As there are still some players who don't have GR, I think the Incarnate system will give a little boost to sales in Q4 too

No but compared to CoV which more than doubled sales from the previous quarter from 6412 to 15706 million KWN. It sort of sicks out on the graph.

Think i'm getting some things mixed up...memory is spotty (end of year craziness here)

Anyways...wasn't there a dev post (maybe a tweet) saying something like 75% of the active playerbase has a praetorian? Maybe someone can confirm that. And (also fuzzy) i think there was a jack emmert interview or something that said CoV brought in additional players.

I'm sure there are other factors i'm leaving out, but that could be a reason?

Will see if i can dig up some links unless someone helps me out.

/edit: Oh, does anyone remember what the launch price of the CoV box was?

* Found it, box price anyway...CoV MSRP was $49.99

I'm thinking that all new players get GR

at least my friend who joined did - so I'm thinking that new players automatically get it. That actually makes sense so only older players will be without if if they didn't buy into one of the pre-pays

$5 million is far from chicken feed, anyway. The fact that NCSoft's other properties dwarf that number is a good thing for CoH, unless of course those gross revenue numbers hide truly immense offsetting costs.

Which seems doubtful.

Seems CoH is holding its own in the recession. Always good to hear.

I have noticed that a lot myself this past year or so and I agree.

International accounting practices basically mandate accruing subscription revenue when earned - i.e. when the subscription period starts or completes, depending on billing. Its extremely unlikely accounting practices for the game changed at any point in time because there would be charges for that, and an almost certain detectable change in the numbers due to that. Plus, no reason to do so. And NCSoft buying the IP didn't actually change their situation much from an accounting perspective: they were always the publisher and collected the subscription revenue. Buying the IP meant they were now footing the bill for development directly, and no longer paying Cryptic for anything, both of which would have affected costs, not revenue.

Things like add ons and perk packs are a bit trickier to account for, but its very likely they have no impact on a first order estimation for Going Rogue's contribution because we've had several consecutive quarters with add on packs which likely have statistically comparable revenue generation. In fact, the error bars due to attempting to reverse generate subscriber numbers from the published login numbers from the past (which are our primary means of extrapolation) are significantly higher than the reasonable estimate for add on pack variances, at least in my estimation.

One of the oddities that I'm trying to figure out is that the data suggests very few players prepurchased Going Rogue. I wouldn't have guessed that. Also, I'm almost hoping less than 100% of the existing playerbase bought Going Rogue, as weird as that sounds.

Not those who knew what they were talking about. The crash was far from a surprise, but both banks and government had an interest in favoring certain points of view.

Everybody will like this graph because it can be used with equal credibility to support both DOOM and cheerleading.

I don't know about the majority of GR buyers, but waiting for the complete box meant a free month...so value-wise that seemed better.

This gives me a thought.. At a few points in the past, they've offered deals of get 14 months for the cost of a 12 month bundle. Anyone know when those happened? It'd be interesting to line those up with these revenue charts.

Although how long FF14's going to hold up is in the air, given the huge amount of problems S-E's had with the launch...

Fixed that for ya.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

So far has handled GR better than CoV, with CoV there was a huge spike, BUTT it was followed by two events
-the entire ED mess which came to a suprise to many, looking back now, the invention system has more than given back what we lost with ED itself, but it was perhaps one of the most unpopular nerfs ever, and did cost them a lot of subs based on how it was handled, so far WW is good here
-the longest drought in issues( no doubt due to the events going on between NcSoft and Cryptic at the time), with issue 19, WW seems good here, in terms of followup

Looks over at CO, it really doesn't seem like a good sign their going F2P. So round one goes to CoX, next round we'll see CoX vs. DCUO
