Now I'm back in. I deleted the checksum file in the CoH folder, verified files and flushed my DNS cache as was suggested in another thread

Windowskey-R opens the command line window, enter this

ipconfig /flushdns

YMMV, good luck

Well glad it worked for you, i tried this and same thing and if you try to verify the updater crashes
you know I could have lived without the winterlord thing...

I got a second patch on one machine, the one that couldn't get back in, but not on the other. There's not supposed to be a second patch. There's not supposed to be a *.prv file, which is for updating the updater. When I deleted the *.prv file, it fixed the updater.

So, as a next step solution: Delete the updater and re-download it to your desktop and start it from there. Point it to your normal directory if it asks. If it looks like it's going to re-download all the .piggs with a huge update. Stop it and restart it normally from your shortcut. Delete checksum again and the *.prv again. Reboot.

I'm not someone that curses a lot. I haven't stopped cursing for fifteen minutes though.

There is nothing positive that I can say at this point.

How to fix the 'No response from server' problem:
Exit COX
Using Windows Explorer or hard disk browse, go to where your COX program is installed (like C:\program files\City of Heroes
In the City of Heroes folder, find two files: one ends in PRN and one ends in CHECKSUM
Delete them
At Start, click Run. IN the box, type CMD
The Command Prompt black screen appears. In the command window, type :
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS <--- notice the space before /

After it runs, type EXIT in the command window and the black screen goes away.
Restart COX
It will checksum and then fix the broken files
It will verify
And then you can log in

Had this same problem and doing these two steps and letting the re-verify run corrected my login issues. Thanks Zombie Man!

The fraise "No Responce From The Server." Pissing you off?

Do this!

Go to your OS( C: )

Access your program files(x86)

Go to the City of Heroes section

click the file called "cohupdater"

Note: I had done the update and still received the message trying to access a server, try it out it worked for me

And I just had a new minuscule patch download, having had no problems playing earlier today.

Now I too cannot log in. Same exact error.

I REALLY want to see this fixed immediately, it's pissing me off. Not even the DNS Flush after deleting the checksum and PRV worked.

The past couple of days have just been bug after bug, it seems...

Oddly enough shut down and restart the computer fixed it for me, the updater then found (yet another) patch and applied it and let me find the servers at last.

flushing dns cache worked for me. If I would have read this thread earlier I might have seen the suggestion.

But here is what you can type into your mac to flush the dns cache

dscacheutil -flushcache

best of luck

Having same problem, long time player, multiple accounts, all active, played last night, won't let me log in to any server, same message.

HAD same problem earlier , did as an earlier reply suggested.

open the command line by pressing the windowskey+R,type in the line.
ipconfig /flushdns
I tried this, then rebooted my pc,
when I launched COH, it automatically updated again.
It worked for me, I'm back in. Hope this will solve your issues too.

This. I ran the updater and for the winter patch and now I can't get in with the server message "No response from this server. Try a different server, or try playing this one later." , oh, and it says it for both of my accounts if anyone wants that info. LOL clicked the red exit button on the login screen and got the cohcrash window .

I guess I'll try restarting my pc, and then verifying files if that doesn't work.

Restarting found a 199kb update that wasn't being downloaded by the patcher before the restart. Hopefully it'll work after it's done applying .

Restarting was all it took to download that update and let me in

Doing this plus a reboot worked for me (finally). Many thanks, CrashPositron. Out of curiosity, how many patches did they release this weekend? I downloaded the patch after the Saturday maintenance and had no problems. This morning when I started the game, the updater downloaded another patch - this is when the "No response" problems started.

While I wasn't getting any red bips (or they were going by too fast to see?), I was getting this on all servers.

It is working now, and all I did was flush my DNS (ipconfig -flushdns), and it downloaded a small update and started working fine. I didn't do anything else on this thread.

I just logged into Freedom, no problem.

Any advice?

Oh, look. It happened again.

I fix the problem, play a bit. It happens again the next time I try to get into the game.

How sweet.

I got in after doing the silly file deletion and DNS cache flush. Then I crash due to unknown reasons followed by this;

"The game client was unable to connect to the login server. This may be due to a local network issue such as a firewall block, or may be because the login server is down for maintenance. Please check your network settings and try again, or check http://www.cityofheroes.com/servers/index.html for current server status."

This is a familiar error. It's nice to meet old friends during the holidays. Don't you think?
