So when do you consider your toon "complete" or "done"?

Now I realize that you can never "beat" an MMO, but what are some things that would make you say "I did everything there is to do with this character"? I realize that "everything" is a bit ambiguous, and of course it is nearly impossible to do EVERYTHING in this game, but what are some major accomplishments that you feel make a toon "complete"? I made a short list but I'd love to hear suggestions/opinions: (of course this assumes level 50)

Basics/character customization:
-Fill in your character bio. Adjust chat bubble colors, title, taunt/talk/battle emotes etc. Just for fun of course but if your character is thematic it makes it much more fun IMO
-Do the cape and aura missions
-Have at least 3 costume slots filled out as the "final" costume for that slot

Accomplishments:
-Achieve your final build*
-Complete all TFs and Trials (yes this includes Transcendence and all Shard stuff)
-Get all Accolades badges**
-Set a # Badge goal (e.g. 300 badges, etc)

*I realize this is a very nebulous region depending on "how uber IO'ed you wanna be". Maybe set a monetary limit to say "this is my final build", 50-100mil influence maybe? It varies of course, but you can probably always be a LIIIITTTLE more uber, so where does it stop. You get my point.

**Depending on your version, you may not have Pocket D VIP badge, etc.

It's a short list, yes, but you see tons of content, all the AVs (I think), etc.

What do you think?

Well done.
I have a 50 in every AT, but Scrappers and Dominators are my favorites.

... ok, a little general there, but for most, that's right. For some - given I'm working on "get one of everything to 50," hitting 50 meant they were instantly shelved (namely the Bane and Widow) and "done." Others get played much more.

And then the game changes, and something makes me want to rework something, so they get more time in again.

Some of my characters I am just getting to 50 and once there I am done with them. I have quite a few in this camp already.

However I am done building my warshade but I am not done with him. I never will be.

I"ve been a player on and off for just over four years now, and I still haven't finished a character.

I had a break after a year or so, and when I came back I was a very changed person. I thought the costumes I had on my characters were ugly, my characters' names were awful, and I'd made some power choices that I didn't fully understand. At that point, it felt like those characters were all 'done'. I'd had enough of them. So I just wiped the slate clean entirely.

However, the characters were not dead. After a couple of months in my new regime of things, I developed a character concept that needed a body, and one of my old characters was reborn with a new face, a new name, and some new threads. This started this little project of mine where I gave old characters a breath of new life, and I now consider them up there with my other characters.

The only other character I can think of that I considered 'done' was one whose mission was to get to fifty with a character of a friend. Once we reached fifty, all of the life came out of the character, and I haven't logged her in since (that was so hard to word cleanly). However, even she is being reborn as a solo character of my own creation.

Tl;dr version: None of my characters ever 'finish'. They only wilt and die away, before being reborn anew.

Level 50 with approximately 140 badges is good for me. On future toons, I may pursue the Task Force Commander Badge and the exploration badges. I don't worry about Set IOs.

Not finished with any of my chars yet. Doing badgehunting, made the final build, still pondering on costumes, doing roleplay...

Some characters have grown more on me then others. F.ex I'm very tempted to park and say I'm done with my mastermind robotic/shield. Cause it just did not suit me (but i wanted a lvl 50 villain for the future when veat came out). Only problem is that that character is also my oldest villain and... thus badger. ;P

For me they are finished when I stop paying the sub or cox's life is over. Now that could take quite some time...

For ending to play a character and deletion = A new char with few anniversary badges and most important... not finding it fun playing the char. So while I still have fun.. they will be played.

Aggelakis is "done" but that's because she's fully slotted with HOs from before IOs, and I'm way too lazy to redo her build. I still play her, though.

I almost never get my characters to 50, so basically none of them are ever done.

After getting all 8 accolade powers (the passive 4, and the main click 4) in addition to finishing a rough IO build. Which i may or may not tweak, depending on how well the mids builds translates into actual game play.

