Excuse me? You wanted to do 3 months of just the 3 of you? What would be the point in that? So your choice is to end it even earlier?
In 100% fairness, doing that declares CR on the winner, because he won immunity last month. So yeah, we'd really be done. Thanks?
Could have made the last month an actual nice theme to go out on and all. Instead we get to end on non-participation.
Sorry, I'm at work and typing from my iPhone, so I'll be quick and follow up when I get home:
I'm not trying to put a sour end to a great contest. I just know that the other 2 artists actually took time to draw and create art for this month...whereas, I did not. That is my fault, and mine alone. I threw together screenshots to just have an entry this month, rather than take the time and create something. That's my own mistake for thinking that the artists that stayed in WOULD carry over to next month. To me, it doesn't seem fair that Shia and I have to battle it out for being the ones that stayed in. Especially if my piece were to beat out his, when I really didn't put forth any effort, and he did. |
LoL...your doddles are better than my masterpieces. I just didn't want my crap piece to be of any influence of determining who goes to the final month versus CR.
I guess what I'm trying to say is: I had planned for a pop quiz, and when half the class didn't show up, the quiz then turns into the final exam. If I had known that...I would have "studied harder". ...so you deserve to face CR in the final month (If it's ok with Wassy, and the rest of the voters). Technically (like Wassy said), CR had immunity this month, so it would have come down to yours vs mine to see who faced CR next month right? So then it's settled...I won't drop out, but rather concede the victory to you. There's no "immunity" to win this month, so you automatically move on to the final round. That sounds good to me. |
Bah, the majority of this contest is just showing up and posting something, and it's good practice to have a deadline. Stick around and see what happens. :P

Stop doing it!
1) Shia
2) CR
3) Pyro
Now being that this is my vote, I don't think you should DQ yourself Pyro, you've done some really good stuff in the past and this is no different. Everyone has had time issues, it happens. Just sit back and see how it finishes. You never know a couple 1st place votes could have big effects here!

This one is a very close one, and I think they all deserve #1, so I decided to vote them all #1... kinda I also really love the humor in all of them.
1.1 Christopher Robin
1.2 Pyronympho
1.3 Shia
Regardless of pyros choice im just gonna toss out my three votes because if I don't vote and assume Pyros sticking to their guns and quitting id be rarrrg when they decide to instead jump back in and I didn't vote .
on the other hand if they really do follow through and quit you can just ignore my votes

The Guide to BURN
I can't speak for anyone else but personally I have more than a dozen hours into my piece in concept, drawing and seaming all the pieces together in photoshop... and I'm still working on it now even though it won't do a damn thing for me in this contest. My main goal from the outset of this was to challenge myself, tackle subjects/mediums I might never have tried otherwise (sidewalk chalk hunh wuuut?) and to grow as an artist... I would say I succeeded.
If it's over and I've won then great, thanks to all who participated/voted/followed along. At least I know the immunity that led to the final result came from a hard fought and hotly contested month (a mere 3 points decided the win) where I put more hours work, by far, into my entry than into any other artistic project I've ever taken on. If I had my way though the final 5 would still be in it and I would've happily duked it out with any them in a December's grand finale that people would be still talking about years later.
If it ends now I can honestly say I gave it my best and I am proud to be your 2010 FArt Champion...
Until we know for sure how this whole thing is going to turn out though I think Amerikatt, Deebs and others have the right idea...
put the final three pieces in your favorite order as if your vote counted. If it doesn't you've lost nothing and if it does, you'll be glad you did.
Yes, Caemgen wins.
See, this overall battle really does go to the people who dropped, not for reasons of being busy or something came up, but when they made big shows of taking their ball and going home. More than once we had self-disqualifications over-ruling my own judgements on pieces that would or would not qualify. And this slew really defined what happened with the competition.
This last drop out, forcing everyone's hand into whether we got a last battle by Pyro's good graces or not is just the cherry on the cake, and has totally soured my taste for the whole thing.
I'll give Shia and CR a final theme if they want to do something a little more epic for their last show, but otherwise, CR wins.
NOOOOO Pyro!
Does this mean the fire sale is over and no more flamey stoof for sale? I'm sure this will make these items supa rare now and unique and some day only like one flamey person will be able to claim these as their costume and no else will be allowed to wear them. So to avoid any future heart "burn" I declare Fireballer as the final approved flamey costume wearing toon! Flamey stoof be mine! All you other flamey stoof wearers better stop wearing yours now 'cuz you be copyrightin on my mojo...kthxbai!
All kidding aside, yes it is a bummer to see you have to drop Pyro. Ironic your burned-out theme sort of summarizes how this year's FArt burned out.
And Wassy, considering previous months you made the call to keep the elimination or not...your reaction seems, um, contradictory to me on this month. Why not alter the rules again and just say no immunity this month since we are down to less then three? If Pyro really wants out and you want this to be the last month, then why not wave your FArt-wand again while there is still most of the week left and just make this month the no-hold-barred "two men enter, one man leaves" kind of thing now? Especially since the interest has waned so much by the contestants and now apparently you seem pretty frustrated too, seems like this month is just as good as any to call it the last no immunity winner takes all kind of thing in my opinion.
Anyways, regardless of final decision - gl to the last contestants. Was fun while it lasted.

