Dominators Are Beasts

I looked at fire as well, but fire ball is just another end hog for the dmg.

I loved sleet, for even more def debuff and a very solid resistance debuff and basically autohit. Ice mastery is very nice. If I could only fit in Ice storm... yummy.

Repeat Offenders forever !

Make all IO's available in Paragon Market! NCSoft, the chinese are making BIG money selling influence and other stuff in the game. Best way to stop them = make the paragon market a place to buy all IO's and perhaps other things as well.

Same deal with my Ice/Psi/Ice (Nerve), Fire/Psi/Fire, Plant/Fire/Fire, Mind/Thorn/Mace, and Earth/Thorn/Soul. I haven't done my Grav doms yet, so I don't know if they're still gimp
I didn't understand this until the double XP weekend. I created the following to look at Dom's closer. I didn't create a Gravity Dom because I have one already:

Fire/Fire Assault - The flare is a great taunt weapon. I could regularly pull enemies one at time with this power. I love the hot feet, hot breath, and flashfire too. She's level 16 and she flew there.

Ice/Ice Assault - The Icy swords are nice. She's level 13 now.

Earth/Earth Assault -My new favorite dom and definitely is fun! I stole the show from a tanker and brute during my runs on Union this weekend. I was so impressed with the build I went and built another one on Freedom and named her Lady Attitude 2.0(Level13) to replace my crappy controller. This controller is sentiment to me because she was my first character in CoH but Doms are just better than controllers. LA 2.0 can solo now. With the quicksand, stone spears, boulders and tremors she is a DOM TANKER but without the high hitpoints. Lethal, Lethal, Lethal! Both leveled the fastest out of all my new doms. She is only Level 15 too!

Electric Control/Energy Assault - I have not been a big fan of Electric Control. I tried to level my old 28 Electric Controller but she was so pathetic. Snaptic Overload and Radiation Emisson are a joke, and I don't like pets unless they have guns. I was a fly on the wall with her during mishes so guess what I did with her this weekend?

" Are you sure you want to Delete Dynamica Attitude?"

Psionic/Psionic Assault - Blasts are powerful and the confuse is nice. I confused one guy into clearing the whole room for me on 1 mish. I hold judgement on this one. She's level 13 now.

Plant/Plant Assault - This one I'm not so sure about. This sounded the coolest out of all the powers and I like the thorns, toxins and stuff but it won't work on the Prae clockworks. She's only 14 though, so I'll hold judgement on her too.I do love her skewer power though.

I did create some masterminds(2) too but I mostly drank Enriche when I played them. Not nearly as exciting as Dominators. At Level 25, I had 5 minions. 3 soldiers and 2 special ops. Isn't that crazy to have 5 plus myself doing assaults at 25? I did a group event all by myself against the PPD. I can't wait for level 50 for the MMs. I had one player complaining I was drinking too much while playing and didn't know how to be more aggressive with my minions. I asked her if these were mine or her minions? She was probably jealous because I was triple/quad leveling(the underground) in the mishes with no effort on my part. I do wish I could edit the comments my soldiers speak when they get routed. I do like "Rock and Roll!" but I would like more autonomous/insertable/selectable comments from my boys :-)

I have to be careful what I say on these boards. The past few weeks the doms have been heaven for me. Yesterday, I got served during the weekly WST on the Hero and Villain side.

Every now and then I have this happen. Do the Doms has a outright weakness to psionic attacks? My Dom was killed instantly repeatedly yesterday. It makes me look like a joke when I play on teams. I'll go through my awakes and then still have to go to the hospital. I was successful but I have to find a way to cover this. I have tried the vanguard mental guard with limited success but I need a better solution to this problem.

My controller on the Hero side is worse. When I play her I have to be 50 feet away to stay alive.

it's not a dom thing. it's a psionic thing. not many toons are built to stand up to it. unless you have positional def and/or a lot of psionic res/def, you're gonna get have a hard time. same with toxic.

Positional defense doesn't always work on Psi attacks. Many of the key ones (blind) are typed Psi only with no conditional component. some of the cone attacks also, one is tossed around by arachnos a lot and it is a hard-hitting cone typed psi only.

Add Mu Mastery, Power Sink and Surge of Power. I use this to tank heroes in all dom SFs.

!!!!! This thread must live !!!!

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

I finally got all of my Dominators out of Praetoria this weekend.

I have some questions about these two:

Plant/Plant Assault

This dom uses chemicals. Do they do splash damage? For example, when I use the other holds/Immob I could "catch" all in the net. But with the Plant my holds aren't so "comprehensive." I have to apply 2 or 3 throws to hold a group.

Psionic/Psionic Assault
My Dom has something called total/mind/mass hysteria domination but when I read about it closer it says that I get no XP when I use this. Why is this?

All of my other Doms are set to hold their own easily now but I have concerns about these two.

