He couldn't let Diana have all the fashion plate fun

Actually he did...really minor changes here

Yellow on a stealth costume is silly (yes, I realize he's dressed up as a bat).

He got it half right, anyway. Maybe he'll go all the way next time.

So.... back to the Burton look?

The emblem/cloak clasp gets a "hmmm." But the illustration makes the emblem look like a large medallion sitting on his chest, rather than part of the costume. Feels a little out of place.

@Rylas

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.

Yeah...I'm thinking it's a gadget of some sort.

I really don't understand their insistence on fiddling with iconic costumes.

hey Artist Guy, it's BATMAN you're drawing, he doesn't need your 'personal touch', okay?

There's an exclusive look at the tinkered costume at the LA Times Hero Complex blog's extensive interview with Grant Morrison. Morrison doesn't talk much about the costume itself but does elaborate on his take on the Batman's character, which he hopes to shift away from the post-Miller borderline-psychopathic vigilante and more toward a spiritual seeker. Restoring the early-60s yellow insignia may seem like a minor detail, but it's a subtly bold statement about Morrison's coming plans for the Dark Knight. (And he's stopped wearing his underwear on the outside of his tights.)

Morrison needs to be thrown under a bus and left there till he gets brain damaged and maybe that'll cure him of his stupid writing. Seriously, doesn't he get that every single one of his stories gets retconned nearly as soon as he leaves the book.

As far as the "new design" it's just going back to the late 90s batman look, but better...

And as far as the emblem... it's there for a reason... to save bruce money and his overall life. He uses it to draw attention there so that people shoot there and he wears extra kevlar there so that it is much easier to survive.

They've been doing this for years, where've you been? Batman's costume has been fiddled with from the almost the beginning, and it gets fiddled with again every time he's in a new show or movie.

Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.

I gotta side with Frank here- a spiritual seeker would stop dressing up and fighting crime in fairly short order. =P

On the other hand if he wanders into some kind of Moench/Gulacy/Day Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu territory I might actually tune in....

I actually really liked what Morrison said about 'Batman Inc.'.

With all due respects to Bruce, I always thought his talents were even better suited to running the Bat-Family and his business empire in the pursuit of his cause than to just go and beat up thugs. There are... lesser people who can do that just as effectively. But Bruce is one of a kind in the mental department (well, there's Ra's...). Never mind that someone else is wearing the mantle now.

There's more to it, actually. The belt is different, there's more armor on the gauntlets, and the batbriefs are finally gone.

Only because the crapass writers that replace him ***** and whine that their favorite characters got changed or something; which results in the status quo being changed to Pre-Morrision.

To be fair...I've only read one of his pieces so far, "Gothic" from LotDK, and I found it blehck with a shifting writing pattern that took away from the overall story...

All the stories he has written on that I've heard of are garbage in concept and shouldn't have gotten past the editors, but whatever...

Do you mean with regards to Batman or with regards to Morrisson in general? Cause I'll have you know that the original Marvel Boy mini rocks the ************* Casbah.

Batman. I haven't really heard of his work outside of Batman.

Starting to resemble the Arkham Asylum costume a little bit there, especially with those armored gauntlets, though the arkham one is still cooler.

And yeah, they should do something else with that chest logo.

I am more concerned of Batman becoming a McDonald's Franchise that is mentioned in that article. Not sounding good to me.

I can already see the McBat Special coming out of this. Oh Gods.

I dont remember what series it was in, but at one point i recall in the comics him saying why he had a yellow chest symbol. Apparently he found it created a subconcious effect in the bad guys to shoot at the center of his body mass where he had the most protection.

You forgot the Bat Fries, the Utility Melt, and the Cowl Cup.

Yes, that's its function, as I stated above...The suit is nomex over kevlar. The kevlar is extra thick under the symbol to protect him. This allows for easier movement while still protecting. The cape is also a heavier nomex/kevlar bi-weave with weighted tips. His cowl has a re-enforced neck piece and the cowl itself is fitted and has some metal bits in it...though he does obviously have some pure clothe ones and non-fitted ones (for stand ins)

His suit is also supposed to be lead lined and such...

the more armored suit used the nolan verse uses a ceramic based bullet proofing... and different style of cape.

I recommend JLA: Earth 2 graphic novel. He really gets Martian Manhunter better than most any other writer, and somehow manages to make Aquaman into a bonified bada$$. The fight between Ultraman and Martian Manhunter is only 4 panels but well worth the price of admission alone.

I'm not sure a big codpiece is any improvement....
