Amusing Find on Ebay

In my bored moments of looking at things I cannot afford, I stumbled across one of the costume codes given away at a Meet And Greet for a Freakshow Meat Doctor costume. Now I have seen stuff like this before, Gamestop gives free stuff for preorders all the time and some people will turn around and sell them for a couple bucks on Ebay, seemingly more to give them to someone who cares then to make a significant profit.

When I saw this item, it was at $225 and still had 2 days left. At first I was amazed that the poster of the code would ask so much, then I saw it already had 14 bids, and the history showed the poster started it at the cost of a penny.

Good grief this guy is cashing in. I was simply amazed that someone would pay over $200 to be able to have their characters look like this:

@Incarnadine - 50s on Victory:
Electric-Boogaloo (Electric/Psy Dominator) | Floating Flame (Fire/Psy Blaster) | Guldo Golem (Stone/Mace Tanker) | Hornak (Elec/Elec Brute) | Insatiable Greed (Demon/Dark Mastermind) | Solar Explorer (Plant/Thermal Controller) | TimeTraveler (Kin/Ice Defender) | Verranil (Emp/Archery Defender)

Costume Codes usually go for a decent amount. This isn't anything new. Considering that these are normally only given out at conventions and VERY rarely through any other methods, they are very rare.

Also, a big chunk of the people who play this game are adults with jobs, several with expendable income obviously.

Whenever I see something like that go that high I always wonder "shill bidding?"

Of course it could be completely legitimate, its certainly hard to prove and one should presume innocence until guilt is proven and all that.

But I still wonder.

200 is a bit on the high side for something like this. Normally they go for about 50-150.

Someone should track over time how much these go for, which ever costume proves to be the most valuable or sold for the most would be awarded in game. If the Freak Doctor wins, the in game freak doctors will get a special badge displayed beneath their name.

Most Vaulable Coustume 2010 or something witter.

If you can afford 200+ plus for the game code you think you could have gone to the convention.

Lol - seriously. For so much pissing and moaning around here whenever the codes get given out at San Diego or wherever... Jeez people, get on a plane. If you've got more than one account - give it to which ever account you play most / is oldest. But wow... just... wow.

The funny thing is, that auction started out as a $200 "buy it now" but because somebody placed an opening bid, it became a normal auction & now is past the $200 price point that somebody could have gotten it for.

And no, I am NOT the seller. I've just been keeping my eye on this one because I'm curious how high it will go.

Having the money is one thing, having the time to go is another.

Considering it would cost me closer to $3000 to go to the convention, not counting accommodation, plus the cost of taking time off, $200 would seem cheap in comparison if I wanted it badly enough.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

For instance, the one time I had the moola to go, they ended up making the con in the middle of my jobs vacation blackout period. SO I couldn't go.

No kidding, heck, I'm broke for the next two weeks, but at least I went! Was worth it too.

It would be nice if they came out with another way to get costume codes. My Merc mastermind looks so good as Malta.

Edit: Not all of us can get to the M&Gs. I know it's supposed to be a perc for attending, but when I see them being sold on EBAY it just kinda irks me.

No one pays attention to me, cause I listen to the voices in my head.

A while back one of the Praetorian Police costumes sold for $595.

When the original Freakshow costume first came out, some copies sold for $400.

This is why I gave away my spare costume codes by declaring the actual codes publicly (and I think why Avatea did the same in the forum giveaways). People can't sell the codes if they have to race to enter them on the PlayNC website

I still think my idea of placing a code in the ending text of an AE arc was the best way to give one away ever

It's a bit dearer to get to the states than $200 from the UK, or NZ, or pretty much anywhere really. Plus accomodation etc...

That's a brilliant idea!

I got one for helping with an event Mothers Love organized but just gave it to my SG as a prize for something.

They're neat but not 200+ quid neat.

How many orphans and natural disaster victims can you feed with this kind of cash? Pathetic waste of revenue.

Someone had made a thread about this same thing in the suggestion forums last week (I think the mods deleted it) complaining about whoever is selling the codes. I suggested that the devs wait until the auctions are over and then about a week or so after they closed make an announcement that they are unlocking those particular costumes for everyone for free, maybe as part of a promotion for selling a costume code booster.

Then we can all laugh at the people that just spent $200 bucks on their codes, because you know they'll be angry enough to make a nerdrage post about how they "got screwed".

Bah orphans have never increased my enjoyment of a game.

When GR came out, I saw a couple of those ghoul costume codes for sale on eBay and thought about bidding on one until I saw they were going for over 30 bucks. I can't fathom spending this much for something so basically useless. /em boggle

And what financial statements are you willing to provide that proves beyond any shadow of doubt that you regularly donate a significant portion of your weekly earning to take care of orphans and natural disaster victims?

I heard guy perfect spends $15 a month on an MMO instead of supporting orphan disaster victims.
