Lord Recluse Flattened Me

I've yet to have a successful tanking experience of LR and his 4 towers of doom, specificly his combo attack of chain gun and the melee punch that seems to take off 2000 hitpoints in each attack and executes in under a scond floors me to the point where I don't even bother anymore.

If you're trying to go up against him, its handy to have a pain or empath on you to spam healing powers while you use insps to keep you res-capped and at 75%+ defenses. He's still going to hit occassionally, and it will hurt, which is pretty much why Granite tankers are FoTM for moSTF runs.
This is interesting. I used my Ice tankers, two of them, for the STF yesterday. First I ran my Ice/SS. I do not turn rage on while tanking LR while ToHit/Acc tower is up. In fact I only turned Rage on towards the end when towers were down. My defenses are at 50, so one med Purp two oranges were fine for me. I had a good empth on me and I never needed to hit Hib, but I was ready to hit Hib at any time (after taunting constantly).

Second Ice/ was my Ice/Dark Melee, my defenses are at 52 s/l and 58 En/Ne, 25 positional all around. This tank was a lot smoother to handle LR. Whif, whif, whif, whif, about all the time. The few times I got hit, I had HF and siphon life ready and my good ol' empth and hibnernate. Never did hit Hibernate.

Today I ran with my Elec/SS tank. He did die. I had an empth but no AB on empth. So when LR got a lucky streak, it was a bit hard. I packed medium oranges and purps. When those ran out, it was the times LR had the streak. Died three times but we did it. We left a dead body by LR, had VENG up all the time and it was good to go. Veng and fallout works.

Repeat Offenders forever !

Make all IO's available in Paragon Market! NCSoft, the chinese are making BIG money selling influence and other stuff in the game. Best way to stop them = make the paragon market a place to buy all IO's and perhaps other things as well.

For a great many people, those might as well be the same term.

My first time on an STF I was on an Inv/SS myself. I am not a min/maxer (Although I have been doing some as of late) but I made a very durable tank. The original plan was to have me backed up by an Empath defender, but it fell through when he needed to leave mid-mission.

As I recall there were a few buffers, but no other healers on the team, and no heals. As fun as it sounds against tower buffed Recluse. Because of the lacking support I had to load up on all of the T3 Purples I could grab on short notice. A couple deaths later, and an empty tray, we pulled it off. I didn't need the inspirations as much once the red tower was down, since he wasn't hitting like a freight train anymore, and once the blue tower was down I didn't need them at all.

Still, I was surprised by how powerful he was. So for the record I do NOT recommend being the tank on your first STF. Trust me on this.

Once you get an idea on just how hard he hits THEN you can tank him.

When I'm tanking him with CMA I have the following loadout of inspirations:

8 medium purples (I'm at 45% def so I only need 1 medium per minute to soft cap him at 75% until the blue tower dies)
4 large oranges
4 large greens
4 large blues

Immediately before I jump into melee with him I pop one medium purple and 2 large oranges to put me at 75% defense and 70% resistance to E/N damage. I then jump in, taunt him and draw him back behind the green tower. The team starts on the red tower at this point. I keep 1 medium purple and 1 large orange active until the red tower dies, at which point I allow the orange to expire. I keep 1 medium purple active until the blue tower dies, at which point I'm basically home free... he's just a normal level 54 AV at this point from a tanker's point of view.

If he nails me I hit dull pain (which I have bound to the thumb button of my mouse). If he nails me again I pop a green. If he hits me with that end drain attack I pop a blue. On most teams I'll finish up with at least half my inspirations left giving me a cushion for problems. This is a dangerous game, but with a good build and the right inspiration loadout an Inv can tank him without help from the team. A Shield tanker can do the same, I ran my Shield/Fire tank through the STF earlier today using the same tactics. We had a sonic on the team so I didn't need the oranges but otherwise we lacked support.

Still, even though I've tanked him over a hundred times on various tanks I never take him lightly, he can as you discovered lay a ton of pain down in a hurry if he gets lucky. I've had him drop my granite armor tanker in less than 3 seconds through 75% defense and 90% S/L, 80% E/N resistance. It's very unlikely he'll do that, but it IS possible and if the RNG hates you that badly you're going down.

