I hate snow

Seriously i used to love the snow, it used to bring back happy memories and remind me of a peacefull time

Then . . . . it snowed . . . . . it snowed hard . . . it snowed hard and long and wouldnt stop! I was stuck on a train back from the girlfriends for almost 5 ***** hours! Was only supposed to be just over 2 hours long but stupid snow meant i had to wait forever . . . . while standing because the thing was packed! Then the buses wouldnt run because of it . . . then the taxi took forever to get me home . . . . then my place is frozen solid and taking forever to heat up! Finish it all off, i was walking down a hill this morning next to an old lady thinking to myself uh oh she gonna fall! Then i slipped and SHE helped me up!

So what im trying to say is . . . . snow, i love you, but dont ever come down so heavy and cold again ok? We'll get along great then!

Though the country does look quite beautiful all white for a change

thanks for cheering me up!

In all seriousness, YES its much more annoying than I ever recall it being as a child.

Half my colleagues cant get to the hospital, but i live 5 minutes walk away, so i generally find myself doing alot more during the winter, and not just because people keep falling over and hurting themselves.

And last night loads of people were "shortcutting" through my hospital going the wrong way down one way systems and completely cutting off ambulances getting in and out, even with blue lights on.

I think the trouble is that snow used to never been an inconvience when we were all younger, get a snow day its a free day of school, or not but stell get to mess around in the stuff.

Now it just gets in the way, I've got to go shopping tonight, chances are I won't be able to get off my estate before i terify myself.

and i look out the window and it has started again.

All I can say is it had better be a white christmas! I'm from NZ and all the movies I've seen have a white Christmas in London and so far I've been very dissapointed. This looks like my best chance.

Also, the snow is only a pain because you aren't used to it. It's amazing how much trouble a little snow causes here.

I hate it too, looked like we were going to get away with it this time around in Dublin but last night and today it's been back with a vengence. Plus the council appear to have run out of salt and are resorting to sand (which doesn't work).

Happily I can walk to and from work anyway, no need to rely on crappy wheeled transport.

I was riding on my bike in the dark, then my headlights saw this big steel gate that I forgot sometimes gets closed.. I tried to brake, but I just didn't slow down in time and went right into it, flinging me XD. I love snow.

Spare a thought for young lads who'll end up with their derriere on the street over the holidays. Hopefully they'll also have old ladies handy to rescue them!

As a side note, it never snowed that much when I was in England and I lived all over the place! Spalding, Peterborough, Peak District (Bakewell, yum!), Norwich, Lake District (Pretty Windermere), Brighton, etc., and never did it snow enough for me to make a lasting 2-metre high snowman...

I think the snow was scared of me... honest!

Happy holidays to all though and be careful on the road! always have hot tea and tons of warm clothes in your car just in case!

You lived in my home city? The most awesome city in the UK? (Also said to be the happiest place to live)

It's a shame you've never gotten to see the castle when it's been snowing Or the cathedral. And of course, going to the market to get a hog roast or something to ward off the chill.

Photos please! Especially for the rest of us! I was born in England but have no memories of the motherland!

LMAO! - Up you get Sweetheart™

Nice story Damz!, I agree - everythings beautiful, but it is extremely frustrating with our under-developed, ageing and under-financed infrastructure.
I suppose it could of been worse, you could of been standing in a queue for 5 hours outside St.Pancras in the freezing cold before spending the night/s on an airport terminal floor.

The government should get in consultants from Canada to review our winter preperation. No committees about committees about committies - just straight up implement their recommendations, losing £1.2,000,000,000 a day is no laughing matter.

I suppose though that its only really been last year and this year where we've had a proper winter [and actual seasons!] so i can forgive them for not being fully prepared when the general acceptance is that we really dont get this kind of weather on a regular basis, especially with the current financial climate as it is [student fees! grrrrrr dont get me started on those!].

I personally love the weather we've had this year in the UK and hope this is the new norm Its how a year should be, each season bringing with it such drastic change in the weather. Summer was boiling hot. Winter is freezing. Autumn was nice but with a slight chill. Spring was ummm springy.

I am slowly getting used to it now that it stops falling down so often. But then again... Public transport is almost normal again.

Still.. snow is a lot nicer when looked upon from inside a warm house.

Horse turd. The past two or three years now we've had cold as heck winters. Whats the Government done? Oh, yeah, the same as usual; made cuts in stupid areas and lined their own pockets.
Right up there with ya, Damz (student too although wasn't in London at the time of the crapstorm) I still think we should have the Monarchy back...

Oh, you southerners. Doesn't take much to shut down the continent, or so it seems, same can be said for the southern parts of Sweden. It's a fairly normal winter up here in Umeå albeit a little bit more chilly than usual with -20 along the coast and -35 up where I'm from. Heading up there next week, we'll see if it's a bit warmer then.

I live just up the road from Spalding in Boston, we still didn't get it that bad; always seems to by-pass us like a bad smell .

But Lincoln christmas market got cancelled this year due to heavy snow, and when I drove my bus up there and stepped out of it I lost my legs upto my knees.

There are only two things that annoy me about snow.

a) Nuggets who have no idea about how to drive in snow/icy conditions (it's not hard, keep your control inputs smooth, don't try to make sudden changes in direction, keep your distance from the vehicle in front, use engine braking as much as you can, use as high a gear as you can manage and frankly, just pay attention)

b) The fact that we'd had a week and a bit of bitter temperatures and a foot and half of snow up here in the NE of England and saw nothing on the news, then as soon as London got 3 flakes of snow it was 'O NOES! TEH COUNTRIE IS TEH BORKEN!!!!11!' all over the news. Bloody London-centric media <cyclic compound of arsenic>s

We almost got some flurries last winter...... We get colder more often than I remember... And its kinda a shame if we get all cold and no snow.....

Oh... BTW Im in Central Florida, USA. I remember Englands countryside was beautifully green in the springtime when I was there... would look sweet with snow and all.

What's bad is I prefer snow to fog, where I live in the US. The locals don't get the fact you need to turn your head lights on so OTHERS can see YOU.

Or they do, and don't understand that highbeams are a bad idea in fog.

At least with the snow they get paranoid and just slow down... (although if it is snow-ing, they probably still don't have lights on...)

And Damz, I'm laughing with you, not at you

The snow isn't causing me to much trouble. But the cold caused the water meter to freeze and break in 2 in the empty flat above me. Not nice being woken up 5:30 in the morning and told there is water pouring through the living room ceiling.

Merry Christmas everyone!
