Quote:Here's a link to the guide (it's a thing of beauty): http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...aker%27s+guideMacro to combine inspirations? How does that work? Wouldn't that require some sort of logic?

I ran into it post hotfix. I'm pretty sure that I didn't have issues prior to that (not 100% positive, though - I seem to recall slotting in Ouro prior to the hotfix, but I'm not sure of that).
-
I had the same issue yesterday (and bugged it), and so did one of my friends. It appeared to be zone related. For both of us, leaving Ouroborous was the solution.

Quote:SS/FA/Mu is my farmer - If you aren't keeping Rage double stacked+, you are doing it wrong.Yes and you just made my point SS/fire is not a great awesome farmer because you have to support it with the same stuff any other toon could grab. So ya the whole reason you grab SS is for FS+Rage.. which turns out to be a lousy combo in a farm. Many people who praise the SS/Fire also don't bother using Rage in the farm to avoid the crash.
What makes a good farmer? Lots of AOE that does good dmg and there are other sets that give you more AOE options than what SS can offer you.
Build up an elec/fire then come talk to me about who knows what. -
I had the contact window crash (every time I opened it), and, for me, rolling my video drivers back to 10.9 (ATI 5850) fixed it.

Quote:Doing this plus a reboot worked for me (finally). Many thanks, CrashPositron. Out of curiosity, how many patches did they release this weekend? I downloaded the patch after the Saturday maintenance and had no problems. This morning when I started the game, the updater downloaded another patch - this is when the "No response" problems started. How to fix the 'No response from server' problem:
(This is for XP, Vista and 7 are similar, but call the CMD box something else)
Exit COX
Using Windows Explorer or hard disk browse, go to where your COX program is installed (like C:\Program Files\City of Heroes)
In the City of Heroes folder, find two files: one ends in PRV and one ends in CHECKSUM
Delete them
At Start, click Run. IN the box, type CMD
The Command Prompt black screen appears. In the command window, type :
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS <--- notice the space before /
After it runs, type EXIT in the command window and the black screen goes away.
Restart COX
It will checksum and then fix the broken files
It will verify
And then you can log in -
Not for me, they caused constant crashes (10.12, that is) - I rolled back to 10.9 (ATI Radeon 5850). Specifically, if I opened the contact window it would immediately crash the game.
-
10.12 ATI driver is also causing crashes. (AtI Radeon 5850). Specifically, if I opened the contact window it would immediately crash the game.
-
I filed a /bug report on this today, and, so far, this only seems to happen to me when exiting missions.
-
I've gotten the same thing upon occasion, Leandro. I have no clue what the hell it is or what caused it to display (I'd like to say key press combo, but I've never been able to duplicate it intentionally).

Quote:This is copy pasted from the top of the server status page:It is 1:05pm.
The websites Server Status page claims Defiant is up and running. I will not hesitate to demand compensation if the problem persists for more than one day.
Changes to the Server Maintenance Times
As of Thursday, October 22nd, 2009, the regular bi-weekly server maintenance times will be modified and will take place once a week on Thursday from 4:00 AM Pacific / 7:00 AM Eastern to 6:00 AM Pacific / 9:00 AM Eastern.
Please note: while we are reserving that two-hour period for maintenance updates, they will not necessarily require the entire two hours and additional updates may be scheduled outside this time-period as needed. We may also perform maintenance on additional servers, such as the web servers, message boards, or login servers.
The servers are undergoing maintenance right now. Also, the server status page reads as last being updated 9/7/2010 (9 days ago), so the server status it's displaying isn't current. -
The same thing is happening to one of my toons for the Mercenary Accolade. I have both the Vanguard Recruit and the Criminal badges showing as completed and both badges are displayed on my Badges tab/menu. The the progress bar is showing full for the Mercenary accolade, but no accolade awarded. I filed a /bug report in game and will post if/when it gets resolved.

I was in a group that ran this mission a week or two ago, and we saw exactly the same behavior from Nosferatu. As soon as he spawned, he started running and didn't stop until we defeated him.

"Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict" - Pink Floyd
"Polysics or Die!!!" - Polysics
"Beyond Good and Evil" - Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
"Kooler Than Jesus" - My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult
As well as several others that have already been mentioned. -
Please remove the recharge on rest. It only really effects low level characters, and I've never understood the reasoning behind it. It further slows down what is already (by it's nature) slower game play - specifically, the levels when you have few(er) powers and the least effect from enhancements.

All snark aside, what, exactly, do you think this adds to the game? Is it there as a time sink or to try to add some sort of realism? If it's the latter, then why not have some sort of consequence for not stopping a runner (at least occasionally)? As it stands, there is absolutely no downside to not pursuing a runner (unless it bugs out and doesn't leash back to about it's starting point/jumps into rafters, etc. and you're on a kill all). A runner doesn't provide a challenge: ignore it and it'll eventually come back, most likely non-aggroed. A runner doesn't doesn't pose a threat: it won't aggro nearby groups and train them back. The only way a runner might prove hazardous is if a player or a pet chases it into another pack, and neither of those options is a given (honestly, both are pretty easily avoidable).

