The Ravenwolf Review: Razer Naga MMOG Laser Mouse
Nice review. I like the look of it with the lights and all (ooo shiney!) but anything more than a scroll wheel never get used by me. Let us know what it's like to play with it.

Looks good. Very nice review.
Thanks, I had asked about a month ago if any CoX users had this mouse and got a bunch of thread derail posts.
Nicely done!

*sighs* WTB a version for lefties please
The Razer lefty mouse has all of TWO extra thumb buttons, yahoo :P
Shadow, I did enjoy the review and I'd be very interested in a follow up to it.
The types of things I'd like to see in a follow up, if you made one, are:
After several hours of playing are you getting hand fatigue from the smaller size and the button placement?
How quickly did it take you to get used to the button placement?
Does it still feel good after a couple of weeks?
If you could come back in few weeks with answers to those questions I'd really appreciate it.

I'll just copy-past my reply from The Manor:
OK, that's what I was waiting for. Thank you.
I've now decided that the Razer Naga is not for me. I don't care about the 1-12 buttons, as they only mimic my standard number keys, or my Numpad. Character profiles are useless to me, as I define what the Numpad Keys do in the bind file I make for each of my characters. That would only duplicate what I've already done.
But the main reason I'm not buying it is the location of the thumb buttons, or as you called them, the forward and back buttons. I make use of those buttons A LOT. And not just while gaming, but surfing the web, graphic work, and more. Plus, I've customized my Logitech's Search button so that pressing it sends the CTRL+V command (i.e. Paste) to my computer. I use that function more than anything else with this mouse, outside of gaming, since CoH doesn't recognize it, sadly.
Finally, I really prefer a wireless mouse.
I'm glad the Naga works for you, and I hope you enjoy it. For now, I'll stick with my Logitech MX 620.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:

This just makes me angrier that the Onza doesn't have a release date yet.
Eislor, I do intend to come back for a part 2 once I've gotten used to the Naga and learned how to do some of the fancier stuff.
Now for a little bit more detail on the modes and buttons.
There are 3 main modes:
Basic 123 - Makes the Thumb Grid respond to the 1- 0 and _/+ across the top of your keyboard as 1-10, 11/12
Advanced NUM - Makes the Thumb Grid respond the same way for numbers above, except on your NUMPAD. This benefit is great for making binds to your NUMPAD for use with your Naga
CoH Naga UI - Pops up a tray just like the ones you can already have, (and counts as one) that is 3x4. Your Thumb Grid responds to it in the same way it would your normal trays in Basic 123. You can use 11/12 to scroll through your trays as -/+
Finally there is the maverick approach. You can fully customize your buttons through the Macro Editor. I haven't played around or figured it out yet, but it's supposed to open up a lot of possibilities through infinite profiles.
I've had the Razer Naga for a while now. The numbers on the side are much bigger than you think. The pictures they have on the Razer website make the whole mouse look smaller than it really is. It's not gigantic by any means, but I think just the right size.
Now... if you have banana hands, the mouse might be slightly difficult to use.
Playstation 3 - XBox 360 - Wii - PSP

I'd like to hear how you feel about it after you had a chance to break it in.

I personally have my naga sitting around doing nothing since the mouse is far too small for me, and with it's claw orientation with the thumbpad really hurts my shoulder.
Also was more than a tad disappointed in the 'naga' hotkey interface pretty much just being a new hotkey bar. And it rather failed to handle being switched to numpad mode entirely. Ah one other thing the Naga UI mode ends up pre-empting your ability to actually alt/ctrl click other powers, so if you need more than one tray open, you're going to need to mouse.
Given my playstyle [specifically with MMs] I've determined that I'm better off using another mouse [I like the shape and feel of the G9 honestly] and use the keyboard or a keypad [g13 or nostromo] for additional buttons.

Just to chime in on the subject:
I recently purchased a Razor Naga Mouse. and I must admit, I love it. I agree, out the box its functionality for CoX is very limited, to say the least. but I found that the keypad on the side of mouse is good for, in my case, a very specific usage set: key binds.
KK, heres what I do: the Naga in basic 123 mode corresponds to the same keys as your keyboard numbers. What it also responds to is keybinds made with those numbers.
What I do is make all my powers that I want as keybinds as lshift+# versions. I then open up a new powers tray, vertical it, make space for it on the far right of my lower right UI, and put all keybound powers in that tray corresponding to their number. Anything over in that tray ive trained myself to know is accessed by pressing lshift + the corresponding number on my Naga. Since its essentially the same buttons used on your keyboard, the keybinds work, from the mouse, without having to click them physically.
It works pretty well for me that way, and makes me love the Naga for it.
Hope that helps!

Great review.
now on to my criticism's on the product itself
too many buttons really, more to go wrong
and given the fact that my mice take a pounding from fps's, razer's and me don't have a good track record. 5 different razers bit the dust. left mouse button failing under pressure, pcb cracked each time...

The goal for the mouse-thumbpad should be to free up your left hand.
** this is in general, assuming a right-handed mouse.
Let's Dance!
As a lefty, I normally can't use fancy mice because they only seem to come in right-hand versions. The right-handed ergonomics quickly turn your left hand into a numb claw.
I use symmetrical mice on my computers. <shrug>

Useful review but I'll stick with my Copperhead and my Nostromo n52

I enjoyed your review, Shadow, and am glad you decided to show off the lights at the end. You know the value of throwing the viewer a bone.
No Naga in my future, however. I'm content with the standard wireless rodent.

i make stuff...
Does the Naga have the same issue as other Razer mice with the un-intentional double-clicks and un-intentional unpressing the right mouse button?
This annoys the hell out of me on my Copperhead. I so regret getting a Razer!
@Ghostwind - So far, in the month since I started using my Naga, I have not experienced a double-click issue. I do have an issue half the time where I click on a character at the character select screen and it clings and tries to move the character to another slot. Outside of that, the clicking and response of the mouse haven't shown any issues.
As for the right-button issue, I've never been able to use the mouse for movement. I'm an Arrow Keys guy. In my gameplay I don't need to hold the mouse buttons down, so I will not be able to comment as to whether this issue happens on then Naga.
As the mouse ages, if this issue is Razer-wide, then perhaps it could start showing up.
Perhaps another player here could chime in with some of their experiences.
Heyas All and Boogedy Boogedy!!
I've recently seen several threads asking about mice and the Naga in particular. While reading reviews and watching stuff online, several people have had trouble seeing the black Naga against most people's blask backgrounds.
I have purchased one and decided to make a review of how it looks. If you're looking for Tech Specs and stuff you can read on their site or the box, then you may not fully appreciate this. For those of you who really want to get a feel for how this mouse looks and how it may fit your hands, then tune in and Get IMBA!