LR buffed by his towers is the most dangerous AV in the game. He's beatable but anyone who approaches tanking him with anything but care and caution is looking for trouble.

Maybe, but while I wasn't a noob at the time, I wasn't exactly seasoned. Nowadays I tend to prepare better, but STFs aren't on my regular list of things to do.

Right now I'm working on maxing out my tank's build. Need 4 expensive Hami-Os to make it, but I have 2 of 4 to finish it. Then I just need the IO sets.

I know what people mean when they say that but in this game, soloing with inspirations isn't really soloing.

So please, with all due respect, don't say that you can tank lr solo....with inspirations.
I know it's true to the letter but in spirit, in this game....it isn't.

I'm curious to know if anyone has recorded LR's actual damage output, or if there's a good place to find it.

I'm somewhat confused by my first experience with LR. Yes he hit hard, harder than any other single AV my tank has ever faced...

But I didn't percieve it to be as hard as some have perceived (My ele/fire gets his def with inspirations, SL res and E/N res are hard capped with alpha boost, the odd IO and some minor overslotting)

If no-one's done this I should probably do it myself, the next time I get a large chunk of time when I'm not watching the baby, and when there isn't something else to it might help explain what happened, which was less severe than I'd gone in expecting.

It wasn't nearly to the point where I'd be comfortable without purples, but I'm certainly thinking there might be other options than the (adjusted) soft cap

His power data is here. The numbers are all in Damage Scale; to figure out his actual damage output you need a few extra pieces of information:

1. Archvillain damage table. Scale 1 damage for a level 54 AV is 517.68 on the ranged table, and 862.79 on the melee table. Those figures are from I7, but I don't believe they've changed. Base damage is damage scale multiplied by the appropriate table entry.

2. The tower buff. The tower provides a 105% buff to smashing, lethal, and energy damage. That means while the tower's up, all his damage is multiplied by 2.05 except for the toxic DoT from Slice.

3. Combat modifiers. At +4, all his damage is multiplied by 1.44. With the advent of level shifting, it's now also possible to fight him at, effectively, +3, which reduces the multiplier to 1.33.

Put together, it looks like so:

Code:

                   Base Tower Buff +4(Tower) +3(Tower) +4(No Tow.) +3(No Tow.)
Energy Punch 862.79s 1768.72s 2546.96s 2352.40s 1242.42s 1147.51s
Energy Smash 1691.07s 3466.69s 4992.03s 4610.70s 2435.14s 2249.12s
Spider Strike 1414.96s 2900.70s 4177.01s 3857.93s 2037.56s 1881.90s
Slice 1035.35l+ 2122.46l+ 3056.35l+ 2822.88l+ 1490.90l+ 1377.02l+
                 862.79t* 862.79t 1242.42t 1147.51t 1242.42t 1147.51t
  Total 1898.14 2985.25 4298.77 3970.39 2733.32 2524.53
Arm Lash 1423.60l 2918.39l 4202.48l 3881.45l 2049.99l 1893.39l
Channelgun 931.82e 1910.24e 2750.74e 2540.61e 1341.83e 1239.33e

*10-second DoT
I also have a theory about why some people see him use his regular Bane summon and some don't. The old AI tried to determine the "best" attack to use in a given situation, for a highly idiosyncratic definition of "best." This is one reason critters never used to use their ranged attacks in melee, even if it meant, say, cycling Pummel over and over instead of firing the Macross Missile Massacre. It also often led to critters getting "stuck" on single powers.

The tweaks that have happened since I14 have made AI power choice more random, meaning they'll mix things up more and stop fixating so much on single powers. (Good for critters, not so good for MMs trying to convince their bots or mercs not to charge into melee and bip things with their mighty, mighty brawl.)

