Could not connect to DBserver ?

Getting the same problem. What drove me nuts was I was getting ready to start a new character when the error popped up. I had spent 15 minutes fiddling with the costume and such. Got the powers colored how I want them. Picked out a name and then went to enter the game. Then got the "Could not connect to DBServer". I just about screamed in frustration.
Still the same. I can get access to servers through creating a NEW character.
EXISTING characters get a DBServer error.
*scratches pitifully at server door* let me een!.... *cry*

Jirra Roo Plant/Storm/Stone/Musculature Controller
Combat Kangaroo Rifle/Energy/Mace/Spiritual Blaster

Virtue still down,and oddly my moniter screen has increased brightness along with this.Seems rather odd.Oh well, rebooting to get my screen back to normal. !!

Phew, its reassuring at least to get to the server and know its not something gone bottom up at my end.
Wouldn't it be nice though if the devs could put some kind of announcement on the server status page? So we at least get an easy to find acknowledgement that they're aware of & working on the problem?
Oh well. Think of all the fun we'll have when i18 & (then) Going Rogue come out.
L50 as a Tank, Mastermind, Soldier, Blaster, Defender & Brute so far. Still trying testing alts in search of my 'main'. So many possibilities!
Anyone in yet ....... hopeful that someone will come back and say and not just play the game solo lol

Nothing more frustrating than creating something just the way you want it than to have it go "poof" because login or similar game-side errors occur. Even saving the costume using the built-in button is not a guarantee that the details will stay as you intended.|

Extra, even excessive, work? Absolutely. But worth it in my book. Then again, I am the one with an extensive .xls file of gameplay notes because I think it's fun.

Personally, I won't be happy till everyone with a CoH/V account logs in to the forums just to say, "Yeah, me too, on xxxx server! What gives?". And then they all better come back just to say "It's fixed!".

I created a new character I'd been planning for a while anyway and soon after logging in got a big red system message stating the game would be going down for maintenance in 10 minutes and that the maintenance window is two hours but it night not take all of it.
NA Live Servers - Emergency Maintenance Thursday August 5, 2010
All North American City of Heroes servers will be taken down for a maintenance on Thursday, August 5rd, 2010 between 2:00pm and 4:00apm Central Time.
Taken from the official site.
This will mean it's down until 1 pm Pacific time. 
And 5pm Eastern time.

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.
Can't get into paragon city or rogue isles with several characters on Freedom, Guardian and Infinity.
I log in fine, go through server and character selection fine, then when I click "enter" I hear the swoosh, and nothing. I'm stuck at the character selection screen, then about a minute later I get the DB error message, and I'm dropped back to the login.
My 3 freedom characters showed 0 days since last login, so... it's getting somewhere.

Ok. I see there is a real problem. I was in a safeguard mission on Victory when I got the announcement that the servers were coming down for another maintenance.
I had hopped on after the morning maintenance with no problems, and was happily doing Radios and story arcs with absolutely no problems when I got the red notice of doom.
After being kicked off, I stomped into the forums, eyes blazing, mad as all get out because this is my last day off this week and I wanted to get to 44 at the end of the day, and I found this thread.
Now I feel selfish and sick.
I had no idea all this was happening, and most people could not log in at all.
I hope this new downtime fixes things.

So I'm wondering if this is a DB issue or if it is maint. Because normally when I try and connect during maint, I can't log in. At the moment I can get to the character screen and connect until I'm dumped out with a lost connection message. When I try to log back in, it says "account logged in".
So .. is it maint, is it a connection issue or is it that someone needs to feed the hamsters?
EDIT:
Unless the server page is broken too. Which is possible as my globals are convinced I am playing on Justice. I have chars on five servers and Justice isn't one of them.

The coding monkeys have gotten out of they're little room and into the hamster server stack. I'm sure once the smoke clears it'll be back to the normal rubberbanding lag festival we all love.

Girlfriend is logged in just fine and she's just seen a message that the servers are coming down for maintenance again, with the usual two hour window.
Hopefully it'll be more stable after that.
