    Best Final Toon

My favorite toon remains the Crab/Bane. I have both builds on the same character and have that third slot that I think I will make into a Huntsman.

    Ranged/AoE attacker with passive buffs
SIngle target melee with passive buffs
AR blaster type with some devices and almost no KB

    It's a great AT, IMO.
  2. Good time to be a Crab/Bane.

EDIT: I call out the SoA, but really any Def buff toon will suddenly feel more demand. The proliferation of soft-capped toons kinda made them anachronisms.

Zombie's right, though, most times the team will buff enough. Heck, once teams of +3s start doing the trials or more of those players are rolling through them with teams, the trials will get less difficult.
  3. Deevian gets a cookie.

I didn't say most squishies could solo AVs and GMs.

I don't disagree, but I think that has more to do with how the squishy is built and playstyle. Admittedly, it's harder to mess up "survivability" on melee types, but we've all seen squishy stone tanks, from time to time.

I completely agree. I think they're a great part of a team. Also, they can farm well in the right situations and in more varied situations.

Again, I think that's how characters are built and playstyle. Some trollers build for solo play, some for team play and some walk the middle.

But sometimes you just need more survivability. If the team keeps wiping, extra damage/recharge isn't going to do anything for the people laying on the ground dead. Meanwhile, a good tank could keep them all alive.

Overall your point does apply in most situations (after all, the entire point of buff/debuff sets it to make OTHERS better), but in some cases, a good tank or scrapper CAN have a game-changing impact.
Sure, in some cases, melee types can make the difference. A good case is the computer in the ITF. I've been on teams in which there are team wipes, except for the tank hammering the computer. Of course, it's a well-built tank (I have a horror story on a stone tank dying so many times during the computer that we actually called the TF off, knowing Rommie and the Nictus would eat his and the Shield tank's lunch).

Survivability, to me, is mitigation. Again, I have three great tanks (WP/SS, SD/SS, Inv/SS) and three scrapper (EM/SD, Claws/WP, DB/WP) that are tough as nails and almost never die. On an average team, they can boost the team's survivability. My trollers and such can make that whole team better, from mitigation to damage. That's my point, really. I have no intention of getting rid of my tanks or not playing them.

A tank can immediately grab the aggro and the team will continue killing without a hitch. For a corr/dom, they would need to apply their debuffs or AoE mezzes, which may or may not be recharged at that time. Or they could even be mezzed and killed within seconds with bad luck, unlike the tank.
Very true. Of course, a tank has a aggro cap. A troller really doesn't have a Immob cap (figuring he has more than one Immob).
  6. Small interruption. I've tried to find the answer in the Binds guides and can't spot it.

How can I make a bind to combine insps to make reds?

That ties into something I've said here, from time to time. The "squishy" ATs seem to be the types that can solo AVs, GMs, TFs., yet some (most?) can't seem to shake the idea that they need meat shields in front of them.

I like playing tanks (3) scrappers (3) and LOVE playing my VEAT, but my Mind/Fire Dom or Fire/Rad Corruptor can make an average team good and my Earth/Storm can make an average team superior. A great tank or scrapper doesn't have that same effect on the entire team's effectiveness.
  8. Crab/Bane

You can have both types in one character, an AoE monster and a ST killer.
  9. Mine's not all that different. He's EXTREMELY durable.

  10. Elll Ohhhhh Ellll at the music choice.

Ramble on to find that queen.

I wonder if you held them stationary, would the blue spawn under them? That is, is it player spawned or is it player and pet? Further, do pets make it more likely to spawn?

    Thoughts?
  11. To use the Enter key (and the + key) on the numberpad, would it be:

    numpadenter
    numpad+

    Corr or Blastr

You can make Blasters as tough. To me, the difference is that a Corruptor (such as a Fire/Rad) can self-buff. A Blaster can out-DPS a Corruptor.

So, a Corruptor should be able to solo easier. However, a Blaster with a solid and well-played tank in front of him can rip mobs apart.