Anyway, I do feel the need now to clarify a couple points:
1) I did not take my ball and go home - I took both of them. I have a strict "No Ball Left Behind" policy.
2) You've called me a liar before so I'm sure based on the same evidence you'll choose to ignore this truth since it doesn't fit into how you wnat to view things but I withdrew out of a point of integrity, something which is important to me.
I had no problem with the hot chick rule, in fact I immediately started trying to think up way to have fun with it. Then I broke the rule (by mistake) and once I noticed I withdrew. I included just one person in that particular art - Alice. And yes, you did say she qualified for the hot chick rule and I overrode your judgement... Sorry, but being the artist I happen to know that when I was creating the image I was trying to create the image of a 11-13 year old girl... My skill (or more rightly, lack there of) probably left the age a bit ambiguous but I knew my intentions.
I explained this as my reasoning but apparently you think it was silly. I don't know, maybe you have no problem with objectifying little girls but I do. I didn't feel it was right to hold up what I intended to be a young, preteen girl as a sex object... And I also did not feel it was right to be dishonest about my intentions as to what age I meant for her to be.
So yeah, your judgement was to objectify a kid and let me continue. I overruled that judgement and DQ'd myself from the contest. I would choose upholding the rules over sexualizing kids any day.
So yeah, I took my balls and went home.

Hug it out *******!
I think this sort of contest is good for the art community here. Wassy took on the aggravation of running one. We owe her a collective THANK YOU. There is always going to be disagreement about things like rules, personality clashes, etc. But the bottom line is that someone took it upon themselves to make something happen. Thank you Wassy (and helpers Frost, Foo, etc.).
Pyro--
You need to understand that the world is built upon ******** as much as hard work and effort. And this is very true in art. Sometimes something thrown together in 5 minutes IS better than something that took weeks of labor. Sometimes it's not better but people just like it better. Sometimes your work simply wins or loses because of the specific audience at the time.
Art is like poker. You don't talk about what's going on in your hand. You put it out there and see if it flies. You don't give excuses or pre-judge it for the audience, because then you lose their honest reaction and the opportunity to learn from it.

"I'AM SATANS FAVORITE CHILD!!"

