Maybe they could compromise, and have him call it Middle-earth?

It's probably just me being more of a DC fangirl than a Marvel one - I've never been able to take Thor seriously, for example

I just hope she's better than in the Star Wars prequels, ... good grief she so was wooden.
Everyone was wooden in those movies, and it isn't their fault, it's Lucas'. He's a terrible director. Harrison Ford explained Lucas' directing method as stopping the cast and saying: "Faster and more intense!" That kind of lackluster directing just leaves younger actors like Portman confused.

If you recall, she had a wee bit more personality in V for Vendetta.

Then there was that issue of Justice League in which Green Lantern used his ring to make a giant green harness for the Earth so Superman could pull the planet back into its proper orbit...

Y'know, before I scrolled down I was SURE you were going to have a picture of Bert from Mary Poppins.

Don't forget kids, if you LOVED the comic and were a TOTAL fan, then there will be things in this flick that will upset you (earth instead of Midgard for example). Since I never read 1 Thor comic, I will totally LOVE this movie. But then again I was one of the few on this board that loved Ghost Rider.

I actually did not hate that movie but I also was never an avid Ghost Rider comic reader. I am personally hoping they scrap any plans for a Nic Cage sequel and give me a Sam Elliot cowboy Ghost Rider prequel.

Thor, however, I am a huge fan of and collector/reader of the comics. I will look past a blip like earth instead of midgard if the film delivers on the godly bad*** feel that a Thor movie needs. So far it looks good. I can't wait for this movie to come out.

I definately like that they used the kinda newer costume design which i think looks good, but stuck to the classic hammer design rather then that huge thing that was in the marvel alliance games.

Looks good enough to look forward to which is about as excited as i get for thor at any point. Never was one of my favorites.

Ultimates Thor could (potentially) be a more interesting character to have in the Avengers than classic Thor. what with his anti-capitalist stance and everything, but the standalone film would of been less interesting had they tried to merge the two-takes on the character.
I definately think Branaugh knew what he was doing when, (despite the whole Ultimates slant on the Marvel films lately), he opted without hesistation to depict the classic Marvel Thor.

In one interview Branagh said that Thor was his favorite character as a kid, so it's no surprise he'd go with a more classic feel. The Thor of the Claremont/Byrne Marvel Team-Up was one of my favorite depictions, being more widescreen action-oriented than palace intrigue, but the machinations of Loki and the Valhalla politics do help frame Thor's story. I found Ultimate Thor to be somewhat ill-defined. He was sort of a mouthpiece for Millar's beliefs, but never really all that finely defined compared to the other characters in the books.

Edit: This one.

while i didn't love the movie, and im a fan of the comics, i thought the flick was still dont pretty well. im a far bigger fan of Thor, and of Branagh, so i have bigger expectations with this movie. not so much because i really dig the comic, but because i like the director.

Well I'm coming at this as a Thor "novice" in that I've been aware of the character for years but I've never really read any of the comics or seen any other movies/TV shows that ever featured the character. Basically the most I've ever seen in recent times is this one trailer and that looked pretty promising to me.

Obviously I know nothing of how this upcoming movie will work within the existing context of the character so as long as it's a good movie it won't really matter to me if it completely trashes/reworks anything that the comic books have established. I guess ignorance can be bliss.

I still get a bit annoyed by that comic book character...

Åsgard is highly technological?
what the heck is that in Odin's eye?
he gave his eye to gain wisdom... none of the myths say replaced his friggin eye with a USB memory stick.
Åsgard, according to myths, is a castle, built smack in the middle of Midgard, so humans wouldn't feel alone, though only reachable by Bifrost, the rainbow bridge
Though silly now, that makes kinda sense, you can't find the edge of a rainbow, so kinda like the illusive pot of gold, it's also the entrance to Åsgard, which no human can reach.

But still... technology? i never quite got that, sure... it's a Americanized Thor, like with all religions, they all focus on America for some reason, if Percy Jackson is to be believed, Olympus is in the US too, and all the greek gods have american children in a camp.

But despite my whining, and quizzical look at the tech parts, i'm so going to see this movie.
Though i'm sad that the rumor that Brian Blessed was gonna be Odin, turned out to not be true

Though perhaps looking technological, Marvel Asgard still operated entirely on magic. It's just the Jack Kirby designs; they all tend to have that look. Same thing for the eye-patch. Odin often wore an ornate, metallic eye-patch that just sorta stuck to his face.

Comparing it to the original myth is a lesson in futility. After all, Thor's supposed to have red hair and a beard.

Yeah, i know it's an Americanized version of him, the Techy look still strikes me as odd, they're supposed to be Vikings after all...

and yeah, red hair and beard, he also can't fly using his hammer... he had a chariot pulled by two goats, one which he could eat, and it'd be alive again the next day.
Also, the lightning cam from the wheels of his chariot...

So honestly, the real Thor, is ever as silly

I mean... his idea of a fishing trip, is to fight a sea serpent so long, it encircled all of Midgard and bit it's own tail.

He sacrificed his eye to the well of Mimir, to gain the Wisdom of Ages.
He also eventually gets the head of said Mimir, which is what tells him the future.
