I'm more concerned with the writing and overall interpretation of the character and universe they go for.

Hm, looks like they want to have General Zod show up.

Was kind of hoping for Brainiac and/or Doomsday.

Ah well.......... as long as the new Zod at least once does the classic line; "KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!"

Well Nolan is producing, and I'm hoping he'll have some input on the screenplay. The only thing that will just make me go "ugh" over the whole film is if it has the typical "I'm not human, I'll never fit in, got to do what I can to belong." plot to it. To me Superman doesn't care about fitting or blending in with humans but inspiring them. Superman wants to show people that there's nothing wrong with doing the right thing.

Which is why Christopher Reeve's Superman is the best.

Some hot sexy Zod, I love it.

I'm suddenly picturing Gerard Butler doing his "This! Is! SPARTA!!!" voice for the "You WILL bow down before me!!" rant at the beginning of the first Superman movie.

This is so what I am hoping for... I really, really want a good heroic superhero movie and there is probably no better character to pull it off than Superman. I want a brightly-coloured hero, doing good, making the right decisions, saving people, inspiring people and not killing the bad guys.

As I mentioned in the Smallville thread, when they rebooted Star Trek, one of the things that Abrams said he liked was that it was a positive, hopefull view of the future and that he felt that was something that was needed in the real world at this time. I agree. With all the negativity, fear and hate in today's world, I am aching for a hero that stands for something more than vengeance and punishing evil doers in a sadistic manner.

I'm hopeful that we won't get another origin story. I think Superman's origin is well-established enough in popular culture that we can skip it for this movie. Maybe have a few references to Krypton exploding and him coming to Earth if you really have to, but not another whole movie.

I hope he doesn't employ the tired, over-used "slow-mo in the middle of the action sequence" thing. I mean a bit here and there can punch things up, but less is more in this case.

And General Zod? Really? He's cool...I guess...kinda...but HE'S BEEN DONE IN A SUPERMAN MOVIE BEFORE!!!! OMG, COME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW FOR A CHANGE!! Brainiac, Doomsday, Darkseid, Mr. Mzxyzxtplwtf, ANYTHING but Luthor or Zod.

I agree with all of this but especially the second part. There are so many great villains to choose from. Let's not reuse the ones that have been done already.

No, it'll be great. You see Luthor and Zod are partners in this real estate scheme...

I wouldn't mind a better take on Luthor. I liked his use in Public Enemies. I guess it depends on how they plan to approach this.

But a million times no to yet another round of his origin.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Just have a paragraph of text at the beginning that capsule summarizes his origin. By now every generation of Superman fan should know it.

The thing here is that Zod was used once, long ago in a movie that changed directors midstream as well as some other setbacks......

Seriously, if you haven't seen it go get the Richard Donner version of Superman 2.

Zod is also one of the few enemies that can match Superman in a fight. So if its a choice between Luthor in another stupid real estate-terraforming scheme or Zod being recycled then I say....

....................KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!

Superman and Green Lantern should take care of that.

Hm, think Superman will get to beat up a mean bully truck driver again? That was perhaps the most hilarious part of Superman 2 for me when he pays that guy back for humiliating him in front of Lois. Shows that Superman is human in terms of feelings and emotions in a way.

That's because the general public only know of Lex Luther and General Zod. While those who watch Smallville may have been exposed to some others from Superman's rogue's gallery, in a sometimes radically different form, for the general public at large, that isn't the case.

Didn't they already do that in Donner's part 2. Luthor helps Zod and he gets a small coastal property called Australia in exchange.

I'm kind of meh on Zod as the villain that Kal-El faces off against. Superman vs. Luthor I wouldn't mind seeing again, the others that were mentioned would probably do better in a sequel. Also as mentioned skip the origin. It's pretty much been ingrained into the pop culture world. So there's no need to tell something that people already know.

Aside from Luthor wanting Austrailia as a reward being a bit odd, for a man who is the self proclaimed greatest criminal mastermind on Earth, he was an idiot when he approached Zod in Superman 2.

He thinks they won't kill him because he can give them the son of Jor-El......Luthor you are an idiot for thinking that Zod wouldn't keep his word.

Now what Luthor should have done is what he does in Superman Returns, does some research and locate some museums that have certain shiny green rocks in their meteor collection and steal some and THEN approach Zod knowing that he has some literal life insurance. Also I can't see Luthor wanting to share Earth with Zod and by killing the three Kryptonian villains himself, Luthor would come out the hero.

Yeah...it's almost like there hasn't been a truly *good* Superman movie made yet.

Superman 1 and 2 despite some flaws as well as studio politicking were good. A bit dated now perhaps but still fun to watch, especially the super fight in Metropolis in number 2.

Here's hoping that Warner Bros. was taking notes as they observed the Neo vs Super Smith fight in Matrix Revolutions so they can design the super fight in the next big superman movie.

Also I still say that if they really want to beef up the next Superman movie, forget Zod, have Luthor only involved in the background as it were and BRING ON THE HULK.....er sorry I meant DOOMSDAY. Any similarity between those two characters is of course purely coincidental.

Forgot to mention: but that scene in the diner at the end of Superman 2 when Clark deals with the trucker for beating him up in front of Lois truly proves that bystanders in comic books and comic book movies are unobservent chuckleheads.

1. Trucker tries to gut punch Clark with all his strength
2. We hear a mettalic CLANK as his fist impacts
3. Trucker staggers back holding his hand in agony as we hear the sounds of cracking bones
4. He then does several RPM's as Clark sends the stool spinning
5. Hefted onto the counter and with one casual shove is sent flying into the pinball machine.....

And NONE of these people with the possible exception of the waitress who has a big smile on her face can do the math and figure out that the local bully just got a beat down from Superman???????
