How about a mastermind? Very different from scrappers and controllers, and you couldn't choose the same secondary (kinetics) even if you wanted to.
Mastermind would definitely be different, and they're relatively easy to solo.
I was going to say Fortunata. Two toons in one, and once you get Confuse + Mask Presence soloing is a breeze. Not that your little claws/SR Arachnos scrapper is hard to solo before then.
I would have said Warshade, but since you have already marked that out I would tend to agree with the above - a Mastermind or a VEAT would likely be the best choice for a strong character and a good change from what you have done before. If I may ask, why are you stopping at after having played just two (and now, three) characters? It doesn't sound like you have seen much of the game. Not trying to be critical, just hate to see people go.

I am about to embark on my final toon for CoH and would love to know some of your favorite builds. I took a martial arts/regen scrapper and a kinetic/fire controller to 50 and would like to try something different. I did not like playing PBs or WSs, so those are out. I will most like be going solo on this last hurrah, so consider that.

But I am LOVING my Thugs/Traps Mastermind right now..
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.
If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-
I'm leaning towards a Brute. I haven't really played one of those much. Electric Melee perhaps. Shield or Willpower secondary?
take shield..

My favorite Melee character is my Electric/Shield scrapper. The double BOOM of Lightning Rod+Shield Charge wipe out large groups, with only a boss left standing. It is not too difficult to softcap, and once you get there, it's survivability is awesome. The addition of the Incarnate Heal has made it even better . . . I don't think I have faceplanted once since I got it.
Of course, once nice thing about shield scrappers is that teaming with other shield characters gives you a defense bonus.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Depending on how far you wanna go after 50 SS/fire can pwn that content, sounds to me like you are more in it for the journey though. So i would highly recomend SS/WP or Claws/WP just a plain old fun *** trip to 50.

My favorite toon remains the Crab/Bane. I have both builds on the same character and have that third slot that I think I will make into a Huntsman.
Ranged/AoE attacker with passive buffs
SIngle target melee with passive buffs
AR blaster type with some devices and almost no KB
It's a great AT, IMO.
Night Widow may be what you seek as a very balanced toon great out of the box. Good DPS. Variety of damage types (lethal, toxic, psi) and attack types(melee, range, aoe). Can softcap to incarnate content levels easily with little IO investment. Great solo, great on teams. Great secondary effects. Mind Link one of the best and most fantastic team buffs there is as you can with one click, give everyone great additional defense (at high lvls, may not matter as much). Free extra costume slot. Buttcapes!!!! You can use the dual builds system to have a fortunata on the other build. Also, you can PvP with the widows/forts some as well. Given the amount of things you can do with a widow, I think it is the perfect final toon.
Just slot for recharge and perma mindlink (not hard on a NW), damage, max your hp, get some end bonuses here and there, and you can grab a touch of defense for times you forget to click ML or it drops (you get hit with slows, etc....). Add a little tough in, if you want (no need for weave). Can go aid self route now since fitness is inherent, or you can just carry a few greens for the 5% of the time defense fails ya, which works for me usually.
The NW is my "Final Toon" until it gets hit with a nerf bat or something better comes along.
Downside, if you do not like redside content, well, you have to get through 20 levels of it (prob 21 levels) to get through all your tip missions and to convert over. I keep mine as a rogue for now so she can move back and forth at ease and enjoy all the game content
I do second the MM as it is a very different but powerful toon and in a way, it can deliver all the same things a NW can (damage, buffs, solo, team, etc...). It is a play style preference in the end. NWs play like scrappers on steroids and MM's play like, well unique on steroids.
As a fellow solo only player I have to say going brute is the best way to end. I also agree with local man and have to say electric/shield is the way to go. My toon is only 38 but he's been a joy tagging LR + SC = dead man walking. Of course I also would say you could run an ss/fire brute to 50 in less than two weeks of just "casual play" (15 to 20 hours without IOs in the A.E.)

Someone say something funny.
That'll do, pig. That'll do.
I decided on, of all things, a blaster. "Element-Z" on Virtue if you see her. She's electric/fire. I am cautiously optimistic about the soft-capping: I'm already using hover w/ a couple defense enhancements.
From what I gather I can stack the defenses from hover, combat jumping, and weave to get a decent, albeit nothing like a tank, defense soft-cap. I'm excited to be an offensive juggernaut for a change.
Ice/Elec Tanker. It's fun.
If for whatever reason you change your mind.....add one to elec/shield. My scrapper was a game changer for me......revitalized the dulldrumbs. Annihilating a spawn with back-to-back powers of such magnitude is .....fun. My problem now is trying to play other toons after having the AOE greatness of elec/shield.
Since this is your final toon.....you wont have that problem.
**I am also a huge fan of Ice tanks so add 1/2 to Ice/Elec tank.**
