It might (and I stress might) overwrite another tip, but if you do a morality mission all the other tips get dismissed anyways so why not just delete or dismiss any regular tips you are not going to use?

Because I'm old and common sense and myself are rarely best friends...

Or, as Homer Simpson says... DOH.

Sorry for me missing that obvious fix. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

Ok I have a question about "normal missions".
My 35 scrapper is vigilante cruising the isles. I did paper missions all the way up to mayhem, got the bonus, and was introduced to the new contact. I did the the mission for that and turned it in, got a tip, and did that, but after that no tips, and no missions from contacts! Does that mean I can only go do paper missions up to get an introduction to get normal missions?

I know I can join other morality missions and they will count, just wondering why I cant get any normal missions to get tips. In the guide it does not list normal missions from contacts!

Thanks

A vigilante in the isles can:
  • Do villain/vigilante (vigilante tips in the isles count for villain alignment) tip missions.
  • Do rogue missions but not get credit for them.
  • Do paper missions.
  • Do mayhem missions.
  • Start or participate in any Strike Force.
  • Join villains doing their contact missions.
  • Street hunt.
A rogue in Paragon can:
  • Do hero/rogue (rogue tips in paragon count for hero alignment) tip missions.
  • Do vigilante missions but not get credit for them.
  • Do police band missions.
  • Do safeguard missions.
  • Start or participate in any Task Force.
  • Join heroes doing their contact missions.
  • Street hunt.
My favorite tip hunting ground is in the Agincourt area of Nerva as the longbow bosses there are easy to pick out. It doesn't matter if the critters defeated are conning grey, they will still drop tips as long as the defeated enemy is level 20+ and not in the AE.

As long as both your character and the enemy are level 20 or over, yes. Not including the AE critters, of course.

I've gotten tips on my level 50 character by defeating level 20 enemies.

Can a rogue join either a SG or VG and can a vigilante join either a SG or VG? Hope you get what I'm asking. =P

Thanks for the guide but as a returning player, it was a bit overwhelming and a little difficult to follow. -_-'

A Rogue is still basically a Villain, and thus, can't join a Hero SG or enter a Hero Base.

A Vigilante is still basically a Hero, and thus, can't join a Villain SG or enter a Villain Base.

What these 'Tourists' *can* do on the 'other side' is:
  • do Newspaper/Radio missions (and thus get contacts for the other side, but can't actually talk to those contacts till they cross over 'all the way')
  • join any team on the other side that doesn't involve going into their base or their version of Ouroboros (no Cathedral of Pain nor Flashbacks as a Tourist)
  • start or participate in the other side's Task or Strike Forces

Snow,

first and foremost - great guide, thank you for spending so much time on this. it has been a great help.

I have a question that I couldn't find a specific answer to, though I think I can guess what it would be. but with limited play time, I don't want to spend a lot of time finding out the hard way when you can probably give me a definitive answer.

what happens in the following situations:

- starting off as a Hero and get my first tip to drop. I can choose either the hero path or vigilante path. I choose hero and complete the tip. the fame markers increase by 1 and the progression bar shows I have 1/10 of my hero morality completed

- next tip drops. it appears that I can still select to run this tip towards either a hero or vigilante. is that correct? I am not locked into either morality path based on my choice in tip 1?

- assuming I can complete tip 2 as a vigilante, I would expect the fame marker to increase to 2 and now both morality progression bars show as 1/10 complete. correct?

- assuming I continue, over the next several days, to collect tips and alternate picking hero and vigilante missions. eventually, I would reach 9/10 complete on both progression bars.

- what happens when I get and complete my next tip? whichever path I pick would now be at 10/10 while the other is at 9/10. assuming that I still have tips available, can I run one to get the other progression bar to 10/10 also? or does getting one bar to 10/10 lock things up until you complete a morality mission for the path that is at 10/10?

- either way, I run a morality mission and confirm that path, let's assume I complete a hero morality mission. I know the hero progression bar will drop back to 0/10. but would the vigilante progression bar also drop back to 0/10 or would it stay at either the 9/10 or 10/10 level it was at?

thanks again for all your time spent on this guide

Everything is correct to this point.

You can get both to 10/10. If you were a vigilante or rogue you could get 3 bars to 10/10.

All progress bars get reset after completing a morality mission. Any active fame points fade normally.

thanks for confirming that Snow. so really a waste of time to spread out your fame points. need to decide which way you want to go and focus on that progress bar. which is the way I thought it worked but wanted to make sure

Awesome guide, very helpful. The one question I am wondering is, if you go from hero to vigilante or Villain to rogue, do you keep your original powerset / Archtype?

And if you do or don't, do you reselect your powerset/Archtype when you become a full fledge villain or hero from rogue/vigilante status?

I'm assuming if you start as a Mastermind as a villian and become a full fledge hero, you have to rechoose a new Hero archtype such as controller? I'm a bit hazy on these details of the morality switches.

Thanks for any info given.

You keep your original AT. My hero is still an Illusion/Force Field magic controller after turning Villain. The alignment missions change only that: Your alignment.

The only new powers you can /respec to are Epic/Patron powers. As a hero, you first have to unlock a Patron through a mission (to get the prerequisite badge) before you get villain Patron Power Pools. Villains get their access to hero Epic Power Pools immediately because there is no badge prerequisite.

Is it possible for a hero/villian that has changed to a vigilante/rogue to get into Nova Praetoria?

Not until Issue 19. The only characters allowed in Praetoria at the moment are new level 1-20 praetorian characters.

So I have a question:

If I have a villain who is level 41 and I don't want any of the patron power pool choices but I do want an ancillary hero side pool, then I have to spend 4 days changing alignment to hero so I can then take that ancillary pool selection. Not ideal but ok, I get that part.
The question is: If I then want to go back to being a villain (and spend the 4 required days to do so) will I still have access to the ancillary power pool choices when I reach level 44 and 47 and 49? Or will I have to make the 8 day round trip again every time I want another power?

Thanks (great guide!)

There's really no such thing as a "ancillary hero side pool".

The APPs are Archetype-Specific not Side-Specific.

Your MasterMind has access to the MasterMind APPs regardless of which side he's playing on. Your Corruptor has access to the Corruptor APPs, etc. No need to side switch if it's the APPs you want.

Now the PPPs DO require that you perform the patron arc and get the badge, so if you've got a hero-side character that wants one of the PPPs, you'll have to move them red-side for at least a little while.

EDIT: And with the PPPs, once you've unlocked them by getting the badge they stay unlocked even if you switch back to blue-side.

Interesting! I hadn't played in quite awhile and didn't realize that both sides had access to all the pools (Patron Missions notwithstanding). Did they change that recently (last year or so?) or has it always been that way?

Thanks for the knowledge

APPs came with Issue 18, and it isn't -all- pools.

This entire guide is a fantastic piece of work. The detail, organization, illustrations and even the fielding of additional questions are truly exemplary. Thank you for your commitment to the game and helping other players, such as myself, understand a little more completely.

A very belated "Thank you" from me.

At one point I kept this open in the background and just copy/pasted the url whenever I saw a question about alignment switching. Explained things a lot better than anyone could in channels.

Great work, thank you.

Great info, but i am not sure if found any info understanding the mission part.

Lets assume My character is a hero and did the Morality mission and i picked to be Vig.

What would happen to the missions I have, not the tip mission, but the good old farm missions such as Battle Mainden and all. Do i get to keep those or would they carry over with me or I will lose them, or they would purge?

Thanks much in advance.
