Quote:You could argue that not having that has contributed to keeping this games community largely a positive place for the past seven years, compared to others.People want "challenge". "Challenge" has its' requirements. One of the requirements of "Challenge" is that the sub-optimal are excluded from the content because the optimal can't afford to carry them and still succeed at the "challenge". The greater the "challenge", the more narrow the optimal range becomes and the more the suboptimal are excluded by necessity (assuming the league wishes to succeed).

Only downside to inherent fitness - you can't slot it.

My girlfriend is having issues with her enhancement management screen since GR went live.
She is unable to reliably drag enhancements from the tray to power slots, instead it flickers slightly then drops them back in the tray - having moved about 1mm.
Persistence pays off and she can eventually slot them, but it's taking minutes for each single enhancement.
I don't have this issue at all so I'm not too sure what could be causing it. We both have ATI 48xx graphics cards with latest drivers, she's on Win7 and I'm on Vista (for my sins.)
I've searched the forum but can't find anything about a similar issue, although I could very well be missing it.
Anyone had a similar issue or know of a resolution? -
It's confusing yes, but it actually works.
Even though it will default to show you the local price based on your IP address, it will actually sell you the correct version based off the CoX account you log in with. So if you select the EU version and then login with your US account when prompted it will switch to show the price in US dollars.
It definitely works and applies correctly to the US account, we did it twice yesterday. -

Welcome home!
Thank you for the warm welcome everyone. Not that there were any doubts but we're both totally convinced coming back was the right decision! -
Quote:Yeah it was a difficult decision, I fired up a 14 day trial on the EU servers (rather than reactivate there) and it felt like a ghost town. I'd forgotten about things like global channels and had no idea what AE was, so didn't dig any deeper.Sniff, another one lost to the US servers. I suspect that is the Dev's evil master plan. make people so fed up with the Eu servers they start fresh on the Us servers so they can then cite dwindling player numbers on EU then close us down.
(TRAITOR!! :P)
It was only after purchasing a couple of US accounts that I started seeing names I recognised on the forums! Doh! -
My girlfriend and I recently returned to the game and moved from the EU servers to the US.
I understand that's a bit of a contentious issue, it certainly doesnt help the EU population, but it was the best fit for finding an overtly active server. Even so it wasnt an easy decision.
I generally play after work and, on weekends, into the early hours local time (which maps to US prime time.)
My partner however plays through the day and into the early evening, which is outside of prime time.
We were wondering if there were any SG/VGs out there on the servers active during EU afternoon/evenings?
We've both really enjoyed our time so far on the US servers as its been a great chance to meet new people.
Thanks for reading. -
So, watch prime time British TV or spend two hours watching the "badger badger badger" flash animation?
I think the choice is clear! -
Same issue as you all.
Girlfriend is logged in just fine and she's just seen a message that the servers are coming down for maintenance again, with the usual two hour window.
Hopefully it'll be more stable after that. -
I should probably preface this post by saying that I'm a returning player, recently coming back to CoX after a long break, a very long break.
I've seen a lot of doom and gloom on the forums, alongside a lot of positivity and I wanted to share with you my tale because I think it highlights how much of an effect this game has on people.
CoH was the first MMO I ever considered playing and I picked it up just after European launch back in 2005. The community was instantly welcoming, the gameplay fun and the content exciting. I think it was the spandex
During the 18 months I originally played I made some close friends, met the person who'd eventually become my partner and spent many hours chatting in Atlas Park with random people from all across Europe.
Eventually, inevitably, people started to leave and those same friends enticed me away to play "that fantasy game." Since leaving CoX I've been through several different MMOs, always trying to recapture the spark felt in Paragon. Nothing ever lived up the legacy CoH left in my mind and, worse, the online gaming community seemed to go completely downhill.
Fast forward four years and I'm now living with, and very much in love with, the person I met at the station in Talos Island back in 2005 (try explaining that to someone when asked 'so how did you two meet?')
It's taken a long time, I've travelled through many virtual worlds, but I finally realised the lesson taught to me in Paragon all those years ago. Community is everything, an MMO lives or dies by the community it generates. I found I wasn't playing 'that fantasy game' because of it's horrendous community, I couldn't find an MMO that seemed to feel right. So, coming full circle, we decided to pick up CoX again, moving to the US servers and starting over from scratch.
I have to say it was the best gaming decision we've made in a long time. The CoX community is alive and kicking, the game feels fresh (at least speaking as someone who hasn't played since 2006!) and there's an expansion on the way.
Two weeks after coming back I don't regret it at all. I've had more fun in that short time than over 18 months of the other game, almost everyone I've met has been welcoming and friendly.
That's the CoX effect in action. An MMO that still remembers it's a game, that has a devoted, friendly, community and has developers who maintain a good level of interaction with their playerbase. From my relatively fresh perspective it's the biggest draw of all.
I'll be honest, I feel completely at a loss sometimes trying to understand the huge changes to the game since 2006. I had no idea what an IO was, became confused at broadcasts for 'AE' teams and actually got lost in Steel Canyon! I'm learning slowly, feeling my way through the new content and coming to understand how the new systems work.
Most importantly though: I'm having fun doing it amongst such friendly players -
Same issue here. Strangely my girlfriend can login just fine, she's sat in the same room and sharing the same connection.

Hey all,
Just thought I'd post a quick hello, my partner and I have just returned to CoH after a break of several years (mostly spent playing a certain fantasy MMO.) We were originally on the European servers but have made the jump across the Atlantic and picked Virtue after reading some very good things about your community
This was borne out last night in game when we had a fantastic evening playing in several teams running through missions in Kings/Steel, really reigniting the spark for CoH. Through our MMO travels we've come to realise, perhaps deep down knowing it all along, that community is everything and I'm very happy to discover it's still alive and kicking here
It was difficult to walk away from our old accounts, characters and badges/veteran items, but we both feel it was absolutely the right decision. Starting over is allowing us to rediscover playing the game and letting us see the content that's arrived (a lot of it!) since we last actively played. All amongst such a vibrant community.
Thanks for being so welcoming Virtue, we hope to get to know you better over the coming months