I was getting frustrated with a SS/FA brute until i built for about 30% s/l. iirc, what I wound up trading off for the defense was in terms of HP, not recharge. For me, the Def made a world of difference, and I really started having a blast with the toon.

Me too - firefox (and, yes, I do make sure that the "stay logged in" box is checked). IIRC, this started happening right after they ported the forums. I was guessing (probably incorrectly) that ongoing forum tweaking might be the culprit...viva blatant supposition!

Quote:You're entitled to your beliefs. If I may ask, with regard to your argument, what in your background (professional training, degrees, accreditation, etc) would you use to support your argument where it disagrees with the scientific research and data that has been and is being collected and verified (through scientific rigor and discourse) on this particular subject? The following are the only legitimate mental disorders, every other is just an excuse to enable bad behavior:
Schizophrenia (and it's little brother, paranoia)
Multiple Personalities
Psychopathy and Sociopathy (i.e., being EVIL)
Retardation
REAL Bipolar Disorder (as in, uncontrollable rage followed by attempted suicide, not just using it as an excuse to be a weepy wuss and a huge jerk in the same sentence)
That's it. I do not believe in any other mental disorders. At all. Citing them does nothing against my argument because my argument is that they are not real. -
Quote:Once considered a character defect, gambling is now known to be a highly addictive disorder with neurological causes. Thanks to new advances in brain imaging, scientists are beginning to identify the neural mechanisms that go awry in the brains of pathological and problem gamblers. What they're learning from such research is also shedding light on how these same mechanisms determine individual risk tolerance - and influence the financial choices we all make throughout our lives....Things like gaming, gambling, and sex addiction, however are total bull and one can stop at any time of their choosing, and just choose not to. I have a caffine addiction, but I'm not suing Dr. Pepper over it, I'm not blaming the grocery store for letting me buy it. I can stop at any time I please....I may get a massive headache, but I can stop at any time.

My claim was that you're unfairly grouping those with pathology in with jerks. Pathology is pathology, regardless of whether or not you, personally, believe it. Again, in the case of the lawsuit that prompted this thread - bogus. -
Quote:Oh really, so someone with diabetes/cancer/hypertension/bipolar disorder/etc. should just be able to will his/her body/mind to health because, as you so eloquently put it, we all have a choice? If you think that humans can't be slaves to things that they can't control, I sincerely invite you to take a walk through either a mental ward or a hospice ward in your local hospital - tell the patients there that they simply aren't exercising their freedom of choice well enough. My point here (as it has been prior) is not the defense of ******* who are looking for any excuse they can find to justify poor behavior. It's just that you seem to be lumping the ******* in with folks who are genuinely ill and calling them all dregs."Legitimate" is subjective. Lack of self-control is lack of self-control. Every person has a choice. You're claiming that humans are nothing more than slaves to things they can't control. I'm saying that that line of thought is detestable and also incorrect.

Quote:What I am saying is that physiological dysfunction is physiological dysfunction. For the record, I think that the lawsuit that prompted this thread is horseshit. The exception I'm taking with your line of reasoning is that you're essentially writing off people who have legitimate maladies, and that's not cool.More excuses. People will say or do anything to get out of the consequences of their actions. Humans have this thing called "free will", and nothing trumps it. Nothing. If someone truly cared about what was at stake and wanted to stop, they would. But they don't care, and then they expect everyone else to fix their lives. It doesn't work that way! You screw up your life, you fix it.

Quote:While I agree with your sentiments on taking personal responsibility, it's not quite as easy as your argument implies. Neuroscience is is showing us that while the idea of "just say no" may provide a nice (moronic) sound bite, it's what happens internally (generally neurological) that provides the driving force in compulsive/destructive bahavior that is related to but by no means exclusive to substance abuse. That's not being an enabler, that's science. I'm not suggesting that physiology negates responsibility (nor am I suggesting that the twinkie defense is valid). I am, however, suggesting that there are cases where willpower will never be enough - what's required is treatment (be it behavioral, medicinal, or otherwise). Bottom line, if your brain isn't physically operating in a normal or healthy manner (whether your problem is with heroin or gambling), no amount willpower, responsibility taking or forum post bravado will fix it.Fixed that for you to better reflect your enabling attitude.
Unless there is a physical addiction involved, people are responsible for their own actions. End. Of. Story.
Oh, I'm sorry you gambled your home away, but they were holding a gun to your head. What? Oh, they weren't? Then buzz of, it's your own fault. -
Freedom is back up (at least I'm playing on Freedom atm - after a somewhat painful login process).
