Your favourite geek culture references in CoH?
"But in our enthusiasm, we could not resist a radical overhaul of the system, in which all of its major weaknesses have been exposed, analyzed, and replaced with new weaknesses."
-- Bruce Leverett, Register Allocation in Optimizing Compilers
Isn't one of the RWZ arcs one long reference to Oban Star Racers? With all the named bosses using the name and personality of the characters from the cartoon. I think it's the Rogue Vanguard one. There's also the Wacky Races references in Faultline as well, Penelope's arc if I remember right. (Who might be named after Penelope Pitstop from the series.) Someone on the dev team likes their racing cartoons.
Aegis Rose, Forcefield/Energy Defender - Freedom
"Bubble up for safety!"
In the VEAT mission "Defeat Jenkins, Get list" Jenkins' says "Snakes. Why did it have to be Snakes?" This is another reference to Indiana Jones, I believe.

Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!
That mission makes me grin every time I see it.
"That's a really big door" makes me laugh, too. I just wish I could remember now which mission it was we were running when we came across that line... It was, IIRC, minion-chatter.
@Brightfires - @Talisander
That chick what plays the bird-things...
I do give props to the geek references in game.
I can't narrow it down to 1, here's my 3 favorite:
In GW's arc, you have to kidnap Dr. Crowe, Dr. Servo and Dr. Nelson
Betty Jo Bialoski - Actually this one is #1 for me, from the "Nick Danger, Third Eye" sketch from Firesign Theatre. Great skit. She only shows up in scanners and lots of nods to the original sketch "you may have known her as Nancy".
Technician Naylor - a tip of the hat to Red Dwarf
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
My favorite so far is Operative Jenkins as a reference to Leeroy Jenkins.

There's just way too many others for me to remember at the moment, to be able to list any more.
Inanimate Carbon Rod and the P_WN Shop
@Redcap

ANARCHY = A Society that does not need government
114. Ahrouns do not appreciate my particular brand of humour, so I should stop bleaching bulls-eyes in their fur.
There's a paper mission involving the Blue Oyster being stolen from the cult that worships it...
"Men strunt r strunt och snus r snus
om ock i gyllne dosor.
Och rosor i ett sprucket krus
r stndigt alltid rosor."
Let's see...
1) The references to the Wacky racers in the 1 miossion in Faultline.
2) As a Godzilla fanatic, I love the 1 paper mission to steal the G-Cells
3) The "zombie/horror" references in the Dark Astoria neighborhood names.

"Well, there's going to be some light music and a short note of apology saying, 'The universe ended last week, we're really sorry, we don't know what you're doing here, didn't you get the message?'"- Steve Moffat
Not exactly geek culture but the historical rikti names based on Boudicca and Herodotus.
Suspicious about Dr Roberta Todd in Moonfire. She's a kin, doles out speed boost. Bob Todd was Benny Hill's (famous for his speeded up chase sequences) straight man.
It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba
One of the reasons I actually love Dark Astoria is being able to spot the references on the Neighbourhoods...

In Founder's Falls:
Williams Square - Named after Roger Williams who founded R.I.
Blackstone Hills - the Blackstone river flows through Providence, R.I. the state Capital
Hutchenson Park - Anne Hutchenson was another Mass Puritian who went to R.I. for religious freedom.
Gaspee (sp) neighborhood - the Gaspee was a British ship what ran aground and was burned during the Revolutionary War.
So it's not so much "geek culture", unless your a history geek.
Rhode Island was also once nicknamed "Rogue's Island"
@Golden Girl
City of Heroes comics and artwork
I'm wearing the "From Beneath You" badge right now.
I also like "The Midnight Dodger What Dodges at Midnight."
Eva Destruction AR/Fire/Munitions Blaster
Darkfire Avenger DM/SD/Body Scrapper
Arc ID#161629 Freaks, Geeks, and Men in Black
Arc ID#431270 Until the End of the World
another one from Technician naylor is "Rescue Rimsey (Red Dwarf: Rimsey was Rimmer's Other Nickname)
On Justice

I would like to see a detective added that would be a reference to Detective Munch from Homicide: Life on the Street, and perhaps some other Homicide references too.

On topic:
Gaiman Woods (Neil Gaiman)
"Rescue Phyllo for Station Manager George" (UHF)
I'd love some "Big Bang Theory" and "The IT Crowd" references.
I wouldn't really consider Robocop to be a detective TV show.

If they wanted to take it to the next level, use detective names from "The Wire".
Global = Hedgefund (or some derivation thereof)
Personally, I prefer content without culture references at all, ideally, but I guess that's just me.

And how a piece of fiction without cultural references would be completely incomprehensible, right+
"Men strunt r strunt och snus r snus
om ock i gyllne dosor.
Och rosor i ett sprucket krus

Also, the Going Rogue references to Half-Life; most notably, the Lambda Sector neighborhood of Neutropolis and Mr. G.
Love it.