I assume that your dom is actually Mind/Psi since there is no Psionic primary, and the powers in question are probably Confuse and Mass Confusion.

If you re-read the power descriptions more carefully it says you won't get experience for an enemy defeated entirely by a confused foe. If you contribute some damage, you get XP. In fact, you get disproportionate XP, since the formula for confused mob XP sharing excludes 3/4 of their damage, IIRC.

A common misconception is that confuse powers hurt team XP, but Enantiodromos proved that is not the case in this post.

I assume you mean Plant/Thorns above? I've no real idea what you mean by "chemicals" or "splash damage" though.

Plants Holds and Immobs are the same as any other Domis really, they have the same magnitude and durations as any other holds and do about the same damage.

The only real difference is that a Plants AOE Immob does twice the damage of others which can make it a worthwhile power to slot for Damage and to PROC up.

Really, every dom's AOE immobilize is worth slotting/procing, in my opinion. 5 pieces of Positron's Blast and 1 additional damage proc. With a nice big target cap and huge radius, it easily can compete with your largely single target blast rotation for damage infliction. Plus with fast recharge, you'll get a lot of mileage out of those procs.

Confused opponents that damage each other award less inf depending on how much they damage each other. If they do 100% of the damage, you get 0 reward.

So make sure you score some hits to get credit. The reduction isn't that bad if you have some AoEs. Also, confusion powers can increase your rewards because they typically increase the RATE of defeats. So even though you earn less per kill, you kill more per minute.

This is the key. Also, you always get the full drop =)

I always scratch my head when I'm on a team why the team members stand back, or even stop moving when I mass confuse a mob. Were they used to people telling them "wait, confusing" or something similar? To me, purple bubbles=green lights. You can jump into a mob without fear of damage, debuffs, or anything else. Heck, you have incentive to go faster.

Not surprisingly, the few people I've seen that complain about confusion were also the kind to slow down, pull back and watch rather than jump in when the purple bubbles let loose. No wonder it reduces their xp, it's like complaining that a fleeing mob isn't granting rewards. You have to do something folks, xp won't deliver itself!

...But back to the thread at hand. I've been spoiled with my Mind/Psi dom's lockdown, so I had a bit of trouble playing my fire/fire. (What? only one reliable group lockdown? Absurd!!) Well, sticking with it the fire/fire/fire has come into his own. Good slots all around, all the attacks, and now even more AoE- the guy's a crazed blaster with pets and two group lockdowns. Plus a means of keeping stuff clumped! ...All this is before I could get some of his nice IO's socketed. If I get ahead of myself, the death nuke that is rise of the phoenix saves the day- what's not to love?

I mainly play melee class ATs (Tanks/Brutes) but I've been curious about trying a dom. I guess you could say I'm try-curious.

Anyway, I like elec/ on a controller, but got tired of standing at a stalemate (negating groups, but not really able to kill them). So I was thinking of doing elec/ on a dom and was wondering what secondary to use to help clean up groups after mezzing them. I was thinking maybe /Stone but I'm open to suggestions.

Also, would I be better off working for the S/L softcap, or going perma-dom?

You can get softcapped and perma-dom at the same time. Not cheap, but it can be done. That said, different primaries benefit more or less by extra defense, depending on their mechanics. From my experience, a mind/ dom, for instance, doesn't need it as much. In fact, it's superfluous- she can negate all damage of all types with the controls, so getting controls is more important than non-existent attacks getting through. Elec/....it's one where domination won't help as much. It also requires more close encounters, so I could certainly see S/L being handy.

Strangely enough, the perma-dom is less so; the aura, chain KD, patch, and secondary jumps on the confuse all are unaffected by domination. But extra recharge on doms is always good, and mez protection and solid ST control vs. bosses is still worthy, in my book.

For secondaries all can work to varying degrees- the synergy of knockable immobilizes, close range, and powerboost make elec/earth a favorite. /Earth has a lot of soft control, helping elec/ survive longer. /Energy has some good melee, but the knockback might not play as nice as earth's knockdown/up. Electric helps sap, and /psy helps with -recovery to place with your -end, and has some good melee/pbaoe too. /Ice has PbAoE and powerboost, and it's slow aura helps elec/ more than most. /Thorns has a lot of close attacks, and again, slows. Basically the only one that doesn't directly compliment elec/ that well is /fire, which helps anywise by outright killing things pretty quick.

Personally I find perma-dom more useful. I love not having to worry about being mezzed and high levels of recharge work to recharge all your long cooldown powers, not just Domination, so you have more tactical options and AoEs are ready for every spawn. Recharge is the gift that keeps on giving.

You want Perma Dom first and foremost. Mobs that are stunned/Held, etc etc are no threat to you. Then if you can get S/L thats all gravy..

Ok, I went Elec/Stone/Ice. I'm set for perma-dom and have Aid Self and Hibernate for those bad situations. I'm looking forward to leveling this one up!
