So. Wave 2 of CB has still not started.
Or, if you are exposed to a non-Director's cut, don't read anything and turn the sound all the way down until you see the bathtub. Really, I'm not joking.

Frankly, a lot that was added to the Director's Cut was interesting, but I didn't feel it made the movie better in any way. Actually, I think it was more of a distraction and I could see why it was cut. But it's still better than the opening monologue.
We often sit and think of you,
We often speak your name;
There is nothing left to answer,
But your photo in the frame.

DumpleBerry gives good recommend: Dark City. Older and overlooked movie. Get the Director's Cut, don't read anything else about it (not the back of the case, nothing) and watch it. |
So bad he was good!
Dec out.
This needs to be emphasized. "Dark City" is quite possibly my favorite movie. It is near perfect in my eyes, save for that wretched opening narrative that takes away the mystery. What a horrible decision that was.

The addition that I liked was they showed the events to Detective Bumstead's revelation as to what's really going on. In the theatrical release he makes a pretty big leap in logic, though he doesn't quite grasp all of it yet. In the director's cut, we see a few scenes that were left on the cutting room floor, and it allows you to follow Bumstead's progression.
Great movie. And visually one of the more interesting films anyone will ever see.
Arc# 92382 -- "The S.P.I.D.E.R. and the Tyrant" -- Ninjas! Robots! Praetorians! It's totally epic! Play it now!
Arc # 316340 -- "Husk" -- Azuria loses something, a young woman harbors a dark secret, and the fate of the world is in your hands.
Plus, y'know, Jennifer Connelly before she got all haggard.
Dec out.

This thread's shift to a discussion of Dark City is nothing but good.
I shall now have to hunt down the Director's Cut. I've only ever seen the "tell-the-audiance-everything-right-at-the-start" version, but it was still rather fabulous! Reminded me of a similarly gritty and noir'ish film released around the same time, but without the techno-bumping silliness.
Another one of these?
STOP Q_Q'ing about how you haven't been invited to CB!!!
Anyways, unless you want to get into CB for actual testing and instead of trying to check out some 'cool' new feature like 97% of these other knuckledheads trying to get in, YOU SHOULDN'T....erm....WON'T BE INVITED.
It's true, and damn does it burn.

Funny to see people posting more about why people can't get in than the people complaining why they haven't been invited, very amusing stuff if you as me.
Then they are the people trying to use the Jedi mind trick by thread-jacking this into a discussion about Dark City.

We can read your posts.
We know your history here.
I'm going to be blunt here. If I was in the closed beta and I saw you login, I'd hit the /petition immediately, then go find something else to play until well after the game releases. Whether or not you like it, and from all aspects either you do not like it or do not realize it, you have a reputation as a troll. You have a reputation as a player that does not understand the base mechanics of the game. You have stepped on the toes, repeatedly, of many of the better players.
We've tried to correct you in the past. We've tried to engage you on a "meaningful" level. From all past attempts, we have failed.
Again, being blunt, I harbor no doubts that the only reason you want to be in the beta is to oooh and aaah over the shiny new features. I harbor no doubts that you are not interested in providing feedback on any new mechanics to the developers. I harbor no doubts that you are not interested in providing feedback to Intel, Nvidia, or AMD/ATi. I harbor no doubts that you are not interested in testing Cider / Cedega compatibility. I, as a player with a personal opinion, harbor no doubts that the only thing you could bring to a beta environment is a complete and total ability to torque off all of the other players.
Beyond that, the developers have done everything but say: If you ask to be in the beta, you will not be in the beta.
Now, if you have a legit reason for asking to be in the beta, that does somewhat change. Lets say you work for a third party that is semi-involved with the game, such as AMD, Intel, Nvidia, Transgaming, or Khronos; feel free to PM a mod asking if it would be possible to gain access to the closed beta.

Spellcheck FTL!!
and yes, the testers, cause only the small few that do post can't fully be heard cause if you only have 50-70 active forumers reporting things and making the suggestions, while 300-1000 people did nothing or actively participated in the testing, then the devs or whoever views the results sees those that complained or made suggestions as the small faction, so many of the things that could have been prevented get placed out cause there were not enough voices heard. and seeing there is not one, but 4 ways to get in, and only 2 months left till release, those that get in round the last month will not be heard well enough to make a difference cause the past majority of the testers did not provide their input to make changes in the games developments, or by letting bugs or insane game balances go unchecked and then passed as "ok" to put in simply, we need more "active" beta testers, people that will log onto the forums and create a greater voice, to me in my opinion, would help polish the game even more and give a deeper idea of what the player wants, cause sadly, they only see a small handful, and even that small part have a smaller faction that are seen as complainers or trolls. |

TCS. We don't have to assume.

....and that my little children, is why the chicken, crossed the road.
Seeing as you seem to be 'in the know', how many players are there currently beta testing?
This is incorrect and an assumption on your part. Those "4 ways to get in" were incentives and are guaranteed to get you into GR Closed Beta**, if past Closed Betas are any indicator, they are not the only players to get included though. In past CB's that I have been in, I have come across players that had been playing for less than six months. The 'Tiers' would likely be in addition to testers that are invited through whatever metric the Devs/Paragon Studios use. It's a statement they said During HeroCon '08 when they said attendees would get CB access to I13, and likely applies here as well. ** Standard "account in good standing" statement applies. |
WUT?
Who said I was whipping out logic and true facts in this game, I just randomly picked out numbers...
Read hard much?
Why people think I know more than I type is beyond me, I just make things up as I go along..
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
Behave, people
If they've given an offical launch date now, that must mean that they're happy with the way the closed beta is going, and will have worked out when the open beta will start, along with anymore invite waves before then.

I liked this thread when was about people complaining about the people complaining to get in the CB, and then to Dark City, then more complaining about people complaining about not getting into the CB.
Butt-Kissing people in this thread just made this a huge turn-off...

Have they said what'll happen if you blab about meeting the requirements for one of the waves of beta invites and say you're looking forward to said invite? I ask only for information.

Hi there: Last year I heard that there were going to be various waves of beta's for players who met certain qualifications. Does anybody know if this Wave invite system is active?and what most of these threads are:
Hey! I met a qualification for one of the previously announced Beta Invites! Why haven't I been invited yet!?
Yeah, 'cause it's always the testers' fault when bugs go live. /em rolleyes
