All the COOL kids are doing it...
Pop-ups are really unpopular with the player base and, forgetful as I am, I'd prefer the game not "babysit" me telling me things I probably already know. Possibly a one time EVER pop-up might work for the new players or make "shut off" available like the co-op zone pop-ups. But, no, I definitely don't want this pop-up every time I log into a character.

(I am a Piker in the Altitis game, but I would need all the reminding I could get, myself.

"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
Your right, I didn't do the search correctly.
A person is still publically visible. So I tried hanging out in wentworths and verfiying if a person is hidden or not hidden.
So far its hovering around 9% hidden. No its not a good number (due to small sample size) but its much better than 26 out of 30
I should try AP WW and see if the number is different.
I think you must have done something wrong, misclicked something, etc. FYI, when people are hidden, they do NOT show up for a /whoall command. There are degrees of hide, but I would think most people use hide the same way I do - I just type /hideall to make it fast and simple. If you use /hideall, you will not show up on /whoall.

I tend to form PuGs more than I join them, and as a team leader I always look for people set to Looking For Any and Looking For Team.
The problem is just that there's about five, maybe ten people set to that in the entire range of 1-50 when there's fifty readily available in my level range set to Not Looking, and it's not even because they aren't looking but just because some of them forgot or don't even know about search tags.
Not Looking can mean Not Looking. It can also mean Currently Looking, it can mean Might Join If I Get A Tell, or Don't Even Ask Me Shut Up. Not Looking is the default setting and most people don't care to change it, so in the end it stopped being Not Looking a long time ago.
As a result, maybe one or two members of my teams tend to be picked from the Looking For Any/Team crowd, but the rest tend to be picked from the Not Looking list.

Was hoping to inspire heroes to start pushing habitual use of the Search Flags (LFT/LFAny/LFTFs/etc.).
Just talk it up or mention it in passing to new/returning players, like it's a standard thing to set your Flag every time you log in (again, when appropriate). |
They don't. Maybe you do, and that's great. But 99.9999999% of PuG-builders out there don't, judging from what I have seen. In fact I remember one extremely amusing incident back when I was new to the game: I had had the LFT flag up for a long time, at the end of my session I was logging out after having taken the flag down. During the middle of the logoff countdown, I get a tell. Went something like this:
idiot: Join my team plz. [Team invite popup appears]
me: Thanks, but I'm logging off now. Ty for invite though. [clicks off of popup]
idiot: But you were LFT, I saw it. [re-invite]
me: Yes I was. But I'm logging off now, thanks anyways!
idiot: But I SAW that you were LFT, join my team!
me: cya, thanks anyways. [initiate logoff countdown]
idiot: You were LFT, you have to join my team. Join it.
[still logging]
JOIN MY TEAM NAO! [countdown continues....]
This went on until I actually exited the game.
And yes, many team builder/leaders REALLY DO hit up appropriately-flagged players FIRST!
|
I still hit them up first, but sometimes I wonder why.
I haven't seen the Pocket D pop up in so long, I forgot it even existed. Doesn't it have a check box in the bottom that stops it from showing up again? And a setting in Options "Hide Cooperative zone dialog" or something like that? If you set that appropriately, and save your options to default, it'll load for each new character, and never show up again.

I'm not positive, but I think it shuts something off in RWZ as well. **strains brain** I think there's one warning you about leaving the zone when teamed with the other side.
Dec out.
And, in my case, this leads to approximately the same number of nonresponsive {one in three, on a good day}, not-actually-looking and genuinely interested players as I usually get from asking non-flagged players.

Yes Quinch I have to admit, the flip-side of this request is that those who DO take the time/trouble to set their Flag actually ACT as if they really ARE LFT (by responding to my polite Invite within, oh...I dunno...10 minutes of me sending it?).
I'm reluctant to criticize anyone who's actually bothering to use the Flags at all, but there's nothing more frustrating than getting all excited when you see 3 needed, level-appropriate ATs all Flagged as LFT at the top of the list, and NOT getting a response from ANY OF THEM after an Invite Tell (happened this weekend!).
*shakes head sadly* Really, then, it's just about the whole LF-Search-team formation thing needing a minor overhaul. I think it's pretty powerful and pretty useful as-is, but some tweaking and polishing would really make it shine.