I plan on doing that to all my toons, and once I'm done, it'll be incarnates time

I might never accomplish this on any toon.

  • 50
  • Two builds. One for damage, one for service.
  • Five costumes I like.
  • All unlockable weapons.
  • All unlockable costume pieces.
  • Has run all TFs.
  • Has whatever the leading-the-team badge is beyond Paragon.
  • Accolades, badges, whatever.
  • I didn't start hating them and delete them in their 20s.

I generally consider my character "done" when I get what I feel to be the signature power for that character -- or more properly the next level when I can at least get some slots in it. For most characters that is the Tier 9 power at 32, but a couple of characters the defining power for me was 26 or 28. Rarely do I consider a character done as low as 20, so for those character where the ones gained at that level are the main power, I'll wait until I get a good one that complements the character concept.

In some cases a power in the Secondary or Epic will be one I'm really waiting on. My Ninjitsu Stalker (a variation on my MA/SR Scrapper) was not complete until he got Blinding Powder at 35. My female robot "tank" who is a Claws/Inv Scrapper finally got to 38 and Unstoppable, recently. (Just to show how important Unstoppable is to the concept, she has a special costume for when Unstoppable is about to crash which shows her battle damaged and "sparking") And my main Tanker, Blue Diamond, will not be done until I can get him Energy Torrent.

In general, my major milestones are:

22 - first gain access to SO's

26 - Tier 8 Primary

28 - Tier 7 Secondary

30 - Aura

Somewhere past 32 - complete

My bio is usually done within minutes of creating the character, as I have never started a character without already having a concept. I don't really consider the cape a major milestone, but the aura definately is if I have one in mind. For the most part, the levels from 40-50 are "finalizing" the character, and in fact I have only 2 50s, although I have quite a few I consider "complete".

I'm also not really a badge hound, but I do have one character that I gained badges for, and he's not anywhere near finished.

Never. I've used every respec available on my main and I'm still not happy with his build. He will never be done. The devs make changes to often for that to ever be a possibility.

Be well, people of CoH.

On my main? When I have my costumes/bio in order, have all possible badges, have done all possible missions, and have a build I am satisfied with that has reached its maximum potential of what I wish it to do.

On secondary characters? When I have the bio, powers, and costumes adequately adapted to convey the story/concept of that character, and they are not lacking in their functionality to solo/assist a team.

Pretty much never. If I am ever "done" with a character I'll usually delete it. keeping it alive assumes I mean to play it again at some point.

This pretty much in my case and thus far only one toon comes close to meeting those requirements (my main, an SS/WP Brute). Only thing he's missing are an assortment of badges (Ouro, healing, couple of mez and some defeats). I could care less about the Day Job badges when it comes to counting him as complete, but he does have most of them as well by this point.

But wouldn't running Dr. Q be a bit redundant?

My characters are done when I delete them. As long as they're fun to play, they're not finished yet, even if I've finished their build, got their accolades, etc. You never know when something will happen that makes you want to change the character, like adjustments to powersets, new IOs, or the Incarnate System.

I've concluded that I'm never really done with my characters. Sometimes I set particular ones aside for a while, but I have almost always come back to them. Some characters who have been fallow a long time I actually intend to play or modify builds for at some point, but I just get busy doing other things or continuing to fiddle with whatever I'm playing currently.

I don't have anything like a character with an old build I'm too lazy to change. Some have old builds I haven't gotten around to changing, but all my active characters get periodic updates, based on new toys or new nerfs. Some of my characters who have had the same build a while are there because I can't decide what to do with them ... but I actually spend time fiddling with the plans.

Needless to say, I don't have as many alts as some folks, and frankly, my lowbie alts tend to languish for a while. Then I get a bug to play them and usually solo them to 50 over a few weeks, and they join the ranks of my other never-quite-done characters.

Massive aside here: Is there a better way to run this? Everyone with rec friend and one person commutes to the next location while the other's fight? I'll do it for the customized weapon, but only for the customized weapon. Worst TF evar.
