So, as of today we have about....

766 different power combinations across the 10 ATs (not counting EATs as they are locked into their sets and are kinda excused from this discussion).

We have everything from swords and shields, to sci-fi type energy blasts, to good old fashioned fist-to-face powers to choose from to make our characters, and with the advent of Power Customization (and soon the ability to choose where your powers shoot from), alot of potential has been lost and gained when it comes to our powerset roster.

What I mean by this is that while a group of players may have wanted to emulate the powers of Lanturn Verde long before Power Customization was possible, even writing mock powersets for something like it, nowadays the theme is quite simply done by most any controller with a Verde colored Force Field as a secondary, or Defender with FF/Energy(or Rad, Etc).

So now when coming up with new powerset ideas, we must think of what it could allready fall into. Want Karp melee? Unfotunatley it'd more likely be a new weapon for WM or BA (depending on the orientation). Wanna use the force of some mystical power to hit foes hard in close combat? Kinetic melee says hi, also can be colored purple for psionics. Etc, etc, etc.

But enough of that negativity, lets look at what this thread is for:

Outside of things that'd be covered by re-coloring existing set combos, a new weapon for an existing set, or simply be the same thing as an existing set with slight alteration to the "theme", what powers are we lacking?

(also, dont start on "Water" because Babs will have another heart-attack thinking of how to get it to look right)

Also... Pole-arms.
A nice staff melee powerset.

Magical shooting staffs could (probably) be accomplished with future power customization, but a full melee set of spinning, swinging, swooping pole-arm attacks would be something cool.




Oh, and bicycle repair powers!

Bicycle repair is simply too godly to work on the game's engine methinks

But anywho, staff/wand/cane stuff may come when the Devs figure out how to anchor the "cast" points to weapons, which may be very soon(TM) with the news of being able to shoot blasts out of other places than your hands with i19.

As for a melee staff set, what'd it's niche (outside of being bad-***) be? Extra range in return for...meh?

I'd like to see Psy Blast for Corruptors. Blasters have it, so why not?

I'd also like to see some pet customization for Masterminds. We have pretty good pets in terms of powers but they don't fit every character concept as well. Mercs might need a small buff.

I'd like to see some more "emanation points" for many of the blast powers. Especially for things like Fire and Ice, I'd like to see a backpack with a gun attached via a hose or cable so it looks like you are shooting your powers from a gun or device rather than your hands.

Also, Brutes with Bicycle Repair with be even more strong and pretty.

as for Psylenz, i think those powers have existed since the game's creation.. and the difference is that instead of those two power instances, each and every (blast) power would need to be mapped for each and every (staff/gun/bicycle option) with then a variety of animations depending on the power.

So while it seems simple, it's alot more work as the vet powers are their own entities..

Insect-control based powers. Summoning swarms to damage and debilitate the enemy.

Earth Blast.

Toxic Blast.

Growth/shrinking; but apparently the engine can't handle it.

Shapeshifting to an animal.

I am sorry. I thought you were talking about new pole arm sets, not all the pistol, AR, toaster weapons. My point is if they can program the emanation point for attacks for the black wand then magic wand/staff/pole wouldn't be that difficult by extention. I agree that variation for fire ball to emanate from a pistol, staff, wand, toaster, bicycle would be much more problematic.

Metal Control :

1. Rust Metal
Mag 3 Stun, -Res

2. Midas Touch
Melee Mag 3 Hold, increase prestidge by 10% and item drop rate by 10%, if target died within duration

3. Steel Shackle
AOE Immobilization with 25% chance of hold

4. Titaniumize
Hold with +50% res to all ( this skill works both on ally and enemy )

5. Mirror Shielding
Self only, enemies who damage you would suffer 25% of the damage too, and damages to you aren't lowered.

6. Cleansing Silver
summon an object that would cast pbae cure dot/negative effect every 2 seconds.

7. Midas Grab (Chaining Midas Touch)
Midas Touch with chaining ability

8. Magnet
Area teleport foe + Stun (same as Grav's but not knockdown)

9. Mercury Dopplegenger
Skill : Gain Ability : Toggle
Gain all abilities of target enemy until it's dead.

Well, an item-based control set has been mentioned before - "grenade control," if you like, though it'd have to be mixed (IMHO) with something more traps-ish.

Dark control, though it's partway there already (AOE immob, fear, ST hold, slow/debuff in tar patch.)

Undead control. Immobs with skeletal/decaying limbs clawing their way up, holds that encase an enemy in wrappings, etc.

Cool idea with metal control, but why not have it more metal + magnetism, where there are no damage holds which "metalize" foes, then you can mess with em with the other half of the powerset which is magnetics?

just a thought

and I thought of a whole explosives/espionage kinda set a while back...never posted it tho.

I know you said not to say it, but Water Control is still at the top of my list. Especially because of how re-colorable it is. (But if we get it I'm sure we'll be limited to the 'Ice Palette" to avoid issues).

Gravity Blast. Particularly if they can think of a way to do a nuke that teleports enemies to a center point and damage is partly based on how many you slam together. (Basicallly: make the nuke a pet that has an AAO type power). Would also love to see a high damage PBAoE power with extreme knock up.

Luck/Fortune/Pre-cognizance. Possibly very easy to do without adding new art assets.

Entropy/Chaos/Strange Forces/Logic Manipulation, because it can be played as so many different things (spells, a curse, special technology etc)

Atomic/Molecular Control/Alchemy.

