Costumes!
For free costume bits, I'd like to see them get back to basics and revisit the ORIGINAL strategy behind the i0 costumes: provide some generic classic comic book items that could prove versatile for a variety of concepts.
Simple things like some face mask items (like those used as eye details in the full masks category), iconic geometric "full helmet" heads that are a simple perfect sphere, pyramid and cube (in metallic and non-metallic finishes), metallic tights option, some new torsos that have geometric tunnels passing right through the sternum (cylindrical and cubic--this one may be harder than I think due to animations?) and some BASIC geometric tights patterns (no bump map indicating seams, nothing subtle like Vines or Baroque, nothing diamond agey like Stealth and the other myriad great textures Jay introduced when he first got to Cryptic/Paragon)--simple basic geometric patterns in high res format that are evocative of classic spandex wearing superheroes. A few cape options in a similar vein and a few new bold chest details (i.e. I don't think we have a full set of cards chest details, do we?)
As I see it, there are still some basic generic gaps in the CC and I think they could be filled here and there. IMO, some of this low hanging fruit has become ready for harvest. These sorts of items seem like perfect things to put a junior level production artist on. Just keep the art direction clear. We don't need a hundred new pieces an issue, but a return to promise of more character customization per issue would be a good thing IMO and would definitely keep me subscribing.
I said it in another thread and I'll say it here again: as far as I'm concerned, this game lives and dies by the strength and continued and expanding novelty of it's character creator. It behooves marketing, distribution and the devs to work in at least a few costume bits for free with each issue. (That being said, I am extremely enthusiastic about i19 simply because of the new power animations and two measly auras!!)
I quit trying to follow those art threads. There were just too many of them. But the things I'd like to see are:
a traditional Robin Hood like hat
Hats and helms for some of the monsterous heads.(The Egyptian one would be great for Mythological toons)
Skirts/Kilts/Shorts for Monsterous Legs
Some Leggings for Monsterous Legs instead of Boots(using some of the current styles like Valkerie, Stealth, Tech, etc)
Reptile scales, Monsterous Hair, Bio(s), Insect, Organics, as a Skin type
More Gloves for Monsterous Hands (Vanguard esp since we have to earn them)

I'd like some new costumes and I'd love for old costume bits to get touched up with better textures. I'm looking at YOU Tops with Skin - Metal. I love the piece but it looks outdated and there is a glaringly obvious bug that they've never fixed.
Here's hoping for both!

That took me a good few minutes of eye squirming to even NOTICE what the bug was
@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!
When you've used the piece for 6 years you become painfully aware of it. :P Sadly, you do not become used to it. Not in my case anyway! hehe

Hear, hear. The sphere option in particular lends itself to an array of costume types, including astronauts, 50s-style flying saucer aliens, deep-sea divers, Residents tribute bands, a certain fishbowl-themed illusionist villain, etc.

It's funny, as I was struggling to think about the question posed (And fending off the tumbling mountain of desires), "what costumes do you wish to see?"...
The one that rises to the top of my wishes is the round transparent fishbowl helmet!!
And that is exactly what I was thinking... It can cover a lot of different concepts. Just a somewhat generic, somewhat goofy staple that I've always wanted to see in this game, hehe.
I also want to see Monster Feet for non Monstrous legs.
And... I really need a beaver-like tail. And I could use a proper duck bill.
And lots and lots more... And I really want to see things come back to regular issues and not so much of these booster packs.
I have friends who are considering playing, but they've never played mmorpgs and are still not sure about the whole "pay to play thing", you know how it is for first timers...
But then... We have GvE, Wedding, Cyborg, Magic, Science, Martial Arts, Mutant, Mac's Valkyrie set, GoRo Complete Collection (Which would be what they'd get though, I'm sure)... So, that's at least $70 behind the times beyond just buying the game.
As soon as they see that, they see that not only do they have to pay a monthly fee, but the company keeps charging additionally for more content and many people will turn and run (Regardless of how reasonable it may or may not be).
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan
I hope to see the old NPC costumes David spoke of, that Kheldian sash is much needed on many of my characters!

Converting older parts is certainly POSSIBLE, but it's not something we've commited to.

Just for the record, what we've said publically is that the team has refocused and redoubled efforts on taking npc groups and creating commensurate player costume parts whenever technically possible (See: Resistance, Clockwork, and PPD). You'll see more of this in the future as well.

So from now on, any new NPC costumes that will be made will have in mind compatability with player costumes? I kind of guessed this was the direction things were going based on newer groups like the Praetorian Clockwork.

Then can you see if the already-overworked player costume artists could at some point give us something similar to the Kheldian sash? I'm sure a lot of mystic, pirate, and Carnie-style characters would greatly appreciate something like that.

I can think of several of my characters that would look great with a sash like that.
"I do so love taking a nice, well thought out character and putting them through hell. It's like tossing a Faberge Egg onto the stage during a Gallagher concert." - me

Also, can we get a sort of feather detail for use with hats? You may need a couple versions of it in slightly different positions to match most of the hats, but it would be a nice touch.

When are they going to allow costume parts from in-game villians. Like the Carnivals
War Witch: Yay, David, that one's yours. :) Noble Savage: The philosophy going forward is to convert every villain groups parts over to players. As much as we can possibly convert. Noble Savage: Would like to go back and get the coolest older stuff as well. Stay tuned... Castle: Some of those costume parts won't actually work for players Noble Savage: That's why we can't get all of 'em. We'll get the VAST majority though. |
I'm gonna hop on the bandwagon as well and say that I'd REALLY like to see the older villain group stuff become available to players wherever possible, even if it would require more work and prevent new (so to speak) costume pieces. Heck, I know the carnie leggings wouldn't work on characters because they have about a bazillion colors, but a variant that takes two shades and mixes as needed to create a similar effect would be fine with me.
What I want more than anything really is a porcelain mask like the Carnival wears, for BOTH MALE AND FEMALE, or if not that at least a whole face mask very similar to it. I have many characters that would make use of it, even if just for a formal/halloween costume. There's plenty of stuff that NPCs have that would just make sense to give characters.
Heck, do us one better and make it the focus of a future issue to further exemplify the Going Rogue system. Give us a whole mess of classic villain group costume pieces, perhaps some new powersets/proliferation that would tie into it (Dark doms for Carnival/Skulls, Fire/Thermal defenders for Hellions, Psionic corruptors for Carnival/Rikti) and toss in some new arcs that might make reference to a bunch of criminals in Paragon starting to break away from their groups and turning their abilities to the fight for good, or on the redside of the spectrum, a bunch of villain group splinter cells and soloists moving in on the Rogue Isles and upsetting the balance of power. I think it'd be a fantastically fun and well-recieved issue.

There are a few older parts I would really like to see make into the player's hands. The sash has been requested for years, and is at the fore front. Past that it is pretty much the PPD hard suit, and then the newer stuff.
There are still some Clock work parts we don't have, as the i19 shots show. I really want some of those, and more of the PPD costumes than what we got. If that is the plan, that is not such a bad thing.
I do think it needs to be remembered that there are some players that really want those old options just as much as they want newly made options.

So I love the features announced in i19, but like many others I want to know one thing.
Are there any new costumes?
I look at David's posts over the past few months, and I had hope, not seeing costumes listed in the features makes me sad though.