Recluse has five attacks with 4-second recharges: Energy Punch, Slice, Arm Lash, Channelgun, and Suppression. Energy Smash is 8, and Spider Strike 16. Now that he'll freely try to cycle through all of them, that means there's basically never a time when he doesn't have multiple attacks recharged and ready to fire--the animation time on Suppression alone means by the time he finishes using it he has at least four other powers ready to use. I'm wondering if it's not simply a case of the RNG keeping him so busy spamming attacks the summon just doesn't pop up consistently.

Someone saying about how bad Elec tanks have it, prior to any knowledge on say dev oversights for the sake of pvp etc one could of tried tanking LR for suppression or channel gun and resisted the end drain rather than sit there taking smash and lethal.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

Elec is actually one of the better primaries for recluse tanking. I'd rank it behind Stone and Invuln.

If it wasn't for that toxic damage, S/L res capped electrics would be really really great.

So how does Willpower stack up against Recluse?

Uber Talgrim - level 50 emp/dark defender
Uber Rod - level 50 dark melee/regen scrapper
Rod Valdr - level 50 invuln/SS tanker
Talgrim - level 50 ninja/dark mastermind

OMG!! Please add these costume designs now!

You'll have to rely on oranges and the kinetic dampener temp power to keep your resists high, but your main problem is Recluse's end drain which you have no resists to. For defense you have the same issues as most other tankers, which can be solved with teammates, IO's, and purple insps.

Shouldn't Dark be pretty solid for it? Decent toxic resist, good resistances across the board, easier to buff defense than some sets, and resistance to slows and end drain. Plus, Dark's end issues aren't as bad when you aren't running Death Shroud/CoF/OG (none of which affect him in any meaningful way).

Dark would be ok, but it won't be at the top end. You'll need help/insps to reach the resist cap, and your resist hole happens to be among recluse's heavy hitters. The kinetic dampener temp power helps here as well. Toxic isn't that common on recluse, and the red tower buff doesn't give his toxic attacks more damage.

Does the hospital inside the Longbow ship have an Insp seller?

(I almost always start this mish with a tray full and email full. But by the time we get done with the junior league, I rarely have enough left for LR. Either we don't have enough Immob to lock GW down - which leads to me munching purples while taunting in front of her and telling everyone else to hit her from behind. Or not enough dps to take her down quickly. Or the blaster's "single pull" causes a few of GW's friends to decide to join the fun.)

So anyway, if there is an insp seller in the hospital on the Longbow ship, I thought I would just let myself die, rez on the ship, re-stock on insps and be able to quickly re-join.

It's not as solid as a stone, but it's got the same resist to energy that Invuln does. My particular dark armor tank also happens to have the same defensive values as well.

Heal off the towers, and even if he does get lucky, he doesn't actually kill me.

I usually just buy inspires in Ouro, AE, or use base storage (that way I can get mediums instead of smalls).

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.

I recommended flying out side the range of his melee attacks. He only has one or two ranged attacks.

If he doesn't have any -fly in his attacks that'd make him a bit of a pushover...

Just as a note, here, I don't think its possible any more to lock GW down with Immobs. I've seen them stacked 5x to 10x on her and it only stops her when the purple triangles are down. You can kite her some, if you clear at least one side of the map, and between that and her stopping to fire at you and times when the triangles are down and making sure if she does get near enough to you to fire the heal off the rest of the team is away at that point, she doesn't get many good heals off.

Also, the pulling is highly unpredictable. I often use the snipe on my rad defender, which is low damage and even has a bit of range boost in it so I can stand extra far away, but even when I've never come in sight of GW and I'm firing from full inviso I've seen it bring Mako (my target), Black Scorpion and GW. I believe it depends somewhat on their facing, as well as possibly where the flier is, as it may boost their Perc.

I've run my WP through the STF a number of times last week.

Towers up, pop a large orange in the beginning then flying taunt.
Towers down, no problem.

Use taunt (slotted for range and duration of coarse) and the temp jet pack. I do that every time now on all my tanks and brutes because it is 99% effective. Even done it multiple times on my DA tank and my Energy Aura Brute. (yay strong and pretty)

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.