Cloning as an Armor set. Extremely unlikely, but we now have the tech to clone our characters, and even selectively recolor them. I think this would work much better for Scrapper/Brute/maybe Tankers than Masterminds as is usually suggested.

Customisable shapeshifting would be very cool.

Tie certain powers to certain costume slots to simulate Beast Boy style animal forms, or the ability to turn into different materials (metal. flame, brick etc) or whatever else you can think of.

This could be structured around a variety of pools you buy into maybe, or mutually exlcusive forms of some kind. This way the code and power balancing for stone form and gorilla could be the same, they're both the big tough brick/tanker form.
eg you choose Tough form, quick form and flying form and customise you look and FX to be gorilla, dog and eagle for an animorph.
Or pick Tough form, Quick form and firey form to be steel, mercury and phosphorus for periodic table-based transformer like Metamorpho.

The first power in each pool is a toggle to keep that form going (and switch to that costume slot), the other powers are unlockable and only work in that form.

It would probably have to break the power tree like Khelds and VEATs do.
This would be a ridiculous amount of work, by the way, before someone points this out

I'd also like to see characters whose powers revolve around unsupressed combat movement. See my sig for a very lengthy dry post on that.


And self-duplication as an MM set.

They're my big three that just can't be done today.

(Widows make great precogs by the way. Nothing like telling everyone how the next 90s will play out to improve their chance to hit and dodge - Mind Link.
Being stuck to claws and psychic powers kind of spoils it.
And Radiation Emission is a good standby as a reality altering set, Ill/Rad especially. And Rad can work as a probability manipulation set due to Radiation Infection.

Just mentioned these two because they're two of my current group)

hmm, how would the luck/precognition powers work exactly?

from the source material (only example I can think of atm is Jynx from teen titans), the "bad luck" is very envirnment and situation based, where as in CoH we only have 9 powers to convery a huge range of things that could be considered "bad luck"

Riot Control (a device-based control set) would be nice, just so that we can have a Controller/Dominator without obviously supernatural powers.

Gravity Blast is another great one. It'd be like Energy Blast, but with the ability to clump things up as well as scatter them (downside - pure Smashing damage). The T9 as a TAoE, which actually spawns a pet that drops an AoE Teleport Foe, a Soul Drain-like damage buff (that deals no damage) and then a big AoE attack, possibly with knockback from the pseudopet, is absolutely brilliant

I agree with what someone said earlier, we still need Staffs....for sure staffs/polearms. I've seriously been waiting on Staffs since about Issue 2, but alas...it has not come


Also, ever since Demon Summoning's "whip" attacks, I'm ANXIOUSLY looking forward (and HOPING LIKE CRAZY!!!) to a "whip blast set" in the near future, for Corruptors, Defenders, and Blasters! Even Doms! I mean ahhhhhh!!!!! That whip is sooooooooo esquisitely awesome!!! It seriously tempts me to role a completely petless Demon MM just so I can pretend to be a Corruptor "blasting" away with his sexy whips! It has seriously way more pull on me to roll such a weak toon, lol, than even Dual Pistols ever did, before when they were just for MM's.


I am really hoping that this set comes out as a Blast set in the VERY near future....I really really hope!

I'd like to see a grappling set. Throws, body slams, suplexes, etc. It might require more interaction with the opponent than the game engine can handle though.

Just throwing some sample stuff out there (dont want to get too caught up in it since its not the point of this thread, but just to illustrate):


Lucky Shot - (Base power: Build Up (sort of)) Toggle. You and anyone within 25ft of you has a chance to be affected by a Build Up effect at random intervals.

Contagious Fortune - (Base power: Leadership) Your good luck rubs off on your teammates. Any of them who come within 15ft of you pick up additional defense, which stays with them for a time even if they wander away from you.

Siphon Fate - (Base power: ??) You siphon away the positive forces protecting an enemy, stunning it, while providing temporary stun and hold protection to yourself and any teammate nearby.

Windfall - (Base power: ??) When toggled on, all small inspirations that drop during combat will be of the same type as the inspiration located in the top left corner of your inspiration tray. [Option 2: You and all teammates receive 10% more inspiration drops; this power is always on.]

Undo Fate - (Base power: Resurrection) Revives all players within a 25ft radius. Can be used even if the caster herself is dead, to the same effect.

Malediction - (Base power: Sonic Repulsion w/ lowered chances to hit and kb mag) Enemies who come within 10ft of the selected team mate have a chance to slip and fall.

We don't need a "Luck" defense set when we already have Super Reflexes, which even has a power called Lucks in it. People are missing the point of the OP a bit, I think. What he was saying was that you really have to strain your brains now to think of something that can't already be done by recolouring the powersets we have or writing down alternative explanations. Magnetism is covered very well by Gravity Control (my own "grav" actually has the ability to raise air pressure around enemies). Just like "time control" can be emulated with Kinetics (slowing and speeding up time for foes and allies, and undoing bad outcomes with the heal and recovery power). Water can be emulated pretty well with Energy Blast, although I agree it doesn't fulfill the full potential of what water can do (I'd like a hold power where you encase the enemy in a sphere of water and let him drown for a while).

Right now I'm missing staves and spears for melee battle. Also a good knife-throwing set and whips for both control and asault. And weapon sets for dominators in general, since they're heavily elemental right now.

I also suggested a defense set based on intangibility at some point, since it's a mechanic that doesn't fulfill it's potential right now and has seen good examples in media (Catshadow, Miss Deep).

And I'm all for an insect swarm Mastermind set.