I have a Fire/Rad Corruptor that is one of my most complete and versitile characters (SoA actually takes that title in my set of characters). My Fire/EM blaster is very tough and has levels of damage my Corruptor's just not going to touch without Insp bombing. Heck, that Blaster has taken on AVs when a tank gets the unlucky string.

I completely agree. Holds is the mitigation and, well, your Primary powers should be...PRIMARY.

Perma Hasten/Dom (well, technically .22 seconds from perma Hasten).
    45% Ranged
    27% S/L Resistance
    Good Endurance management
Full slate of powers, AoEs, ST attacks.
  14. I went a different route. I went with 45% Ranged defense and Hover, since my attacks and mitigation was ranged.
  15. I have a Mind/Fire and a Fire/Thorns. When asked, I say it's like having a blaster with holds and a scrapper with holds. Of the two, the Mind/Fire exemplars better, because it depends less on soft-capped defense. At L 50, I'm not sure which is more fun on TFs, since TFs are chock full of mobs. At times, that Fire/Thorns could steal aggro off [insert name of hated politican here].
  16. I don't mind the backpack, so I had no issue with a Crab and Bane build on the same character.
  17. Heh, Earthquake seems to take forever if you fired it off while the blue mist swirls.

    C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon!

    Phew.

If your argument is that squishies are underpowered because they are more susceptible to status effects, I'm not sure I agree.

Look at the list you mentioned.

Now, ask yourself or the board, "What ATs can solo AVs and GMs?"

I'm also still not sure what is rooting you if you're a squishy. What power is causing the problem? Do you mean being rooted during casting time?

I can vouch for the wimpiness of Ice/FF. Sheesh. No idea what I was thinking. Killed that off in the 30s.
  21. I think it just takes getting used to.

The developers seem to want to move the game beyond "tank and spank." I think they're moving in the right direction, even if I don't agree with everything. They want to move away from formulaic encounters with just variations in the critters.

I ran my Earth/Storm through it last night and only died once. I was actually surprised, since it was my first time through with that character. Earth/Storm was actually pretty helpful for Battle Maiden. No -Regen on the team, but she was whacked in less than 15 for the MO badge. The mobs were absolutely demolished with the immobs and holds.
  22. Sonic has the advantage of not being Kinetic. Seems like you could have any powerset and folks don't say a word. If they spot a Kin on the team, you get the occassional, "SB Please." It seemed worse some time ago and not as bad now.

I don't mind boosting others and buffing, especially before big fights. I didn't buy the game to pass out Speed Boost, though. There's a Kin on Virtue who specifically skipped SB because it annoyed him.
  23. Traps or TA. Let's you play the game and not buff folks every 60 seconds. If you want to have fun, look for powersets that aren't designed to buff others.

Now, I am IN NO WAY saying that those sets are bad or that you can't learn to play them and have fun. I am saying that if your main objective is to have fun "rigth out of the box with little assembly required," play powersets that allow you to blast away or set traps and blast away.

    Consume

Hey folks, looking for advice from people experience with Doms. Building a Mind/Fire/Fire and at L 40. Just finished the patron pool.

I'm on the fence between taking Consume or Fire Shield. The power in question will be the L 49 power.

The build has good endurance management. The recovery is more than 2 End pts/sec more than used. The build also has perma Hasten and Dom, so the End bar will refill every time Dom recharges (76 seconds).

Consume would be single slotted, as would Fire Shield. So, I'd be looking at trading 27% S/L resistance for 24% End every 63 seconds.

Those who have played similar toons, is End such an issue or would adding S/L resist be beneficial since End is not an issue?
  25. I have three SS tanks. One time, I changed out Rage for FA, reasoning that I'd rather hit consistantly or something. I don't really remember or I've blocked it out.

Upon recovering, I respec'd and put Rage back into the build. I never notice the crash because I'm always on a team. When I crash, there's usually not much of a mob left or it's between encounters.
