can keep my attention on CoX is about 2-3 consecutive months.
2. This may not be a optimal suggestion for you but I personally just cancel my sub for a while. Go on vacations/trips. Play some old games I haven't touched for a while. Work on hobbies. Go on a DVD/Netflix/Hulu watching binge. Whatever works really. I'll only re-activate my accounts if I feel a real urge to play again and that usually takes anywhere between one to three months. I guess a lot of extended breaks help keep me from being completely burned out. *shrugs*

I find taking a break always works for me. Ideally, cancelling my sub so I'm not tempted to log on every now and then, this way the desire to play builds over time until I can't stay away from my sweet, sweet MMO crack.

A good old table-top game of D&D is my palate cleanser. =)

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

I agree with some other folks. I got a 6 month subscription for Going Rogue, which will be up in Feb. I'll probably let my sub lapse at that time, do other stuff for a while, then when new content has built up I'll be back and I'll try the new stuff out.

When I get bored I usually end up switching what I have been doing for a while. For example, when I get bored of doing PvE, I will begin to PvP for a while. Even if it is not your thing to do just give it a try and it will seem like a totally different part of the game. The PvP and the PvE community are two different animals. When I get bored of PvPing then I work on mids and try to put together new builds for both PvE and PvP. Then I will focus all my attention on the build I just did and try to get it finished. I have done many AE missions for the tickets to get the recipe rolls, then I will do TF/SF for the merits to buy more recipes, then I take the recipes and build them and sell the ones I dont need and play the market.

Think of a deliberately gimped powerset, and come up with a decent story for it, and then play it (I play a mind/psi dom with the full fighting pool, and no travel powers, and she runs in and will scrap too, surprisingly, kick sometimes comes in handy!)

You may need some break from this game. I've taken 3 breaks already and now I am still very addicted.

You can try other games and I bet eventually you'll come back to this game (again and again!).

By the way, why is Mind Troller or Dom "boring"? lol

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Wow, I usually have to at least get up and have a snack around week 2. You have a hell of an attention span.

Apart from taking breaks (which, as other people have noted, is often a good idea) I find that just finding a character that clicks can make me jump back into the game enthusiastically. This is usually some nebulous combination of a good costume and two powersets that work well together and look cool, which is a total crapshoot. I don't enjoy Regeneration much on my MA/Regen Scrapper, but I love how it works with my Spines/Regen Stalker.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

Fella in my SG does a lot of "concept builds" to add flavor and test things.

His most recent is a speedster, like Flash.

Now, it's not for power-gamers. Don't expect the concepts to become uber. However, his character has maxed speed, Flurry, and other speed-based attacks over more utilitarian attacks. Again, its to break up the duldrums, not make a toon you will IO and enshrine.

So, speedster, Temp Weapon Guy, No Attack just Buff or Debuff builds, etc.

I have serious altitis. I make alts. Then I make more alts. I was like this in another game, too, where I had three accounts so I could have one of each class on each faction plus a couple open slots for bank alts and the like. (All now deleted.)

Couple things:

1. Players, more than content, are fun. I like to meet people and play with them. Except I get burned out on socializing.
2. Play different games within Cox. Spend a week marketeering. Spend a week roleplaying. Do things that aren't all the same.

YMMV.

I have run into this problem a lot, generally there are two things that happen.

1. A make a new toon then get uber addicted to teh game until its level 50.
2. I just take a "break" i simply dont play for a few days or a play a lot less.

There is also the 3rd option: cancel account. I did this once for what i thought would be forever, that only lasted a few months then once i came back this game was awesome again.

Here's a very different idea: make an AE arc!

When I get a bit bored I start a new one and, because I'm something of a perfectionist, I end up spending many, many hours working out dialogue, map choice, etc. Near the end I'm usually tearing out my hair and looking for reasons to NOT work on it (like by posting on the forums >.>), but when it's done, I feel great about having done it.

AND THEN... when I finally get back into playing the game, everything is fun again.

Actually, I'll second that. I built a little 3 mission arc and it was a lot of fun to get in and learn the system then tell the story. Thumbs up