As for flags, i don't really pay much attention to them, unless i'm trying to form a team. As mentioned, those that are flagged as LF anything are first on the pecking order. It just grinds me on the occasions that i have asked if they would like a team, i occasionally get responses which are basically 'No'. This is usually when i'm trying to form a TF. If they didn't want a TF, there are flags for that as well. So i'd be in favour of raising awareness of flags, though, i usually use some sort of channel when gathering people for a team.
I was doing some playthroughs of City of Heroes. Now they will serve as memories of a better time ...
I suppose the reason I never checked the box was because I am not certain exactly what constitutes "Cooperative Zone Dialogue." Dialogue is a two-way discussion, so I am wondering if Inigo is going to say that he does not think that word means what they think it means.

I leave mine on the default "not looking" unless I really don't want anyone bothering me, then it's the red "refuse invites". I do the vast majority of my teaming with my SG or Victory badges, so it matters little to me, but I still get invites with the "not looking". Most team leaders seem to be aware that the default setting means absolutely nothing. I'd be more inclined to tell newbs about global channels than setting their search flag.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
Was hoping to inspire heroes to start pushing habitual use of the Search Flags (LFT/LFAny/LFTFs/etc.).
As a regular PuG builder/leader, I've noticed a remarkable decline in the number of people taking time (2 seconds?) to set these (when appropriate). And yes, many team builder/leaders REALLY DO hit up appropriately-flagged players FIRST! |
I think some of the problem is that "pugging" in general is often a less than pleasureable experience.
Sure I get good teams but I get more bad teams. On TFs bad teams are rare. Mainly because TFs are being run by "Veteran players" with 50s who want merits so diff is set to +0. Most of the TFs are against some of the weakest mobs around. (Positron TF at level 15 being one of the hardest due to Ruin Mages and Vahz zombies) I've even seen people who run Positron lower so that Madness Mages spawn because they are so much easier.
So why join a pug when I can join a TF and get a guaranteed 10 missions and lots of merits and team with good players?
I should run some personal statistics on pugs. How long does it take to get a tell or invite with lft flag on. Then quality of the team, basically, was it a good team, an acceptable team or a bad team.
Some of the numbers might be embarassing. My Dominator on Freedom has not had a tell or invite for 10 hours and the stalker is pushing 18 hours.
Then I should try not setting LFT but send out lft broadcasts and see. If I was a gambling man, I would wager broadcasts get teams faster.
I think there is another reason for a hiding. Even I hid back in the days of "soft PL begging". Where you had someone who was 3-5 levels below you wanting to join your team. Then, they refused to sk or if they did sk, it was to the lowest level person possible. Then there were the anchor sk tells. So the moment you ding 41 you got tons of tells asking you to anchor. Then it became level 46. Then before the changes to difficulty slider for numbers, I would only get "filler" tells but no teaming tells.

hm those flags are really handy when searching for people looking for a team. I must say I rarely change them myself as the amount of times getting an invite when it's default mode and green or another color is nill. Yet at the same time I dont car about blind invites tells or what ever other means of team invites. If I'm busy and the middle of something I politely decline. If I'm avail and ready for teaming, I'll join. I overall rarely actively search out a team or form one and mostly solo unless something better just so happen to float my way but that is me and that's all I can speak for. Sometimes I wish it could stay the flag that you last logged out on until changed personally.

I constantly set my LFT flag, maybe it's a hang over from the EU servers but I've always used it.
I'd love an overhaul to the current system though, with Team Leaders able to mark themselves as "Leaders looking for teammates", it'd make my PUGing even easier.

Probably just coincidence, but I saw a relative *ton* of LFT/LFA-flagged players when I logged on last night.
Filled a team almost entirely with various LFT-flagged ATs.
Not saying this thread had anything at all to do with it, just sayin'...it really is a relief when you click Search and see a whole slew of Flags right there at the top of the list.

Made me think - Wouldn't it be awesome if a team Leader could set an Open Invite if LFM, maybe even select a Preferred AT, and people LFT could look at a Search list, choose the team they want to join based on level, zone, mish type, etc. and then just.....join up! And they'd pop into the team until it was full!
I'm one of those returning players. On grouping characters, I have all my search comments set to "Primary/Secondary LFG" and I'm set appropriately.
