Booster Pack: Travel Powers

With alternate animations becoming available, possibly there could be alternate animations available for Fly, Superjump, Superspeed and Teleport.

The various veteran Sprint Prestige powers could also be bundled into a single Sprint power (alternate animation choices for Surge, Dash, Quick, Rush and Slide) for those who gain them - allowing you to recolour as well (no pink-cloud only Slide for example!)

Fly could have tech hoverboards, floating crystalline discs, fixed-wing and other various designs of jetpacks (we know Jay loves creating those! ), rocket belts, broomsticks...

Superjump could have you turn into an electrical ball arcing up into the sky and back to earth, jump-packs, rocket-flares under your feet...

Superspeed could have similar alternate animations to the veteran Sprint powers, a more Flash-esque run with ghost images trailing behind you...

Teleport could have you jumping into a vortex, sinking into and rising out of the earth, disappearing/reappearing in the flash of a smokebomb...

Costume pieces could be worn which automatically assign alternate animations - if you wear a jetpack, then your flight/superjump will be changed to represent that jetpacks use.

I don't have any problem with them adapting the flypose idea and making alternate animations for the Travel Powers and making that part of a Booster Pack.

I do have a slight problem with reworking the Vet Sprints into some form that can be gained via such a Booster Pack. I don't like the idea of making a Vet Award something anyone can buy - what would be the point of it still being a Vet Award at that point? If these sprints did end up in this Booster Pack then the Vet Sprints should be replaced with something else that would be an exclusive Vet Award.

I also have a problem with the idea of costume items being linked to animations/emotes the same way I'd have a problem with them being linked to powers or in-game buffs. If you had to wear costume item X to get any in-game benefit then people would start wearing the best ones and everyone would start looking the same. One of the greatest things about this game is that NO costume item is linked to any in-game benefit. This allows everyone to wear anything they want without having to be worried about being locked into a certain costumes just to get the best bonuses. For example things like the rocket boots are OK because when you fly with rocket boots all you get are the flames. Rocket boots can still be used with ANY flypose. What you are suggesting is something akin to putting on rocket boots and being FORCED to always fly around with /em flypose2. What if I want to use Rocket Boots with /em flypose3? Bottomline costume items should not hardwire any emotes/animations.

I'd love to see all or even some of those ideas to be done when Power pool customisation gets a pass, but there's just one thing.

Not a booster, please not a booster!

This kind of thing is reserved for when they do it in normal issues, much like the alternate animations for Blasts, Manipulation and Assault powersets we're getting with Issue 19. As a person who brought almost all the boosters myself and is willing to buy more, I cannot agree that things like these should be locked out to those who can buy it.

No thank you. I like having options between my stealth-IO-fitted and non-stealth-IO-fitted sprints, for instance.

You could still do that if you had a "Prestige Sprint" which was customized and the original Sprint separate. Unless there's use for a third form of Sprint that I'm not aware of, of course.

I agree with the OP other than the "Booster Pack" talk. Travel powers are so widely used, they should be a serious focus for power customization and implemented for freeeeee. FREEE!!!!

@Gilia1
I play heroes on Champion.
I play villains on Virtue.

Which itself would be fine with me - but I wonder if there are others that have each sprint slotted some specific way - though unless they're *really* into the running and leaping sets I can't think of what they'd do.

Wasn't how I read the OP, though.

Id personally like to see new powers as part of any booster. Such as Motorcycle, or Swinglines, things of that nature.

So you mean you'll put down your rock, and I'll put down my sword; and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?

I would be quite upset if alternate travel animations were introduced in a booster.

I would love to see travel powers expanded, but not as a booster.

This is the sort of thing that really shouldn't be in a booster. It's basic functionality that we didn't have before, and really should be in the basic game. If we MUST have a Booster, then it should be more stuff still over the more stuff we got in the free Issue.

Obviously we as players want to get as much new content as possible without having to pay extra for it.
That pretty much goes without saying.

But if it came down to the Devs deciding the only way they could afford to spend the time and effort on something like these new travel animations was to charge extra for it via a booster pack I'd rather have the OPTION to pay extra for it rather than never get them at all.

With the economy the way it is people have to get the "silver spoon" out of our mouths and realize we are still pretty lucky to get -anything- new for free any more. We can't keep expecting to think we are entitled to having everything given to us without having to pay extra for at least some of it. To believe we "deserve" it is wishfully naive.

I could go with some free new travel animations and some more complex ones being sold in a booster (e.g., alternate "vehicle/contraption" ones).

Thing is, you can't have it both ways, or at least I'd rather not have it both ways. If we get a new system, such as power customization, I'd rather it came either all free or all paid. Adding powerset customization in an Issue but power pool customization in a Booster pack is just... It makes people feel like they're entitled to it, and then turns around to tell them they're not. It's the kind of cheapshot advertising tactics that I really don't want out of my games. Marketing should be focusing on advertising the game to new players, not to me.

Yes, if it came down to it, I would probably pay for it, but you know what? I'm taking notes. Someone once said that all that matters is whether you pay or not, not whether you like it, but I'm keeping score, and if many of these dick moves happen, I may indeed decide to vote with my money.

Oh, please. Don't give me that. The Dev team is smarter than to open up a can of worms as stupid as that.

A Booster Pack wouldn't be the entire Power Pool customization options.

A Booster Pack would be extra options for Power Customization.

Similar to what they're adding for i19, but probably on a smaller scale.

Extra options? Hell Yes

Paying in a booster for stuff that should be in the game as a regular update? Hell No

Seconded.

And that's where people like Lothic are foolish.

It's not 'entitled' to expect the basic options to be made available (like they did with power customization already and other systems)

We're willing to pay extra, but it has to be for extra.

After all, if our $15 a month doesn't pay for access to the basic content and all the basic systems, what does it pay for?

Eh, personally I think they should make Power Pools and Ancillary/Patron Power Pools able to be color customized and maybe have 1 extra animation on some powers for free, with extra options available as a Booster. (Maybe another Ninja themed booster that gives SJ/SS the Ninja Run animation among other things)