Well, lets just play on this infallabile integrity of yours, Caemgen. YOU said I called you a liar. Not me. *I* said if you say "Not to be a jerk/sarcastic/condescending, etc. etc." 5 times in a row, you ARE being those things. If you have to preface everything you say with a warning that its going to come off rude, THAT'S A GIGANTIC RED FLAG THAT YOU ARE BEING RUDE. I'm rather surprised that that sort of thing hasn't come up in your day-to-day dealings before.
But instead, you turned that into me bluntly saying that I called you a liar and state it as fact every time you can. Yes, you truly are a shining beacon of truth in this dark time of injustice.
Wassy, I know your in school, and that's why I tried to use the example earlier to explain where I was coming from. If I had known before hand that THIS month would determine who went on to the final round, I would have actually drawn or attempted to draw / create a piece, rather than a screenshot throw together.
Expecting a pop quiz, and the professor turning it into the final exam b/c all of the students didn't show up isn't cool. Some notice that THIS is a biggie would have been a good thing. I'll stay in this month, and let the votes decide. If it's too late, and CR / Shia want to duke it out next month with the new theme, that's fine too. If CR is the winner now, b/c of rules and that "what's the point of having just the 3 of you"...well, that's great too. Py |
This is a very inaccurate comparison. Since I never ONCE said there would be no elimination this month, its more like coming to what you were told was an exam, ASSUMING it would be a quiz because of attendance, not studying, and then still getting your exam. And then you set off the sprinklers on your way out.
I am sorry if I left the impression you had the integrity to actually come right out and call me a liar. You did not. Rather you just said that when I said something I didn't mean it. Yes, sorry I was not totally clear about that.
And just so we can all see exactly how you said it, here we go:
I wasn't going to say anything else in the thread because my points were all "countered" with paragraphs starting with "Not to be <insert insult here>, BUT" (which of course means you're being exactly that) for me to really consider it a debate anymore, but you so completely and totally missed my point with that example that I have to step in and clarify before I'm credit with a buying local art movement that I find insane. It had nothing to do with LITERALLY BUYING LOCAL. The point was I could take the time to do some research, listen to the advice of people in the field, spend the same money, get a BETTER product, and make sure my consumer dollars worked to benefit a community/industry I like to buy from. There happens to be a lot of farms in driving distance that have what I want, but I also have gotten beef from a farm Vermont in the past because I liked their operations.
You hinged on this localvore thing and started splitting hairs over it and totally lost the point that it was an example where, as a consumer, the bottom line isn't your only best interest. If you want to keep getting commissions, it would also be in your best interest to spend your money and/or time in ways that will ensure you'll be able to KEEP getting commissions, ideally having even a larger choice of even better ones. I can't believe you even need to debate that. Good God, an artist worth commissioning is an artist worth commissioning no matter where they/you are. I'm saying that money spent on contests or tantalizing inexperienced artists into doing commissions when they really shouldn't be is a poor use of funds towards the community, and there are much better ways of encouraging learning artists. |
Thank you! My point remains! If you have to preface all your "points" with a warning that its going to come off as rude... you're being rude!
I wasn't calling you a liar, I was calling you RUDE! I didn't say EVERYTHING YOU EVER SAID EVER wasn't true. I said, as we can plainly see, that when your points start with the warning that they're going to come off as an insult several times in a row, THEY ARE IN FACT INSULTING. They are insulting in the way you're warning about, e.g. "Not to be condescending, but so what?" is condescending.
I am very very willing to think that you might not have meant to be a raving jerk. But seriously. HONESTLY. You think its perfectly civil for (including PMs) the past roughly 10 comments you make to me to start with "Be forewarned, this sounds totally insulting". Really? REALLY?! You don't think that would either offend a person OR seem like you're blowing off every input they ever give you? If not, sign me up for Caemgenland, because I want to insult the hell out of people like that and have it be OK.
Either own up to the rudeness, or dispute the fact that you don't think that sort of behavior is in any way rude at all. But don't get your panties all in a twist and start making untrue accusations in a post about your high moral character.
Hug it out *******!

LMAO...love the drama this event creates!
You artist and your perversions. Hey, I thought there was a one-click rule on this stuff? Shia seemed to cover Statesman's junk pretty good. I am pretty disturbed by seeing part of Battlemaiden's actual nipple in ChristopherRobin's piece though. Having BM look like a she-male is pretty funny though!
I vote for:
1. Pyro
2. Shia
3. ChristopherRobin
Well, as it turns out, we now only have three battlers left! Being as such, there's one elimination this month and next month will be the final fight.

The theme this month was Icon Snafus. Full details can be found here.
As always, vote in a 1, 2, 3 format. Voting will close Friday, Sept. 3rd at midnight US Eastern time.
