Storyline for new Superman movie will be....

It's a good story, but going through the origin again is unnecessary.

They should hit the ground running. Clark is already Superman. Lois and Clark are already married. Lex is already Superman's archenemy.

Are there seriously people out there who don't know Superman's origin?

They should just call it: Smallville - The Movie...

Actually I take that back, I'm pretty sure even in Smallville he fights other Metahumans, this one is sounding like another movie where he fights no one of importance.

Article isn't doing much to instill a sense of awesome and joy for this Superman movie. Really hoping that this is all rumour and hearsay.

Considering that the Superman: Birthright story ended with Superman fighting off a fake Kryptonian "invasion" engineered by Luthor, I'd say there's plenty of possibilities for awesome fights if that really is what they're drawing inspiration from...

(I haven't read Birthright, so this post is based off of the article linked - correct me if I'm wrong)

You're right that there is a lot of cool potential there. But it sounds like it's cool potential hampered with Clark soul-searching. About halfway into the movie, we'll get him telling us about Krypton and how it exploded and how he came to Earth. Then Ma will tell him to do what he feels is right and three-quarters through, he'll put on the suit. It really does sound a bit like Smallville: The Movie.

Well i hope they get someone better to play the part this time, instead of a skinny kid that only got the part becasue he looked like Mr. Read.

You mean Christopher Reeve ..... but ya Singer's film was a total wank fest for Donner.

I'm 90% positive hollywood cannot manage a solid superman movie. The people with money won't green light anything worthwhile.

Sounds like a bigger snorefest than Superman Returns. And I have a bit of a hard time believing that Zod will be the villain; he was the Big Bad on Smallville last season, and studios always tend to underestimate the audience and assume that Smallville fans will see some other dude cast as Zod and wonder "duhhhhh why doesn't he look like Callum Blue". (I suppose Superman Returns would inherently not have suffered from this imaginary problem since it was meant to be a sequel to Superman 2.)

I'd read yesterday the villain would be Brainiac. I'll have to see if I can find the source.

This.

Superman is one of the most recognized fictional characters in the world. The only people who don't know his origin story are the people who won't see this movie anyway.

From the article:

...the studio doesn't have time to go through extensive rewrites as they need to get a new Superman movie in production by 2011 or they'll lose the rights to make said film.
*sigh* This quote makes me think this is going to be a rushed, poorly written piece of crap "contractual obligation" movie. I'll be pleasantly surprised if the movie is good, but I'm not holding my breath.

This is the only Superman comic/graphic novel I own. Birthright puts some newish spins on the Superman origin, and the action that happens through the novel is relevant /to/ his origin. It is also a /good/ kind of Luthor that we haven't seen in film at all to this point, and even though I know his origin, and have seen it done numerous times, if this IS what they are planning, I'm totally good to see this movie.

That said, I highly doubt this is what they're doing. They might /borrow/ elements of it, but they've repeatedly talked about how they came up with /new/ take on Superman, and how the story was being written from the ground up.

It's pretty ridiculous that DC hasn't put out more high quality superhero films, considering how many good stories and writers they have to draw from. I really hope that Green Lantern will show them just how easy it can be so they get off their ***** and start pumping out the kind of films that we've been wanting to see.

i wouldnt put the blame on DC, but on Warner Bros. WB has plenty of other franchises going for it that they never gave a rat's *** about comic book movies that weren't Batman or Superman. Here's hoping that starts to change soon.

Though if they are doing this for a Superman movie, i am less than hopeful for it. *sigh*

I don't get the "I don't want another origin story, everyone knows Superman's origin" stuff. Everyone knows Batman's origin, Spidey's origin and the Hulk's origin, and we've had those redone, and hell, Spidey's is being redone, again, just a few years later. Sure, the Hulk movie kinda sucked, but you can definitely make an awesome origin story, even if "everyone knows it" or "has seen it already." And in the case of Birthright, it /is/ a unique take on it, with some /very/ cool stuff along the way. Superman's origin at least hasn't been on the bigscreen since 1978...

I think the issue is that we'd rather see screen time dedicated to other things than the origin, which we already know how it plays out.

One of the things that I always liked about Lois and Clark: The new adventures of Superman was how Clark didn't go straight from Smallville to Metropolis. He wound up there after having travelled the world writing stories for small papers like the Borneo Gazette.

This gave Clark a better sense of the world and his place in it. It was Metropolis, and it's large population, that gave him the idea to use a costume to conceal his indentity. As he'd been able to use his powers here and there without much fear of being recognized but the 1st time he uses them in Metropolis he realizes he's being stared at by passer-bys.

Thus the suit is fasioned by Martha using material from his ship. Mainly his baby blanket.

That said. Sounds like a horrible plot for a movie. We've been force fed his origin story how many times now? I'd much rather it jump straight in like Captain Foamerang said. Maybe not so far in that they are married but atleast have him established in the city with some meta's to fight.
