Glad to hear BaBs has landed on his feet. He was my favorite dev for years.

Yeah, I just got an e-mail from Atari about it.

Good lord, I'm scared. Jack is gonna KILL NWN. What a jackass.

Don't be ridiculous. You obviously just don't know the proper way to play that other game. You may think you have played and enjoyed it but you haven't really been enjoying yourself. Jack will present to you the true challenge and adventure that you have always been lacking.

I've been pondering on this ever since I first saw the news on Kotaku some months ago... How CAN one bungle NWN? I suspect we'll find out!

Oh, I don't know Obsidian managed a pretty good job at it. But they bungled Kotor as well. So I guess they have a special gift.

Completely disagree on the NWN front, in terms of campaign they made a much better job of it than Bioware did with the first, I much prefer the second in terms of both campaign and the mechanics they used.

Of course they did do their usual trick of releasing beta software but once patched up it got better (and The Witcher did exactly the same thing, the initial release of that was appallingly buggy and chuggy using the same(ish) engine).

Agreed on KOTOR 2 though. That was really disappointing.

One thing I do love about Obsidian is that they like party based RPGs and their sequels are often more party friendly than the original.

NWN2 might be better than the first, the fact that it is party based is indeed a big plus. But as far as the game itself goes, I wouldn't know.

You see, I never got al that far. I made 4 seperate attempts to start the game over a period of 2 years after release(so plenty of time to patch). And if it would let me past the starting village at all I'd get stopped a 1-10 gaming hours later by having *all* my save games corrupted. That's not to mention numerous random CTD's, lock ups, unresponsive NPCs, buggy quests and even a freaking blue screen.

One time I loaded my game and noticed that somehow my PCs familiar had actually merged with a party member (the gnomish bard fellow, cba to recall his name). When I say merged, I do mean just that. There was only 1 portrait in my interface (that of the familiar, a weasel I believe), but it had the name of the bard. It could still cast bard spells but had for the rest all the atributes of the familiar. I admit that was funny.

Obsidian is never seeing a penny from me again.

LOL, that's a brilliant bug!

I agree with you in some respects, they are awful at handling bugs. But my experiences with NWN2 weren't that showstopping (the Witcher was initially much worse on my machine until they released that extended version).

No.... Not Jay as well. I might just quit right now. I'm sure they'd replace him with competent talent, but he is responsible for so many of my favorite goodies.

I just had a thought. If Christopher Bruce is gone (or any dev/mod), could someone take up that person's former name? I honestly don't know, but I kinda doubt it actually.

It seems that once a dev takes the name of a character, that character sticks with them even after they leave, though I think there was one exception, which was Lord Recluse (Dev), otherwise, you'll notice that no one's taken over the name "Statesman", even if Jack himself might not want the name anymore,

If memory servers there has only been the one change that above poster mentioned. There are a few gone that just don't get used anymore. Of course I haven't been to many of the event where all the dev's supposedly show up, maybe 1 or 2. So I wouldn't know much of that.

Maybe there was no reason to post. *Gets Formal* Move along, nothing to see here.

Haven't read through the whole thread, so this may have been asked and answered already. My understanding is that BABs was Lead Animator. With him gone, who's now in that position? Or was the position eliminated (wouldn't think so)?

Whoever it is, he hasn't decided to come talk to us. I think David is doing all of the communication for the art department now.

Technically, War Witch said she couldn't comment on personnel changes: she didn't confirm the Post's assertion that BaB was no longer there.

But its absolutely certain that BaB is no longer with Paragon Studios, and currently employed with another game developer. I can confirm that first-hand. There's no point speculating on that.

As to who the lead animator is now, it would be another animator. I know there were other animators brought on board a while ago. They probably haven't been formally introduced because that person does no work with customer-facing contact required unlike, say, Dr. Aeon. And Paragon Studios devs are not required to take forum red names or interact with the playerbase unless they voluntarily do so, except in the rare cases its required for their job (even then, they are allowed to communicate through the community reps, as has happened in the past).
